The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“He’s easily pushed around by the woke-left lunatics who renamed his family’s baseball team. “My attitude is anybody that changes the name of the Cleveland Indians to the Cleveland Guardians should not be a senator, should not be in government.” President Donald J. Trump
Considering who Ohioans vote for Katshit, DeWine, etc. I expect the RINO to win.

Quote II

“This is not an attempt to ban TikTok. It’s an attempt to make TikTok better. Tic-tac-toe, a winner. A winner,” Nancy Pelosi

Quote III

"For the last 100 years, Sam Ash Music has successfully adapted to meet the challenge of changing business conditions. As we look towards the next 100 years, the company must continue to adapt to ensure its continued success." Statement from Sam Ash Music

It is a good thing MushHead despises Putin. Otherwise he would be taking notes for this upcoming November.

March 17, 2024, was formally declared by the Russian Federation Council as the official date for the presidential election. Following this declaration, the Russian Central Election Commission (CEC) unveiled the voting schedule, spanning three days from March 15 to 17.
The Russian Federation's president is elected by its citizens for a six-year term. In the 2024 elections, four candidates are vying for the presidency: Vladimir Putin as an independent candidate, Nikolai Kharitonov from the Communist Party (CPRF), Leonid Slutsky from the Liberal Democratic Party (LDPR), and Vladislav Davankov from the New People party.

WATCH: Biden Wanders Aimlessly in Rain, Karen Handlers Shoo Away Press

Today in “this is how Democracy™ works, Jack, no joke, you dog-faced pony soldier,” we have the virile president of the United States getting lost in the rain, rescued, and then shielded from public views by his frumpy, childless handlers (the press they are paid to control are surrogate children to them).

Since Harvard was mentioned in the video above, let's take a peek at that prestigious hallowed halls of higher education.

Harvard Business School professor whose research into why people cheat and act dishonestly was found by an internal probe to have cheated and acted dishonestly, according to The Harvard Crimson, the student newspaper of Harvard University.

The nearly 1,300-page internal report into professor Francesca Gino found that she had adjusted data in at least four published studies so as to make the data fit the theories she was trying to prove, according to the New York Post.

“The committee concludes that Professor Gino has engaged in multiple instances of research misconduct, across all four studies at issue in these allegations,” the report read, according to the Post.

Her skin color is going against her. She's Italian-American. She's probably also straight and her preferred pronouns are she/her. But, I'm just spit ballin' here on these topics.

Hey if I would have ever had a son, I would have named him Charlie. Instead I have 3 wonderful daughters. And no, none of them were named Charlie. I got myself a dog. Perhaps this selfish mother should have gotten a pet.

Mom Gives Triplet Girls Same Name - The One Meant For The Boy She Wanted

Expectant parents often find their baby journey to be difficult long before the child is even born. Name selection alone is a challenge in itself. A decision has to be made on whether to use a more common name or a unique one, and of course, what exactly that name is. What can be especially troubling is if a parent decides they really want a boy or a girl, going so far as to come up with a name for just that gender, only to be disappointed. That's just what happened to one mom who had her heart so set on having a son that she didn't even think of girl names. Imagine her surprise when she had not just one girl, but three of them. She didn't let that boy name go to waste though, instead, she used it for all three of her newborns.

Oh goody! Young people who are clueless and unimaginative can apply for a Federal job and make a healthy buck, off of those who work for a living.

The White House plans to officially launch an online platform in April. At first, only a couple of hundred jobs will be posted, but eventually up to 20,000 young people are expected to be hired in the program’s first year. Interested candidates can apply to the positions through the portal, and the majority of the positions are not expected to require experience.

“The American Climate Corps is a story of hope and possibilities,” said Maggie Thomas, a special assistant to the president for climate change. “There’s an incredible demand signal from young people who we see as being put on a pathway to good-paying careers.”

There is a marketplace for everything. Some items just sell quicker than others.

The craziest listings on Facebook Marketplace
Facebook Marketplace is a great place to find deals. It also makes for one of the best scrolls on the internet

Once the default gateway to the internet, today Facebook has a reputation as one of the least cool places on the web — at least for America’s taste-making young people. But, as the New York Times recently pointed out, there’s one corner of the platform that keeps the under-35 crowd coming back. Buried beneath the misinformation and photos from your high school gym teacher’s new car is Facebook Marketplace. It’s a holy land for people seeking deals, an unfiltered look at the human experience, and home to some of the most unhinged, disturbing, and delightful posts on the internet.

