The Lawless Biden Administration Declares That Gas-Powered Cars Will be Outlawed On No Authority But Its Own

The Biden administration has issued its final rule governing tailpipe emissions that will force automakers to phase out gas cars by requiring up to 60% of new cars sold by 2032 to be EVs or hybrids. The emissions standards are so draconian that only a fleet dominated by EVs will meet the government's standards.

The New York Times calls it "the most significant climate regulations in the nation's history." It's also virtually guaranteed to keep millions of Americans out of the new car market and create enormous chaos on the roads. The infrastructure, including enough charging stations and mechanics to service tens of millions of electric vehicles, simply won't be there.
But in the name of "battling climate change," no price is too steep, no inconvenience too stupid to endure.
"Three years ago, I set an ambitious target: that half of all new cars and trucks sold in 2030 would be zero-emission," said Mr. Biden in a statement. "Together, we've made historic progress. Hundreds of new expanded factories across the country. Hundreds of billions in private investment and thousands of good-paying union jobs. And we'll meet my goal for 2030 and race forward in the years ahead."

The few gas-powered cars available for purchase will be artificially made much more expensive due to 1, demand, and 2, due to the fact that automakers will struggle to sell pricey EVs, and will sell EVs at a loss while jacking up the prices on gas-powered cars so as to still make a profit on the entire fleet.

EV's are easier to regulate and negate your use via electrical rationing (not to mention easier to track and tax based on use). They want to destroy the fossil fuel industry, then over regulate (and eventually ration use) of EV's...so that you are forced to take up residence in a mass transit area (cities)...

This was always the end goal. Farming will be turned over to corporate in full. No more rural rubes. Once your personal transportation is gone, you'll have no choice. Then, it will be all about numbers for political control....and now you know why Illegals are being moved into the country...to tip the scales in any future elections.

They are, but it isn't really related to the election.

The US government is terminally dysfunctional. There is too much corruption, too much theft, too much hatred, too many conflicting interests. The Party has to balance its own factional power balance while also keeping the pipelines of theft open and maintaining their delicate balance of graft and corruption with external players. They have to keep the plates spinning, but there's no longer enough money to do it. The theft can't be hidden anymore, and the bill is coming due.

That bill can't be paid, and reform is impossible. Even attempting reform will blow up the system because it's so fragile. So instead, they steal and advance as much as possible.

We're in the "loot it empty before it augers in" stage, and the election has little to do with it.

With the war on natural gas, heat pumps will come to the rescue. That will even work (and be more energy efficient on average), usually about 330 days per year. When those big cold snaps happen, though, and the resistance heat has to kick on, hello local/region power failures.

Or they have a radio control to turn your heat off so you can be cold but the power stays on.

Computerized engine management isn't the problem. That has been a net benefit to fuel economy and driveability. The problem arises when the entire car is managed by a computer that keeps in contact with Skynet by radio, tracking your movements, how fast you drive, and where, and giving Skynet the power to shut you car down on a whim. If some remote agency has ultimate control over your car, guess what? You don't own it.

One of the salespeople told me I would not get any return on the investment because of my short commute- I was thinking it would be the exact opposite. I appreciated his honesty. I then took a look at the electric version of the car I bought because the sticker price was less than the one I ended up buying in a moment of being responsible. But then I threw it out the window and went with really fast and really fun instead. I figured I was buying an unreasonable car no matter how you sliced it, so may as well go whole hog.

Indeed they have. In about 2008 they published in internal EV feasibility study for US/NorAm. It concluded it is not possible to replace 50% of the vehicle fleet with EV because the grids won't support it, distances are too great, climate variability, etc.

They're going back to lighter, small product development. Next year they're releasing a $10k utility cart/truck in Thailand and Mexico, IMV 0.

Leasing is just paying the depreciation. You're paying it whether you lease or buy, just in different ways. And the big savings with leasing is sales tax. Buy a $50K car, you pay sales tax on $50K. Lease a $50K car, you're paying $15-20K depreciation on it and only paying sales tax on that $15-20K.

Why, not my car, I give no fucks about the long term effects. It's always in warranty and the lease is over before any major maintenance is required. So other than an oil change or two, zero cost to own other than the lease.

At the end of 2 or 3 years, take it back, hand over the keys and never think about it again. It's a long term rental.

The trouble with that thinking is that the truly competitive market doesn't exist. What we have is always run through with distortions. And not all are simply a matter of government; when the gov broke up the telephone monopoly it INCREASED competition.

Since we don't live in Rothbardland, we have to deal with that fact realistically. The less regulation, the better. But we cannot simply disavow the enemy's weapons and tactics. That's how we've been losing.

Yep. Typically 10K or 12K miles a year. Sometimes you can get 15K or as low as 5K. And again, it's just depreciation cost. A lease for 10K will be cheaper than a 12K, because 2K miles a year driven depreciates it X% more, and so on.

It's not beneath me but for certain kinds of cars -- exotics, sports cars, etc -- it's very risky to keep them past the warranty period. If the motor blows on a basic sedan or SUV, it's not the end of the world to replace it. For an exotic? That's gonna be a $40k bill easy.

Problem is that you don't charge your car, during the day. It happens after you get home in the evening... when wayyyyyy less Electricity is generated even if you do have solar.

Which means, you have to have batteries. A 10 KWH battery, runs just about $10K. The SMALLEST Tesla battery is over 50 KWH... So.... $50K - $100K for batteries just to store the energy to fully supply your car.

Yesterday, a sunny Calif day, my 20 solar panels created 33 KWH of electricity... not enough to fully charge a damn car.

Math just does not work.

The car I just got rid of was a 2012 I bought new. I don’t buy cars frequently, obviously. I like to get them paid off and not have car notes. LOL. Did you read any of what I wrote? I said it's the same cost either way. As in equal. Not better, not worse.

But the added benefit (for me) that I don't have to worry about it. A long term rental (for me) is better than owning, paying sales tax, and worrying about it. Also reduces headaches at the end of the lease since there;s no time spent selling or anything. Drop it off, go on your way.

But if it's not your thing, all good. It's really not a big deal.

461 I hadn't had a wreck or a ticket in over 20 years or more. In 2022 I was hit by uninsured drivers twice. Both times the police did not issue these wonderful people of color tickets for no insurance. That record is still on the TxDot website that tracks wrecks and they say they can't change anything because law enforcement created the records.

463 I drive a 20 year old BMW SUV. Zero payments for the last 17 years. I have had about $10k repairs over that time as suspension/seals etc wear out. Still drives better than anything new and gets 20mpg at 85 on the raod.

465 Leases are also great that you give zero fucks about the car. Park it on the street and let it bake in the sun. Not my car, I don't care. Give zero fucks if salt gets on it. Let it warm up? Why, not my car, I give no fucks about the long term effects. It's always in warranty and the lease is over before any major maintenance is required. So other than an oil change or two, zero cost to own other than the lease.

At the end of 2 or 3 years, take it back, hand over the keys and never think about it again. It's a long term rental.

Way late - but I was looking this fall - the lease rates on EVs were astronomically expensive, with what I would call very unfavorable terms. I realize this moves as the market moves. EVs of course have just gotten worse since then too.
