27 Cool and fresh outside -- well, as fresh as this swamp ever gets. I'm considering a drive up the state highway to the Walmart about a half hour away. They don't open until seven, though, and don't usually have a real checkout line open until near eight.

Anybody else notice that you get a little better gas mileage on Shell gas over Exxon? I've been hitting an Exxon station near me for some months, occasionally mixing some ethanol-free gas into my tank, and I get .10/gal. off with my card. Recently I got a Shell card with .30 off for my first five visits, up to 35 gallons, and then I'll have .10/gal off after that. Well, I've gassed up with Shell three times now, and my mileage (calculated, and on my instruments) is up a bit. I haven't changed my driving habits, either. So I wonder.

Been a looong time since I read Young People's Bible Stories as a kid, but I still remember some of the names and events from the Old Testament. Temple girl rather than street hooker? Maybe. My first acquaintance with her story was the version Heinlein has her tell his hero in Job: A Comedy of Justice. The hero, who was a minister of sorts in his world before his troubles began, tells Rahab that he doesn't know of any Christian who thinks poorly of her.

50 >> Usually, Easter and Passover are in the neighborhood, date/month wise.

THis gets....complicated. I rambled some about on the ONT last night.

This lunar year per the Jewish calendar has a leap month. Thus, the next full Moon, not the current one on March 25th, sets Passover in that calendar.

The Orthodox (and Coptic) Churces still use the Julian calendar and an unccorected lunar calendar for the Computus of Easter.

Basically, the Paschal Full Moon is the first full Moon of astronomical Spring (and the first full moon of the apparent Tropical Year). That sets the date of Easter.

The Churches uses various calendars that don't exactly correspond to the true astronomical events.

53
The Gregorian calendar reform "fixed" the date of Easter, getting the calendar back in sync with the astronomical seasons (for a few thousand years). This is well known.

But it also fixed the ecclesiastical lunar calendar to more precisely correspond with the true astronomical full Moons.

Per the Gregorian reform, the first full Moon on or after the vernal equinox sets that date of the Western Easter pretty close.

See Milutin Milankovitch. Of Milankovitch cycle fame. He was a Serbian Slavonaut (as Uncle Palp might say). Look up his cycles.

Anyway he was also a Christian Nationalist, Orthodox Branch, and got his self appointed an Expert Delegate to an Orthodox Synod back in 1923. His task was to come up with a Computus of Easter that all Christendom, Protestant, Roman Catholic and Orthodox (and COptic) coul agree on.

His proposal was simple. We just use the actual astronomical event, the first full Moon after the Vernal Equinox. Easter is the first Sunday after the first full Moon on after the Vernal Equinox, astronomical event.

They all agreed that was a good idea. But it hasn't been approved by everybody yet. Only been 101 years, which isn't that long when trying to get all Christendomt to agree on something.

In Milankovitch's rather simple Computus, there was one ambiguity. Time Zone. The actual astronominical event occurs at a fixed point in time, but the actual date, whether's it's a Sunday or Weekday depends on Time Zone.

SO which time zone? Prime Meridian? Nope, the decided the Holy Meridian would determine time zone. This is the Meridian passing through the Tomb of Christ where the Resurrection happened.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre longitude is chosen as this meridian.

97 The problem figuring out the Russian situation is that there's aboutva dozen highly plausible groups that could have been behind it. Which is why i suspect that, just to throw everyone off, this one has none of them behind it and is just more of the garden variety satanic mayhem that fills the earth these days.

The attack accomplished no concievable objectives for anyone; it might make Putin slightly more popularbin Russia than he already was, but he didnt need the boost. It was just slaughter for the sake of slaughter.

Not that he needs an excuse to ramp up attacks on Kiev, they started on the 21st and the massacre happened, I believe on the 22nd. Whoever the murdering assholes are, it was brutal and to what end. By incentivizing the construction of affordable units, reforming zoning laws to encourage diverse housing solutions, and providing direct assistance to those in need, we will ensure that no family is left behind.

To his credit, this is one of Matt Yglesias' peeves. The left always cries about affordable housing, but gets all NIMBY when solutions are proposed where they live.

There's some sort of small house you can buy on Amazon for about $50,000. I wouldn't mind having one myself.

196 Looooooolllllll. It is always the same play.

Chicago announces the existence of an additional 10k mail-in ballots that were "mistakenly" not mentioned until now.

Many (if not most) of the ballots are from dropboxes, meaning postmarks are NOT required…

This will have MAJOR implications.

Just 4,000 votes total now separate the 2 candidates in the Attorney General race.

O'Neill Burke (tougher on crime) initially had a significant lead, but ballots keep trickling in & Clayton Harris keeps getting closer.

200 >>Smaller town in north texas (Plano circa 1980) got many complaints after DART started running there they did not have low income apartments.

In late 2020, legislation was passed in MA that high-density housing projects are automatically approved in communities that did not meet a minimum low-income housing level. By mid-2021 many lovely small towns had some sort of campaign "Save Bruni Farm" etc. because the builders started in earnest, and the local residents are now powerless to stop them. Last I heard it was even affecting the more posh towns like Sudbury.

Destroying America - you can't get those farms back once they become meg-apartments, you can't get your safe communities back once it's filled with the undesirable outsiders our government leaders thinks should be cared for ahead of productive taxpayers.

Pennsylvania is the number two state in flood damage. Zoning laws are tough in my town and most others to limit the number of homes and amount of impermeable surfaces, and retaining basins are required to handle storm water on site.

Eventually these sort of regulations will be found exclusionary and we'll become the number one state in flood damage.