Facebook Marketplace has replaced Craigslist as the go-to place to buy, sell, and trade used stuff. Want to pick up a $2,000 couch for $300? Marketplace can help. Trying to get a few bucks for the rice cooker gathering dust on your kitchen counter, or that old guitar you haven’t played in years? Step right in. More people are recognizing it as a great resource for frugal consumers, but the world hasn’t woken up to its potential as a hub for unfiltered online weirdness.

44 Meanwhile, in Ukraine:
1.The Ukrainians sent a fair-sized drone and missile attack across the border in the northeast. Most of them were intercepted, with some Russian civilian casualties resulting. The Ukrainian motives are unclear, but these futile attacks may be an attempt to pull Russian troops away from elsewhere.
2. Little movement on the ground today. Interestingly, the Russians haven't erased the small salient the Ukrainians carved out as part of the failed Summer Counter Offensive. It is possible they are just waiting for the Ukrainians to try another assault on the same ground.
3. There was a drone attack on the small Russian garrison at their base in Transnistria, which destroyed one helicopter. This is adjacent to the port city of Odessa, which NATO needs to keep out of Russian hands. Expect more shenanigans in the area.

46 Looking at the OH election, one thing I've tried to get right leaning moderates to understand is that for Senate/House it does not matter who is closer to you ideologically, but that you need to vote for the MOST conservative candidate because he has to balance the leftwing extremists from blue states.

Imagine a 0-10 scale with 10 being the most conservative. If you are say a 6, you should vote for a Republican 9 vs a Democrat 5. Why?

Because if you vote for that Republican 9 you are almost equally out some blue state 0. If you vote for that Democrat 5 you are getting him AND that leftwing extremist from CA, MA, or NY

I disagree. Remember the plane that crashed leaving Ukraine full of American weapons?

The process:
1) Western Arms dealers ask Biden to give Ukraine their crap in return for paying him off.
2) Some of the weapons disappear for various off the book black ops
3) Some of the weapons go to Ukraine and immediately leave to fill the bank accounts of Lil Z and his allies
4) Some of the weapons go through Ukraine to China, again for bribes back to Biden

America Online and other non-Internet online service providers joined the Internet in 1993.

Until then, all the newbies showed up in September: when they got their first Internet accounts in college. So you spent a month training people, and then things were nice for a year. (Don't sock the regulars, don't blow the margins, close your tags, that kind of stuff..... except for Usenet.)

After AOL and Compuserve and such joined up, and commercial "ISPs" became A Thing, newbies joined all year 'round. And they weren't all Moron-quality minds. We got some Sids and Pauls, too.

And September hasn't ended since.

We have camera footage of a person leaving a cart out on a windy day, and over the course of 40 minutes the cart wandering the parking lot until a person parked their valued car off in a remote part of the lot, and the cart got directed by 'God'? to head straight for it, break a headlight, and damage a fender, and then amble away in the wind, to come to rest at least 100 yards away. The company did it because the mayor passed a law mandating it.

So my cow-workers started complaining about people scratching their cars. Called the company that owned the building evil and stupid...but for the ones that lived in town went on to re-elect the mayor.

I happened upon Great Books Every Catholic Should Know on EWTN (because I'm a wild and crazy guy) by Joseph Pearce. He was talking about relationships illustrating them through three Shakespeare plays, Hamlet, Twelth Night, and Othello. He claims Shakespeare was Catholic and one should interpret his works with a Catholic eye. For example, shortly before he wrote Othello, King James had broken his promise to tolerate Catholicism. Therefore Shakespeare named the villain in Othello Iago, short for Santiago meaning James.

Now just hold on a minute to those keys- the singular “they” has a long history of use in our language, back to the mid to late 1300s. This is well before the trans community started with their crapola. Also, while grammatically singular, the antecedent is plural, or a group . You are just fine, MisHum. No mention of the net income of about $200m on sales of $44b, compared to income in the billions on sales of $56b the previous year.

$12b LESS in sales? Why?

