‘Holy Grail Of Shipwrecks’: Recovery Of 18th-Century Spanish Ship Could Begin In April
The San José, sunk in 1708, has been at the center of a dispute over who has rights to the wreck, including $17bn in booty Since the Colombian navy discovered the final resting place of the Spanish galleon San José in 2015, its location has remained a state secret, the wreck – and its precious cargo – left deep under the waters of the Caribbean. Efforts to conserve the ship and recover its precious cargo have been caught up in a complicated string of international legal disputes, with Colombia, Spain, Bolivian indigenous groups and a US salvage company laying claim to the wreck, and the gold, silver and emeralds onboard thought to be worth as much as $17bn. When Colombia tried to auction off part of the bounty to fund the colossal costs of recovering the ship, Unesco and the country’s high courts intervened. https://tinyurl.com/t6pe9h3t Posted by: andycanuck (2yu8s) at March 18, 2024 07:33 PM (2yu8s) 8

The eggs vary much in size, from a large hen’s egg to a goose’s. They mostly lay two at once. Their nests are sometimes close together, so you can soon pick up a lot. They stand in pairs, each couple at their nest to defend it, and some will not give up till they have been kicked away two or three times. They can give a good sharp bite, if they get hold of you.

A senior Hamas official told CNN that he cannot provide any assurances about the wellbeing of Israeli hostages held in Gaza, but rejected a United Nations special representative’s finding that there is “clear and convincing information” that some of them have been sexually abused.
Utter bullshit from this monster. "Naim rejected defining Hamas’ attacks as terrorism, falsely claiming that his organization does not target civilians." At least ISIS and al-Qaeda took responsibility for their actions. At the same time, there are people globally who run around accusing Israel of committing a genocide. And always make distinctions between Hamas and Civilians. Not only globally, but right here on DU. I see post here quite frequently how Israel is committing "genocide" when they quite obviously don't know the meaning of genocide. I condemn all that use religion as a weapon. I've no use for violence from either side. I condemn Hamas and BiBi and his Ultra Conservative fighters equally. I condemn antisemitism and Islamophobia too. "Just like Mandela." That’s how one of our more active members put it. Posted by: Intercepted DU Transmissions brought by the Intrepid AoS Liaison at March 18, 2024 08:59 PM (ycI94) 203

Today, the 18th, is technically the last day of Winter, and astronomical Spring begins tomorrow, the 19th, but just barely for Eastern time zones and west. It will occur at 11:06PM EDT tomorrow. It's still the 20th in Zulu. The vernal equinoxes in leap years this century are going to get earlier and earlier by a few years and a couple of decades, it will push it to the 19th in UTC. That will then rest in 2100, with the skipped leap year. Since 2000 was a leap year per the Gregorian 400 year cycle, we'll have centuries years of leap years every 4 years, without skipping, and so that starts to push the equinox quite early after 2000. It was a simpler time.
Abraham Lincoln, who attended school for less than a year, became a lawyer under an Illinois law enacted in 1833. This law stated that to be a lawyer someone had to "obtain a certificate procured from the court of an Illinois county certifying to the applicant's good moral character." Lincoln actually went to the Illinois Supreme Court to get his certificate. On September 9, 1836, a license to practice law was issued to Abraham Lincoln by two of the justices of the Illinois Supreme Court. Later, in a more formal session, on March 1, 1837, Lincoln appeared before the clerk of the Illinois Supreme Court and took an oath to support the Constitution of the United States and of Illinois. Lincoln swore he would "in all things faithfully execute the duties of Attorney and Counselor at Law." Lincoln was then formally enrolled as an attorney licensed to practice law in all the courts of the state of Illinois. https://bityl.co/Opuo Posted by: G'rump928(c) at March 18, 2024 09:10 PM (aD39U) 227
