This is Roxy and Sox a bonded pair but not siblings. They've been together for 10 years. Hoping to adopt them out as a pair. They look like siblings, and great dogs. Several years ago you helped heal my loss of Beavis, who had to me put down at a very young age due to degenerative spinal issues. An amazing PetMoron family! Full of different personalities. Congratulations on the New Wife and new pets. Nice to see the horses, too! Hello, KT, Attached are two recent pics of Stirling, once known as the Evil Black Kitten of War and Pestilence, emerging from his carrier at his most recent vet visit (and looking like "Somebody's gonna PAY for this!"). Which was not how he reacted at all; he was adaptable and easygoing even with the vet and her technician. The second shot is of him relaxing on my couch, in fact in my seat on the couch, at home. The other two are of Dagny Sophia, La Siberienne (aka The Forest Feral), on her second birthday, March 26. This kitten has really filled out and become more impressive in the year and half since I adopted her! It's hard to get a good shot of her, Miss Linda says, because if you say her name to get her to look at you, she often gets up and comes over within petting range. Thus spoiling the shot. She may grow and fill out a bit more; conventional wisdom says Siberians don't reach their full growth until they are five. Keep up the great work with the Pet Thread! Wolfus AureliusWhat great cats! Our beloved outdoor cat Oreo has crossed the rainbow bridge. An inflamed severe bladder obstruction that was too painful and dangerous for him and too costly for us to fix. A work colleague rescued him in 2013 when she heard a little meow from behind a plant. She picked him and brought him to work. I told her my next door neighbor had recently lost her beloved cat Beebers and that he was perfect for her. Unfortunately, Oreo turned out to be a little too rambunctious for the indoors. He was quickly named "El Diablo" by her. He was neutered and then led him out into my neighbors yard. He lived there and with us in our yard. With the exception of two excursions away from us where he returned with big wounds turned into abscesses from obvious fights, he never left our yards. She fed him outside everyday and every evening, and I gave him treats every day. He was a very loyal cat. We had 11 great years with him! We miss you buddy! George, Terry, and KarenSo sorry that you have lost sweet Oreo. He looks like a great cat. Thank you for sharing your pets with us. So, Red legged seriema story... in my youth I worked at Walt Disney world, I was on the opening crew of the Animal Kingdom.
In dinoland they had a seriama and decided they'd set up a hot dog cart just outside the enclosure. Well the big deal with the animal kingdom at the time was the enclosures were designed to not look like cages... supposed to use natural looking barriers, yadda yadda... well, not all of them worked. And red legged seriemas are meat eaters. I saw the old girl snatch a hotdog right away from a guest, and slam it down on a rock before eating it. I still laugh about that... and the colobus monkeys ransacking a restaurant kitchen... Afternoon, folk,
I'm pleased Stirling and Dagny made the Thread! Most of you were in the audience, so to speak, when I adopted each of them and during their Crazy Kitten phases, so I thought it might be nice for you to see how they are coming along. Both were sleeping with me just now. Stirling I usually find on the bed every morning when I wake up. Dagny not so much . . . but this afternoon as I lay down with the black one, I called Dagny, expecting nothing, and was astonished when she trotted in, leaped up, and settled against me. Darnedest thing how they can surprise you. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at March 30, 2024 03:56 PM (omVj0) 17

It's been another week of life with Mr Trouble. I've had a lot of cats but he is so different. He knows the weather of course, so he comes in when it gets stormy. And like most cats, he is not happy when he wants out and there is snow on the ground. So he grumbles. The odd part is that he goes back and eats, maybe gets some pets and will try again. Sometimes he'll try the front door in case the weather is better there. No change, so back to eat. He usually does this three times. Then, he asks to go out and exits, grumbling the whole time. If it's cold, he might come back inside in a couple of hours.
With nicer weather, he comes in about 4:30 and sleeps till I get up at 7. The other morning, it really warmed up and was 50 when he went out. He was so shocked he didn't even look back. He is entertaining if nothing else. Posted by: Notsothoreau at March 30, 2024 03:56 PM (yeEu9) 20

Posted by: From about That Time at March 30, 2024 *** There is probably some instinct left over from their wild ancestor, the Libyan wildcat, that tells them, "Drink while you can. This puddle will be gone in an hour." Ditto for running streams. My two, the previous pair, and others of my cats have always loved drinking from the tap when they could. These two now make a point of leaping up onto the bathroom counter by the sink when I first get up, waiting for me to turn it on, and Stirling chirps and paws lightly at my shoulder to remind me. They have their own pet fountain in the kitchen, and they use it; but they love the tap stream just as much. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at March 30, 2024 04:04 PM (omVj0) 29

Yayy pet thread. All the glorious critters!
Daisy the exuberant Malinois seems smarter all the time. Been trying to get her to not go out in the pasture and "herd" the cattle. Hard instincts to fight. A few days ago, she went out, no leash, no training collar. Stood on the front porch a minute, surveying the yard, then bolted toward the pasture. Oh no, I thought. But, she ran up to the wall that separates the pasture from the living area and began running back and forth, barking, but stayed on the right side of the wall! She'd jump up and look over and bark, run a ways, repeat. Some of the cattle played along, going back and forth with her. She soon ran back to me. That I deemed to be a very good doggie. Wandering Neurons, you have quite the remuda of cats as well as of horses there.
I've always thought the buckskin (?) in the foreground was one of the handsomest color combos for horses. Palominos are beautiful, but kind of theatrical; you expect to see them in a parade or in a Wild West show. A buckskin, with pale hide and black mane and tail, is dramatic too and handsome, but more of a working horse. This idea of mine may come from early TV Westerns. I think Paladin rode one, and I believe Dale Evans's horse, Buttermilk, was a buckskin. Posted by: Pete the Cat in Heinlein's Door into Summer at March 30, 2024 04:14 PM (omVj0) 38

