When I did policy analysis, it was hard enough to figure out immediate effects but second and third order effects and lagging effects got to be extremely difficult to figure out.
Easier to just lie about what a policy does or does not do which is what the politicians and their associated cronies do. The benefits to them and theirs are always immediate first order effects---any negative downside of a policy is spread upon the masses along with whatever vague benefits might actually occur by accident.

The economic theory answer is that ACA, being largely just additional regulations, simply added to the bureaucratic work involved in the process and increased costs.

So the point of confusion is that the Bill of Rights in the Constitution reframes very old philosophical positions as simplified rights, which is helpful from a legal standpoint but confusing when deeply considered.

Not counting the ethnic Russians Ukraine has a population of around 37M. If we look at say Romania in WWII, they had half modern Ukraine's population and fielded twice as many soldiers. And they didn't have an ally giving them their entire GDP like the Ukraine has with the US right now either...

That is a misconception of the nature of rights and privileges and the nature of legal communities in and of themselves.
As far as rights, they are baked into the cake when a covenant exists to create a political society. So, you have to hypothesize the total absence of government where everything is allowed to then understand what comes after. Who is in that political community and who is outside of that community makes a difference as far as rights.
Thus, someone who invades a country would not have rights in that political community and would be an 'outlaw'.
By the way, natural rights are divinely inspired from basic moral fundamentals in the Good Book. The right to bear arms is in order to effect the right to self protection for self and society--illegals are outside of that society being invaders and do not qualify to bear arms under that understanding. Same goes for felons.

In Japan, I can even - sort of - grok it. In a place defined by tiny, high-density apartments, pet ownership can often be out of reach. In a place dominated by very long working hours, pet ownership can be cruel even if achievable, and many will not put a beloved animal through that. Paying by the hour for some animal companionship isn't inconceivable to me. If I were in a tiny apartment and working 12 hours a day, 5-6 days a week, and beset on all sides by despair, I could see doing it myself.
I'll bet that where this happens in America, conditions are similar. I doubt it's in the suburbs.

We live in a weird timeline. The "body count" is something that is very difficult to suss out, especially with regard to women. Women tend to guard their body counts quite jealously, because of what ballistic said upthread.

But also, men usually calculate the number using a method that is prone to over-estimation. Yes and no. Gag orders are presumptively involved with the right of a fair trial with the potential to harm the jury pool. But they can and have been challenged as far as being overly broad. Trump himself has won quite a bit leeway in appellate cases over them.

When I did policy analysis, it was hard enough to figure out immediate effects but second and third order effects and lagging effects got to be extremely difficult to figure out.
Easier to just lie about what a policy does or does not do which is what the politicians and their associated cronies do. The benefits to them and theirs are always immediate first order effects---any negative downside of a policy is spread upon the masses along with whatever vague benefits might actually occur by accident.

Was heavy into the health benefits world at the time - was in DC to lobby against it. We knew it would raise prices because it put hospitals in charge, and did a few other underwriting items sure to increase costs.
The only thing we got wrong is that we did think that more employers would dump their employees into the exchange. The exchanges were so poorly put together that employers didn't dare do that.
