Evening and morning to all the far-flung, lonely, bitterly cold outposts throughout the Solar System! (Uh, you guys on Europa, you do know how to turn the environmental controls to "heat," don't you?)
'Tis Thursday. Not quite the consummation devoutly to be wished, but close. I've got 67 F. here, and looking at a 40% chance of rain, 60% tomorrow. Better on Saturday, and then a big chance of wet stuff (no, not snow) on Sunday. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at March 14, 2024 04:12 AM (omVj0) 6

They held a fine SF fan convention called CoastCon every year March there, too. Come to think of it, well before that, Mrs. W. No. 1 and I used to attend CoastCon. Part of how I made No. 2's acquaintance. When I was first there after Katrina, the town of Waveland was pretty much gone; so were a lot of the businesses like IHOP. Running out of wandering 80 year old grandma's that were in the vicinity of the Capitol during 1/6, the vaunted, dutiful, members of the FBI and DHS go after militant gamers!! Sounds like they are going after games that let you nuke DC or raze an FBI office. I guess I can be comforted in the fact that the FBI and DHS are large, incompetent, bloated, bureaucracies and this will go nowhere. Crappy day yesterday. The cash buyer we had for the house decided to cancel the contract due to "something" from the inspection. -- I've learned something over the last couple of decades. Southerners buy 10 acres in the South and look at it and say "Perfect. That's beautiful." Yankees will move to the exact same place and look at the 10 acres they just bought and say "This needs to be a subdivision and I'm going to build a house on every square foot that I can fit one." I have a young nephew and his wife who insisted that their first home be new. No old house for them, all the latest in everything. I had another nephew who did that and until he sold it, nothing but problems. The driveway was paved with no underlaying prep. Just asphalt on top of dirt. Same with a crack that developed between the garage and main house. and all the concrete sidewalks were like the driveway, just concrete over dirt. Water ran into the basement because the slope was graded toward the house instead of away..Now he knows what to look for, and find a builder who has been in business more that two months and then disappears.

When I was up there this summer, I'd just sit on the porch and watch the Amish do their thing with 18th-19th Century farm equipment. It was interesting.