Barely a profit? Why?

LOL

Still looking through it, but looks like a deteriorating global economy, and income reduced because of impairment charges.

264 IIRC there is something that happens to kids that go through puberty in the same house hold that makes them (usually) not attracted to each other even if they aren't biologically related.

There is all sorts of interesting stuff that happens in this time period for kids that science doesn't know yet even if tradition does - I remember one study that found that girls without a close male relative in the house go through puberty earlier.
Posted by: 18-1

1) That's the Westermarck Effect.

B) I don't know what that effect is called, but it makes sense if you think about a primitive hunter-gatherer society. If a girl has no father or brothers in her household, it's likely that they were killed (hunting, war) and the tribe will need some replacement males ASAP. So the girls whose pheromone receptors kicked them into puberty early when there were no stinky men around were the ones whose tribes survived.

294 Fascinating thing about Dow Chemical is that the stuff they make is in just about everything, and their raw materials are essentially crude oil derivatives.

I didn't take much chemistry, but most of it is derived from ethylene.

The massive drop in net income seems scary, but a $1b+ impairment charges does not necessarily equate to a 1b+ drop in cash flow, just a realization of valuation of some assets to a more accurate value.

The drop in sales is a little more concerning.

Thanks, Biden.

My plumber gave me a 10 pound shank for Christmas, and it was darn good. (He and his friends hunt them) They say the best eating is from the ones that are 100 pounds or less; when they get too big the meat gets rank.

Have you seen those goons that Bukele has imprisoned? They have literally made themselves into Orcs. Gross, disgusting, and crude tattoos all over their faces, necks, and the rest of their bodies. They could not reform if they wanted to. They can never be released. Those warehoused Orcs will eventually become a serious hazard. I think they will have to foment a prison riot, and then send the Army in to put it down.

318 B) I don't know what that effect is called, but it makes sense if you think about a primitive hunter-gatherer society. If a girl has no father or brothers in her household, it's likely that they were killed (hunting, war) and the tribe will need some replacement males ASAP. So the girls whose pheromone receptors kicked them into puberty early when there were no stinky men around were the ones whose tribes survived.

except it works for rats, too.
Posted by: Kindltot

I don't know that that's an exception, other than rats don't fight many wars. If there aren't any closely-related males around, it's useful for any female animal to get to child-bearing age more quickly, because something must be killing them off.

The obvious exceptions would be

1) Non-social animals with small broods raised only by their mothers, like bears, and

B) modern First-World human society, where small families (no brothers for the girl children), and divorce or out-of-wedlock childbearing (no dad either) are common. But a half-dozen generations of living like that isn't going to change our genetic makeup.

I was reading about this. They used to do area code splitting. They'd divide a given area code nearing exhaustion (or where it was projected to be exhausted soon) into two (or more sub areas).

SC here used to be 803 statewide. Then they split us off in '95 to 864. Then split the low country off (Charleston and surrounding) a few years later.

Then they started doing "overlays", and now that is the exclusive method, no more splitting.

Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at March 18, 2024 02:10 AM (w6EFb)

372
Now, 7 digits dialing within an area code, even if an overlay was done, could still work fine. You'd just get the 7 digits inside that area code.

But the FCC in its wisdom decided this was "unfair". If you had to dial 10 digits for some local calls (in the new overlay), then to be fair, everyone should have to use 10 digits.

It wasn't so much fairness for customers, but fairness for the carriers. Any new numbers would "competitively disadvantage" that carrier against the old numbers which would still be 7 digits.

Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at March 18, 2024 02:13 AM (w6EFb)

373
10 digits are expected to be exhausted some time after 2050. While 10 digits is 10 billion, the rules that restrict what numbers can be used where limit that to 6.4 billion.

So, they are working on expanding phone numbers to 12 digits, about 1 trillion. There are different ideas about how to do this. They are working on it.

It was Dewey "Pigmeat" Markham. According to the Internets, he was the originator. Sammy/Laugh-In just appropriated it.

Hmmph. Here's one that will blow your mind.

Dewey "Pigmeat" Markham was a Persyn of Color. Yet, as part of his act, he wore blackface makeup (with huge white painted lips).

An African-American wearing blackface. That doesn't compute.

