My guess? It was a 4X4 truck. The box and rear portion of the frame got badly damaged, so the owner put a trailer axle under the rear of the cab. Note there are no brakes on those wheels. There may have been a bet involved.

They use front-wheel‐drive pickups to move seaplanes around. The truck ends at the back of the cab and they have this big fork sticking out the front. The fork has wheels and holds the airplane and the rest of the truck is just extra weight to haul around. That truck looks to me like it was being used for that but was converted back into something to transport people.

I tried to convert mp4 music into mp3 music. I followed all the instructions correctly, and it made it sound like it was underwater. And the way the conversion was structured, I was damn lucky that I happened to have a copy of the original files elsewhere. Pooky has no idea what happened even though he was supervising and wrote it off as my usual warping of electronics.
Plus the layout is clunky and nonintuitive as heck.

So anyway we get to the cemetery and find the gates are locked all around due to the violence in the center of town (not a huge thing for me as that's where my hotel was, why would I go back right away) so THEN we had to walk around the immense cemetery for like an hour to find the main gate and I terrified my Mexican friend as I was sick of being thirsty and walked into a Barrio store to get water. then it actually was kind of cool, Mexican cemeteries are a huge gallery of Folk Art. But then of course he had to go wandering and I was like Dude this smells like bodies.

Ah, thanks. I don't recall attempting to convert media files with VLC, personally. Though I find VLC's clunky interface for *video* files quite endearing, it is pretty shit for music.
I really do like foobar2000 for both music playback and conversion. It's also very customizable.

They said the perp had been sentenced to 16 years for a home invasion and paroled the day before the stabbing. So I'm left not knowing if he had actually been in prison for any of that 16 years or what. If he had been in prison I guess he held a grudge against the girl friend for a long time.

By accident. What ended up happening is, I did some editing/polishing English for a guy in Ex-Yugo and it snowballed from there. One of the things I did was adamantly told the Government of XCountry that their claim of a specific 'atrocity' was false, it was a legit pacification measure by the Army.
There was an uproar about that and it ended in an entire run of books being pulped.

Trying to hang in there. I'm almost to 13 weeks, and Lil Pooky is fine, but there might be complications. Our new OB hasn't heard back from a specialist about an issue, and one of the solutions/mitigations for that issue has to be done between weeks 12 and 14, so... very very soon. I'm trying to stay calm, but with all the artificially and naturally heightened hormones, it's not easy. He shifts around sometimes and I can feel it, which is very comforting.

The preferred engine were the V-12 Rolls Royce Merlin's. The Budweiser team had at least 50 of them in crates at their Seattle boat HQs. Once jet engines became viable the piston Thunder boats period ended. The sound of V-12 maxed out on nitrous doing 200 mph on Lake Washington is something you never forget when compared to the pathetic jet engine woosh. Toss in the days of open cockpits, no seat belts, and boats that often would go airborne and flip over, they were a thing. We lived about 5 miles east of the race course. On race day we hauled the TV outside and turned the sound down and let the boats speak for themselves. It was f'ing glorious.

Boeing rightly deserves a good thrashing, but at the same time how many of these issues (emergency door going bye-bye notwithstanding) are maintenance related? Most of these sound like the maintenance crews are not doing ther fucking jobs. Best example, off the top of my head, is an Alaska Air flight that went for a swim when the tail rudder failed, if I remember correctly, because the maintenance crew wasn't lubricating the system properly. If I also remember correctly management was a root cause.

Older Boeing planes are fine. The 737 Max8 had issues with the computerized stability control, but I think that has been fixed. The 737 Max9 is the one that has had door plugs blow out.
I'd happily ride the older series 737's. they were real tough workhorses.

BREAKING: Per DHS sources to me & @GriffJenkins, the Haitian man arrested for raping a 15 y/o disabled girl at a migrant hotel in Massachusetts Wednesday night came to the U.S. via the Biden admin’s parole program for Haitians, which allowed him to fly into JFK airport in NYC direct from Haiti in June 2023 w/ a 2 year parole grant. We’re told that ICE has now filed a detainer on 26-year-old Cory B. Alvarez with local authorities, & that he had a sponsor listed in New Jersey as part of his parole.
The Biden admin’s controversial CHNV parole program allows up to 30,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans to fly into the U.S. after they’ve supposedly been vetted and have a sponsor in the U.S.
The recipients typically receive two year “humanitarian parole” grants, which allow them to apply for work authorization and live in the U.S.
According to CBP data, at least 138,000 Haitians have been brought to the U.S. since the start of the Biden admin’s program in January 2023.

The Biden admin considers this program a “lawful pathway”, and the recipients bypass the border entirely, flying over it instead. The program is an effort to cut down on high numbers of illegal crossings at the border.
I reached out to CBP & DHS for comment yesterday, and have not heard back yet.

Me too. I grew up around people that designed, engineered, manufactured, and subcontractors who machined their cast parts. That was peak American implemented technology and it was on par with what came acrew years later with computers. We are in a struggle to not lose that and I fear we are losing that greatness. If we do, we may never see it come back for decades, possibly in time measures in centuries.

Problem is, there are so damned many of these 737 Max series in service now, that to ground them all will seriously dent peoples' travel opportunities. I think you'd have to do a rotating grounding. Start with the newest 10% of the fleet, and once those have been vetted, do the next tranche of 10%, and so on.

I raise that general argument with the Communist EV crowd when they are telling how great EVs are. In the Western US, four hours one way is common be it for pleasure, business, personal or otherwise. I also explain that I do those round trips in a day and that an EV is an overnight to a 3 day trip. Response: you don't need to be driving around that much. Evening, Jim! That's a good one, too. I made a start on my sight mount. I am going to form a small box mold from scraps of vinyl flooring, fit it to the rear of the slide, and pack it with fiberglass-filled Bondo resin. That stuff is very strong. Once the casting sets, I will free it from the mold,file and sand it smooth, and fix it to the spare slide with screws. It will have in it a channel, through which I can view the iron sights.

Another fun fact. In real life Andy Griffith was nothing like Andy Taylor (or Matlock). He was a big asshole. A not nice person at all.
Many moons ago, one of my mother's friends and her husband were at some place in NC where Andy Griffith lived. They ran into him. She just had to speak to him. He didn't like it and basically told her to go fuck herself. With prejudice.
That didn't jibe with me at the time, and I figured, hell, maybe Andy was just having a really bad day. You know, lots of fans and tourists bothering him and he just lost it.
Nope, turns out that was who he was. He'd just as soon tell you to go fuck yourself as say hello.

Mahindra has been making Jeep-type vehicles for 60-odd years. They built military Jeeps on the Willys MB pattern under contract. Actual, official Jeeps, for the Indian Army. And they kept on building similar vehicles for the civvy market, and sold some here. Jeep complained about their use of the vertical-slat grill, so they changed it. Style-wise, other than the grill, the Roxor is pretty faithful to the plan and purpose of the original Jeep. They are sold in the USA as a road-legal UTV.
