Federal Appeals Court Rules that Pennsylania Must Verify Signatures for Mail-In Voting

There is no reason to oppose this minor, barely-adequate measure, except to increase voter fraujd.

The U.S. 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled in favor of signature verification for mail-in voting in Pennsylvania, overturning a previous federal district court ruling. The decision, hailed as a "crucial victory for election integrity" by the Republican National Committee (RNC), was made by a 2-1 majority of Democrat-appointed judges.

The ruling comes after the RNC, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), and the Pennsylvania Republican Party (PAGOP) secured a victory on this issue in front of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in November 2022. However, a federal district court struck down the dated signature requirement in November 2023, leading to the RNC's appeal and the recent 3rd Circuit Court ruling.

"The Pennsylvania General Assembly has decided that mail-in voters must date the declaration on the return envelope of their ballot to make their vote effective," the ruling stated. "The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania unanimously held this ballot-casting rule is mandatory; thus, failure to comply renders a ballot invalid under Pennsylvania law."

Less voter fraud in a swing state is bad for Biden. A Fox News poll finds more bad news for Biden: 38% of voters cannot name a single thing he's accomplished.

Only 22% of voters feel better off now than four years ago, while 52% feel worse off.

The economy receives a negative rating from 73% of respondents, showing slight improvement from last year.

Biden's approval ratings remain low, with 41% approving his overall job performance and 38% approving his handling of the economy.

As usual, the liberal leaning poll conducted and analyzed by a Hillary Clinton donor is better for Biden than most polls.

In a telling assessment of President Joe Biden's tenure, a recent Fox News national survey paints a bleak picture of public sentiment. The poll reveals that only about one in five voters, or 22%, believe they are better off now than they were four years ago. This contrasts sharply with the 52% who feel they are worse off, underscoring widespread economic dissatisfaction.

This sentiment crosses party lines to an extent, with a significant majority of Republicans (72%) and independents (59%) expressing that they are worse off. Even among Democrats, a significant portion either feel the same or worse than four years ago. The economy remains a critical concern, with 73% of respondents rating it negatively, albeit a slight improvement from 83% last May. The negative economic perception is more pronounced among Republicans and independents compared to Democrats.

In terms of the president's accomplishments, the survey brings to light a notable perception gap. When asked to name the administration's achievements without prompts, 38% of voters couldn't think of any or responded negatively. Comparatively, during the Trump administration, 27% had a similar response. The top accomplishments attributed to Biden include handling the economy/jobs (19%), student loan forgiveness (6%), and infrastructure (6%). However, a large segment of voters see his top achievement as "not being Trump" or are unable to name any substantive accomplishments.

Biden's staff and nurses have again had to call Biden a deluded old fool and "clarify" his comments. Once again,
President Puddingcup departs from the script written for him by his Cognitive Care Team and just makes shit up because he thinks it sounds good.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has "clarified" [my sneer quotes] President Biden's remarks regarding the funding for the reconstruction of the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, suggesting that insurance payments and the bipartisan infrastructure law could cover the costs, rather than U.S. taxpayers. This comes after Biden's statement that the federal government would bear the entire cost of the bridge's reconstruction.

...

Secretary Yellen's comments on MSNBC appear to walk back President Biden's earlier statement that the federal government would foot the entire bill for the bridge's reconstruction. "My expectation would be that ultimately there will be insurance payments, in part, to cover this. But we don't want to allow worrying about where the financing will come from to hold up reconstruction," Yellen said.

Biden's boast that he'll spend a few more trillion dollars is probably sadly accurate.

But he wasn't supposed to boast that Big Daddy Government will pay for every single expense incurred by a blue state.

Meanwhile, Trump attended a funeral for the latest slain NYPD officer -- this one murdered at a routine stop -- while President Droolcupattends $25 million fundraiser hosted by Stephen Colbert.

President Biden is in New York City for a $25 million fundraiser with former Presidents Obama and Clinton, while former President Trump attends the wake of slain NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller. The stark contrast in engagements highlights the political divide as Biden builds a substantial financial lead over Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee.

President Biden, accompanied by former President Obama, arrived in New York City for a star-studded fundraiser expected to raise a record-breaking $25 million. The event, hosted by CBS "Late Show" host Stephen Colbert, will feature a discussion with the three Democratic presidents and performances by Queen Latifah, Lizzo, Ben Platt, Cynthia Erivo, and Lea Michele. The Biden campaign has hailed the event as "the most successful political fundraiser in American history".

Meanwhile, former President Trump is attending the wake of NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller, who was tragically killed on Monday. Trump's presence at the wake, about half an hour away from where Biden's fundraiser is taking place, creates a stark contrast in engagements. Trump has sought to flip the script on the fundraiser, stating in an emailed fundraising appeal: "Remember, my campaign isn't powered by the Hollywood 'elite' writing 6-figure checks -- IT'S POWERED BY YOU!"

Oh, I'll bet that PA complies. Technically.

Signature verification is likely an automated system. Scan the signature, compare it to the signature on file. If it matches pretty well (likely 80% confidence or better, if I had to guess), the signature is verified. It happens automatically.

So just turn the crank down to 0.1% confidence, and every signature "matches" every other - and the ruling is satisfied. The SoS declares that 0.1% confidence is reasonable verification - and statistically, no signature can fail to match.

We have to force these blue and purple states to at least have some kind of protections for voter authenticity.

81 This is interesting:
The ruling comes after the RNC, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), and the Pennsylvania Republican Party (PAGOP) secured a victory on this issue in front of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in November 2022. However, a federal district court struck down the dated signature requirement in November 2023, leading to the RNC's appeal and the recent 3rd Circuit Court ruling.

Is it possible this is a case that has dragged since 2020?

Yeah, but ranked choice voting and excuse-free/100% mail in balloting are not illegal. But, a Congressional act could eliminate their use.
Posted by: Nova Local at March 28, 2024 04:42 PM (exHjb)

You'd need something higher than even a Congressional act. RCV is allowed in places like AK and ME that have decided that having a parliament is the way to go. Mail-in ballots are just inviting fraud. AND, it would make it unambiguous.

We need to segregate prisons by crime committed and make it a military regiment instead of a loose free for all.

If you do that you can actually lower prison sentences IMO.

In many states, they can't be legally counted without signature verification. So, if you're not verifying their signatures, you oughtn't be including them in the vote counts. Adding to the vote counts is the definition of fraud.

My vote means that my share of decision-making is 1 / P. Not 1 / ( P + f ).

You are not delivering what I'm actually entitled to if you can't do more than 1 / ( P + f ). Now, some f is probably inevitable, but the lack of following through guarantess a larger f.

Right?!"

THAT is what the famous(illegally taped) phone call from Trump was about...his team was explaining that BY LAW a "finding" that 11,800 votes were "questionable/unverifiable" triggered the status of a "Failed election" and there was already a statewide runoff scheduled that could be used to replace it. OR, a failed presidential election could be sent to the Statehouse where electors would be chosen by the Legislature.(and they had a raft of alternate electors already in place...as the LAW required)