Morning, insomaniacals,

Markham might have originated the bit, but it was Sammy who did it on Laugh-In. Not only do I remember it well -- my classmates were all still howling about it on Tuesday morning -- but I got to see it again on the Decades Channel when they were running the show from the start during the Sniffle Scare.

I am pretty sure that Pigmeat himself appeared on Laugh-In, and did his judge rap. I was watching the show with my folks, and he came on, and my father said, "That's Pigmeat Markham!" He was well-known to my parent's generation, as indeed was Sammy Davis Junior. And they are nowhere near look-alikes.

401 'Tis Monday, which lights fools the way to dusty death!

Okay, it's nowhere near *that* bad. A pleasant 64 F. outdoors, humidity down a fraction, but a noticeable north wind. Time (in a little while, after coffee) for me to change, stretch, and work out.

Yesterday's rain, from seven a.m. until around two p.m., rinsed the yellow dust off my car and everything else, so there's that.

Work today: I'll probably be pitted against The Next Year's Budget as it resists being put to bed. The last time for me, I hope.

402 >> I am pretty sure that Pigmeat himself appeared on Laugh-In, and did his judge rap.

I'm reading on the Internets that Laugh-In did indeed have Pigmeat on at least once to do that bit. I guess it's the least they could do.

403 "Colored people" is bad. "People(s) of Color" is good."

The word "colored" being the first word puts the emphasis on that word implying a second class "person". The other way around puts the emphasis on the word "person" before the color, or so I've seen it explained.

Markham might have done it later on the show. I recall seeing one of his record albums for sale at my local drugstore around that time, '68 to '69, as well as an album by someone called "Aretha Franklin."

407 Trivia: Laugh-In had originally been a one-shot special, the pilot I guess, in the fall of 1967. I recall thinking it was the funniest hour I'd seen on TV in my short life. Then, in January, NBC canceled The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (which just two years back had been the hottest show on TV) and slipped Laugh-In into its time slot on Monday nights. And in the first episode, or the one after they re-ran the pilot, during one of the "party" scenes, we see Leo G. Carroll as U.N.C.L.E.'s Mr. Waverly speaking into the pen communicator. "Come quickly, Mr. Kuryakin. I've found Thrush Headquarters!"

408 I never got to watch Laugh-In until much much later (and by then the humor was mostly gone but a young Goldie Hawn remained). My Boy Scout troop met on Monday nights.

409 What Laugh-In did that no TV series had done before was introduce that quick-cut "blackout" sketch technique that became their trademark. I understand there had been a Broadway musical comedy, Hellzapoppin, that had pioneered the technique decades earlier. The 1940s, maybe? But no TV variety show had done it before. L-I captured the spirit of the "Getting Crazier All The Time" Sixties like nobody else. Ten years before, or even five, it would have been rejected like a bad kidney transplant, and by 1973 it had worn itself out. But Rowan & Martin and their producers were at the right time and place.

Sammy's glass eye just made that "Da Judge" routine.

Fun fact: Sammy lost his left eye on Route 66.

I wonder if he and Peter Falk did anything together. That would've been a hoot.

Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at March 18, 2024 03:48 AM (w6EFb)

411 Looked it up: Hellzapoppin started in 1938 and ran for three years. "The sketches were a smorgasbord of explode-the-fourth-wall nuttiness:... comedy songs; skits abandoned partway through; cameos by audience stooges; an absurdist raffle; and in a trademark stunt, a man who wandered through the theater hawking an ever-larger potted tree".

Which sounds exactly like Laugh-In.

415 Hellzapoppin sketches: "Seeing a painting of a warship, Olsen & Johnson began firing weapons at it until it sank inside the frame. At this point, a soaking wet man in a uniform walked onstage, but was shot to death by the pair because "a captain always goes down with his ship!"

"One gag had a man and his wife arguing continually in a box seat overlooking the stage. After a particularly violent round of insults, they wrestled to the floor and he would pop up and throw his wife (a mannequin) into the downstairs aisle.

". . . an 'escape artist' would be locked into a strait-jacket and promise to escape in seconds. The man, still in the strait-jacket, would appear at odd moments in the show and when the show was over he'd be rolling around the floor in the lobby, still in the strait-jacket."

Sounds familiar . . .
