53 Ordered a relatively expensive office chair [$300] from Staples.

It arrived in four days but the column that supports the chair and its compression tube and the 'spine' of the chair that holds the back to the seat, and the bag with the five casters and all of the small parts [washers, screws, Allen keys] is missing.

They tell me they'll give me a UPS free shipping label to return it but I have to take it to a UPS office myself [besides repacking the items in the box].

I'm going to wait until Monday in case as a longshot the parts come anyway [the estimated delivery day was supposed to have been Monday]; or if they get the full replacement chair sent to me by then.

Coming from a third party supplier just north of Toronto and not directly from them by Staples own delivery truck. A bit ticked but we'll see.

113 Stellar news...

A star system, located 3,000 light-years away from Earth, is predicted to become visible to the unaided eye soon. This could be a once-in-a-lifetime viewing opportunity as the nova ouburst only occurs about every 80 years. T Coronae Borealis, or T CrB, last exploded in 1946 and astronomers believe it will do so again between February and September 2024.

Not a "super nova" but a "regular nova." Happens, with this star, about once every 80 years or so.

There are 10 wealthy countries? I gotta see this.

The percentage of people who had access to primary care was lower than in any of the other countries surveyed, which included Australia, France, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The average among all 10 countries was 93 per cent.

The Netherlands had the best ranking, with 99 per cent of adults living there reporting they had access to primary care in 2023

Whiteout conditions in snow flurries can be as bad. Bright foglights aimed to pick up the center line and the fog line help. Also helps to have a bright, rear-facing red spotlight (actually a thing in some Euro countries). And if you only use them in genuinely bad weather conditions, you will never annoy other drivers.

Planet Fitness looses $400 million in 5 days after banning female customer who exposed a transgender male in a women’s locker room.

The companies value dropped from $5.3 billion on March 14 to $4.9 billion on March 19 during a week which saw thousands call for boycotts and cancellation of memberships.

The massive loses come after Planet Fitness refused to back down after banning a woman who exposed a trans man shaving in a women’s locker room.

Patricia Silva was barred from the gym in Alaska after she exposed the man.

The company however defended allowing males in women’s spaces saying “this discomfort is not a reason to deny access to the transgender member..”
Shares at the company are also down a sharp 13.59% compared to February.

Planet Fitness hasn't lost one dime until the canceled memberships start mounting up. Their shareholders have lost value, but unless they sell those shares, the loss isn't realized. Their customers have to walk away, and stay away.

Planet Fitness hasn't lost one dime until the canceled memberships start mounting up. Their shareholders have lost value, but unless they sell those shares, the loss isn't realized. Their customers have to walk away, and stay away.

It won’t hurt PF at all until the franchisees take action. Each gym is individually owned. This is going to wreck small business owner if the mothership doesn’t back up.

185 Planet Fitness cont.

What will be interesting is those who own franchises and their agreements are up refuse to renew. Planet Fitness has nothing proprietary about them, it’s hard to go independent in the fitness world, but this maybe a time to try it.

My franchise is proprietary and the gold standard for Barre. I would be sunk like a mobster in concrete shoes if this happened to me.

I think it'll come down to whether or not the municipality is willing to have LEO arrest trespassers and prosecute. If they don't, the franchisee is hosed.

And, as you wrote, going independent is a risky move. In a slightly better country, a venture cap firm would swoop in and re-franchise for those that leave PF. But, yeah...

Ignoring Wesley Crusherish factoids such as flamingos are filter feeders, rather than straight pescatorial consumers, flamingos have never had the sheer volume of polymorphic perverse behaviours that penguins have.

Nor is the effluent of their cloacae anywhere close to the mephiticness of penguin guano.

There's a reason Big Penguin has been cloaking penguin content under the camoflage of "ice bats", etc.