Wolfus,
My very first kitty was pure white, save a little grey teardrop on her forehead. I had her for 4 years or so when she suddenly disappeared during a rather violent thunderstorm. Never saw her again. I took (Publius') Mama p to the house this week. She hadn't been there since Feb 20, when she fell and hit her head. I promised her that she could visit anytime. There's plenty for me to do, what with getting clothes together for Goodwill, while she naps in her rocker.
I suggested that she play the piano for a bit, and she wondered if she could remember how. She did, of course, but didn't get to play for long. Jake, who demanded to be let in because HE hadn't been there since Feb 20 either, had planted himself on the couch in the living room. He will not tolerate computer video or piano playing. He jumped onto the piano bench next to her and placed his head on the keys by her right hand. This shows you how much she's recovered from her stroke. Dawgs!
I vicariously live through other pet owners. One of my favorite things on YouTube are various videos of basset hounds. Hunting machines, and massive goofballs. My oldest sister had one. One thing I remember well was going to a gumball machine she had in her home and buying a gumball. The hound folowed me there, wagging her tail 100 mph. I told her to go away, she couldn't have gumballs. My sis said "She can have a gumball." I'm thinking "A dog? A gumball?" But I went ahead and bought one for her, and she took it, and she sucked on it until it was fully dissolved. For sometime afterwards, she ran around with a blue tongue, happy as can be. (Oh yeah, and I have seldom run into more fierce tug of war opponents than that one hound.) Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 at March 30, 2024 04:52 PM (8sMut) 71
Precious the rescue Bichon gave us a surprise this week. She has never taken food or treats from our hands, we have to put it on the floor or in her food bowl. We assume her first owner caused this behavior. On a whim, Mrs. JTB offered her a piece of Kraft Singles cheese. One sniff and she took it right from her fingers. We were intrigued and a full slice later we were convinced. I tried it the next day and she repeated with enthusiasm. But she hasn't extended this to anything else so far. With pets you never know.

But they use to cuddle up most of their lives and watched out for each other. Like if one accidentally got locked in a room or something.
Posted by: Skip at March 30, 2024 *** My two do this. Both love to dash into a closet when I open the door, and sometimes when I'm in a hurry I neglect to check for them being there. After a while I become aware that one of them is lying outside the closet door, or pawing at the crack at the bottom. Almost invariably, when I open the door, out bounces the other cat. Diogenes,
Joe will let you know when life is no longer worth living. Please don't have him suffer through painful interventions. Give him all the treats and all the love and walkies he wants. And ear rubs. And don't forget the belly. Posted by: nurse ratched at March 30, 2024 04:56 PM (C9oTe) 75
Greetings pet lovers! A wonderful assortment of pets, as per usual. Locally, I got a chuckle out of this honest to gosh headline "Wildlife authorities investigate reports of a mountain lion in South San Francisco" (not far from me).
A security cam picked up what residents reported was a cougar walking along a fence. Further investigation revealed that the fence slats were 4 inches wide and the animal encompassed 3 of them, making it a one foot long ordinary house cat. You can try prednisone to keep inflammation down. You can try Esiac tea or maybe ivermectin. It depends on how agressive the cancer is. The one Gary had was a 10% survival rate. With an older dog, you don't want to do surgery.

Nurse,
Yeah, he loves the belly rubs and is always convinced that they end too soon. Doing bucket list stuff for him but of course he just thinks its another fun day. And no, no lingering interventions. Posted by: Diogenes at March 30, 2024 04:59 PM (W/lyH) 78

The babies are at least double their birth size, chubby little things. They are walking around now and keeping Mom more busy fetching them.

Our Lily is a 4 year old Corgi, and for two days straight played with our adolescent grandkids at the swimming pool in our screened lanai. Nonstop running and stopping, reversing, back and forth, wearing out her little foot pads on the concrete pavers.
Last night after the kids left for home up north, she could hardly walk. Poor little feet scrubbed raw. She is quietly recovering and we hope she gets back to her perky self soon. Posted by: Mr Gaga at March 30, 2024 05:06 PM (KiBMU) 82
Of course we do have actual wildlife that poses threats to pets, like coyotes who will easily eat an adult house cat, we also have red tail hawks who have been known to take pups and small cats. There is a feral cat in my neighborhood, all black, I have named him Midnight Mambo. Tried to approach him but he runs away. He will come in my yard and pee in certain places much to the consternation of my indoor cat Dexter who goes out every now and then.

Not a pet, but we did have a skunk mosey into our backyard and hide out under a low deck seating area next to our pool. I hope it was looking for food and not a place to drop babies.
Internet said to put a radio out there and put it on talk radio. Guess skunks are left-tards? Posted by: olddog in mo at March 30, 2024 05:16 PM (ju2Fy) 87

20 ... "I need to buy new poodle clippers - these have been dropped 2 many times and the blade won't clip on properly. Plus it's7years old.
Anyone got a favorite kind?" Hi vmom, I don't recall the specific model but the clippers we used for the poodles were made by Oster. They lasted over 10 years. Posted by: JTB at March 30, 2024 05:19 PM (zudum) 89
