And we'll meet my goal for 2030 and race forward in the years ahead."

That's not even the end game. The grid infrastructure of the US cannot handle such an increase in electricity use (as we see these "brown-outs" with more regularity). The true end game is forcing everyone to take up Urban living.
EV's are easier to regulate and negate your use via electrical rationing (not to mention easier to track and tax based on use). They want to destroy the fossil fuel industry, then over regulate (and eventually ration use) of EV's...so that you are forced to take up residence in a mass transit area (cities)... This was always the end goal. Farming will be turned over to corporate in full. No more rural rubes. Once your personal transportation is gone, you'll have no choice. Then, it will be all about numbers for political control....and now you know why Illegals are being moved into the country...to tip the scales in any future elections. The Party has to balance its own factional power balance while also keeping the pipelines of theft open and maintaining their delicate balance of graft and corruption with external players. They have to keep the plates spinning, but there's no longer enough money to do it. The theft can't be hidden anymore, and the bill is coming due. That bill can't be paid, and reform is impossible. So, it appears that Trump has decided on his strategy on facing a Monday deadline to post a bond in his "fraud" litigation, which is to do nothing. Letitia James is already starting to panic. So, starting Monday, Letitia James will be free to seize all of Trump's assets in New York (including Trump Tower), and will be free to sell them off to satisfy the judgement. This will have two effects: all this lawfare against Trump is already backfiring, and this will turn Trump into even more of a martyr than he already is; and this will tank the New York real estate market even more than it already is, as New York clearly becomes Venezuela. People will go to war over this, easily. Those that say this isn't meant to take effect are wrong, they mean it. They want to eliminate most private vehicle ownership. Several states have already outright banned ICE passenger vehicles with effective dates that are earlier than this WH effort.
It's the usual tactic; tighten the screws. If people don't fight back, the moonbats win. If they do, they're insurrectionists. But I'm not sure the idiots in DC realize that they're not necessarily meant to succeed here, and that those giving marching orders may be setting them up. for their own purposes. There is *no way* DC can win a fight with flyover country if things get serious. We have assumed for several years that our next vehicle purchase will probably be our last. January 10, 2018: "Asheville City Council took another step towards achieving its goal to reduce the City’s carbon footprint Jan. 9 when it voted to buy five electric buses for the City’s transit system, Asheville Redefines Transit (ART). When delivered 12 months from now, the buses will offer Asheville residents and visitors a modern, zero-emission, ecologically-friendly bus ride."
January 18, 2024: "ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — The city of Asheville's purchase of five electric buses in 2018 has turned into a multi-million-dollar loss. The irony is that the blue shitholes will be the first to fall apart as regulating natural gas out of the picture, demanding electric vehicles for buses and essential services and mandating DEI without regard to ability or intelligence will collapse them way before the red states. Fun anecdote from the Math Bee: We were headed home after lunch when the boys spotted a VERY NICE looking yellow Lambo. They begged me to slow down (not hard in a 15-passenger van) so it could catch up to us after a stoplight. I'd never heard one in person, but I have now! You just can't get that boyish excitement with an EV.

Oh! And at the very beginning of the car search, I did ask for a Tesla S. I was promptly reminded I cost money, I don’t make money, and there wasn’t a chance in hades. My neighbors have one and it’s really cool. I was told I could get a golf cart. 🤣. The base model of the car I got is 3 steps above golf cart. I baby stepped my way up from there.

Indeed they have. In about 2008 they published in internal EV feasibility study for US/NorAm. It concluded it is not possible to replace 50% of the vehicle fleet with EV because the grids won't support it, distances are too great, climate variability, etc.
So you are in a STEM program at college today. Do you pursue degrees in building ICE? Anywhere in the hydrocarbon industry (geologists/seismology, petrochem engineers, refinery management)? The NY CRE market is already largely in turmoil. I can assure you there are crisis level meetings regarding the Trump Kangaroo Court and NY Judiciary Monkey Circus. This is especially true if you are a public corporation with shareholders. The shareholders are rightly asking how you guard against this type of random, lawless, victimless seizure where "laws" were adjusted and weaponized to get a predetermined judgment which is being enforced by a corrupt court. In fact, you must point this out as a business risk on your 10k. Unfortunately for NY the answer is divestiture or at least restructuring in a way that protects those assets. But that won't completely protect the physical property. Anyway, right now investing in NY CRE or any type of incorporation is off the table for many. Which is as they say, too bad. Look at who pays the bills in NY and the budget gap.

I wish people would stop using the word "feudal" according to its unhistorical Marxist definition. Feudalism was a system of land tenure based on military service. Period. You didn't need to even have serfs (Normandy didn't after about 1200.) And it wasn't widespread throughout history. Other than arguably Japan, it's a European thing, post Roman, premodern.

Letitia James is an idiot, but the adults know what is about to happen." You can't state political assurances in you 10k as a mitigating risk factor. You must show, according to the SEC how you address known material risks. In fact a business in NY with any presence or real estate must point this out in their filings or they will be open to both shareholder lawsuits and SEC enforcement according to statute and rules. Leases are also great that you give zero fucks about the car. Park it on the street and let it bake in the sun. Not my car, I don't care. Give zero fucks if salt gets on it. Let it warm up? Why, not my car, I give no fucks about the long term effects. It's always in warranty and the lease is over before any major maintenance is required. And that is just the beginning as it will, intentionally, put the oil business on a path to its demise which directly begins to consolidate the life blood of a modern society, energy to run it, in the hands of the government. Had this discussion this morning at office coffee klatch. Super Dem of the group was talking this up. I opined that it was a stupid idea as we can't get Texas to shore up the grid as it is. One could only imagine what will happen when we add EVs to grid load. His response was that people who don't responsibly add solar panels and generators to their home are part of the problem. So not only am I part of the problem as I'm Waspy white, I don't have solar panels nor drive an EV.

Posted by: Usedtocould at March 21, 2024 01:06 PM (LRa30) Problem is that you don't charge your car, during the day. It happens after you get home in the evening... when wayyyyyy less Electricity is generated even if you do have solar. Which means, you have to have batteries. A 10 KWH battery, runs just about $10K. The SMALLEST Tesla battery is over 50 KWH... So.... $50K - $100K for batteries just to store the energy to fully supply your car. Yesterday, a sunny Calif day, my 20 solar panels created 33 KWH of electricity... not enough to fully charge a damn car. Math just does not work. I drive a 20 year old BMW SUV. Zero payments for the last 17 years. I have had about $10k repairs over that time as suspension/seals etc wear out. Still drives better than anything new and gets 20mpg at 85 on the raod.

So other than an oil change or two, zero cost to own other than the lease.
At the end of 2 or 3 years, take it back, hand over the keys and never think about it again. It's a long term rental. Posted by: Montec at March 21, 2024 12:56 PM (bWsRe) == Way late - but I was looking this fall - the lease rates on EVs were astronomically expensive, with what I would call very unfavorable terms. I realize this moves as the market moves. EVs of course have just gotten worse since then too. Posted by: Black JEM at March 21, 2024 03:49 PM (GZYu7) 466
