Has Ireland Passed Peak Woke? Public Rejects Two Measures to "Modernize" the Constitution
Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar has conceded defeat in the vote over two constitutional amendments that would have broadened the definition of family and removed language about a woman's role at home. Vote tallies Saturday showed both referendums failing in a blow to his government. Varadkar had pushed the vote to enshrine gender equality in the constitution and scheduled the vote on Friday, International Women's Day. Opponents argued that the wording of the changes was poorly thought out and some voters said they feared changes would lead to unintended consequences. Varadkar, who pushed the vote to enshrine gender equality in the constitution by removing "very old-fashioned language" and trying to recognize the realities of modern family life, said it was clear the amendments were "defeated comprehensively on a respectable turnout." ... The election was viewed as part of Ireland's evolution from a conservative, overwhelmingly Roman Catholic country in which divorce and abortion were illegal, to an increasingly diverse and socially liberal society. The proportion of residents who are Catholic fell from 94.9% in 1961 to 69% in 2022, according to the Central Statistics Office. ... The first question dealt with a part of the constitution that pledges to protect the family as the primary unit of society. Voters were asked to remove a reference to marriage as the basis "on which the family is founded" and replace it with a clause that said families can be founded "on marriage or on other durable relationships." If passed, it would have been the constitution's 39th amendment. A proposed 40th amendment would have removed a reference that a woman's place in the home offered a common good that could not be provided by the state and delete a statement that said mothers shouldn't be obligated to work out of economic necessity if it would neglect their duties at home. It would have added a clause saying the state will strive to support "the provision of care by members of a family to one another."I would say this rejection is based 50% on the amendments themselves, and 50% based on people finally revolting to this constant "Year Zero" disruption of society. - In the past year or so the Irish government came under intense pressure from the public over a variety of controversial issues, such as their liberal immigration policies and highly contentious hate speech bill.
- To take the pressure of themselves, they thought "Ireland is a progressive country, and we've won progressive referendums in the past. So let's have a vote to change the Constitutional amendment about the State protecting the rights of mothers to stay at home, and broaden the definition of the family while we're at it. We'll say the current text is sexist and outdated, and hold it on International Women's Day, so it'll be a nice easy win, and will take the heat off us on the immigration thing."

That was part of it, but only a part. If it had been entirely Floyd, Year Zero would not be a global phenomenon.
Floyd was an adjunct. I agree with you on the timing, but I think the deliberate, coordinated global destruction of the COVID response and the associated purge of every prior norm and expectation was the "Year Zero" event. The established powers tore down every structure and replaced them with new ones more conducive to their own ambitions. They had been laying groundwork for decades - from the "march through the institutions" to self-serving bureaucratic power to financial fraud and various other things - and did not miss the opportunity to strike hard and bring about the conversion.
They immanentized the eschaton. They ended the world and started a new one. 2020 was absolutely Year Zero, but it was done under the auspices of COVID. George Floyd was an extraordinarily useful side show that had way, way more staying power than I think they anticipated.

Red C is the pet project of one Richard Colwell who made his money in financial markets but seems to be pretty leftwing. I assume the fix was in on selecting who the citizens would be on this assembly.

Demystifying has two ends:
1. Nihilism
2. A weak sense of "knowing" which just skirts nihilism.
It substitutes a thin sense of "knowing", like how Marx "knew" History.
The idea, established by NO history (which the Modernist proudly hates), is that the cause of all our problems is our disagreements based on confusion and inaccuracy of terms.
While confusion of terms HAS caused uncountable disputes and IS the source of disagreement. It pretends that the absence of this condition is the absence of the consequence.
Thus it peddles the panacea of "rational thought". While I am big on rational thought, I don't know that it is the whole pie and not just and important piece

As somebody who has spent many adult years painstakingly "constructing" my world view (or even "my methodology"), my faith helps me understand how far I am from where I hoped to go with it.
It's amazing that people can still say that "Science answers questions", when the questions most important to Man from his beginnings are simply dismissed as misapplications and the formal systems are more "the Truth". Science has a much bigger history of invalidating questions than it does of answering them.
Science is an unparalleled tool in my consideration. I don't castigate Science. But Science only models what can be expressed in a formal system. To say that what shines the brightest light on experience reveals what is only in experience is like the guy looking for his car keys under street lights because the light is better than where he dropped them.

Who the hell has time to see a lot of podcasts?
I swear, it would take a lifetime to watch half the worthwhile podcasts and youtubes produced in a day. I think a lot of these guys spend 8 to 10 hours a day **producing** content.
Do they each have a separate audience? Or are people devoting their lives to scanning multiple podcasts? This seems very inefficient.
I wish the world would just stop for month or two so I can catch up.

I imagine it's like the radio, with people just listening when convenient. Though I see a lot of people with earpods these days, so maybe they also listen to a lot while working.
