-who MIGHT weigh 100 pounds, -wearing flip flops and inadequate clothing, -holding a rifle or shotgun that is taller than she is and a rear stock about 6 inches too long for a shoulder hold, -in a caliber that would shoot through an elephant lengthwise and kill the zebra behind it. Mercury amalgamates with many metals. If you play with liquid mercury then don't wear gold or silver jewelry as it will be ruined. An amalgam is a solution of the metal in mercury. Often solid, useful as dental fillings (now replaced by resins, etc.?). Heating the amalgam makes the mercury distill and leaves behind the other metal, but the worse for wear - it won't look like that wedding band that you didn't remove.
Other metals? Lead, copper, tin, platinum but not iron. Sodium amalgam is great for super-drying solvents in the lab. Sodium makes a nice flash when dropped into liquid mercury. Posted by: Ciampino - fun with chemicals at March 27, 2024 08:10 PM (qfLjt) 87

Did @jonstewart commit fraud when he sold his penthouse for $17.5M? NY listed its market value at $1.8M an AV at around 800k Who did he He defraud?? I am SHOCKED SHOCKED === On Monday’s show, Jon Stewart accused Trump of “lying” about the valuation of some of his properties, claiming Trump’s “shenanigans cost the city of New York.” But documents obtained by the New York Post appear to show that Stewart once overvalued his own New York home by more than $16 million. In 2014, the comedian reportedly sold his 6,280-square-foot Tribeca duplex to financier Parag Pande for $17.5 million. But, according to 2013-2014 assessor records obtained by The Post, the property had the estimated market value of only $1.882 million. The actual assessor valuation for property tax purposes was $847,174. Records also show that Stewart paid property taxes based on that assessor valuation price — in other words, what he accused Trump of doing. The report has inspired online mockery of Stewart. This explains the mercury+ alumni
https://tinyurl.com/3u2v537c Posted by: vmom stabby stabby stabby stabby stabamillion at March 27, 2024 08:05 PM (TirNb) Fractured Indo-English! Look. It's really simple. Aluminum would all spontaneously react with oxygen in the air to form that white, fluffy oxide, were it not for the fact that it is always coated with a thin film of hard, transparent oxide that protects it. Mercury will form an alloy with aluminum, called amalgam, that erases that hard layer of protective oxide, and the aluminum simply slowly burns up. Left unchecked, it would eventually eat a hole right through that plate. I found a mess of spilled mercury once on a set of concrete stairs outdoors at my high school. Swept it all up, brought the mercury-laden dirt home, and panned it clean (like panning for gold!) in an old aluminum pan. The next day, that pan was covered in white whiskers, and riddled with tiny holes. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at March 27, 2024 09:29 PM (tkR6S) 187

MadisonTheCat has a favorite word. Grass. She loves grass. Never been outside and thinks grass is the best thing ever. The first time Mineola the kitten saw Madison eating grass from our hand, she had to have some too. Because. Now she loves grass. When we say 'Who wants grass?' they come galloping.

Posted by: Eromero at March 27, 2024 09:32 PM (NxC5+) They used to use it in science class to coat pennies. It was also used to gild copper by dissolving gold in it and then letting it plate the copper mechanically. That sort of gilding was used by navies because it was more enduring than electro-plating, and it was more traditional. IIRC that was the method the Roman Empire used to coat bronze denarii, too. Posted by: davidt at March 27, 2024 10:40 PM (SYTee) Yep, from the first report I saw. If it was an attack we better hope it was electronic, because otherwise there are sleeper agents on an ungodly number of ships in and out of US Ports.
