Woke Magazine Demands to Know: Where Are the Black People in Shogun?

I thought this headline must be a troll, but apparently the writer is quite serious(ly retarded).

There's a new drama that looks pretty awesome called "Shogun" which is about Japan in the 1600s. So, of course, woke journalists are asking the real question, "Where are all the black people?"
Okay, I'm going to be fair to this journalist and look at the story. Giving him the click he so desperately longs for, to hear out the argument.

According to multiple sources, one of the early real-life Shoguns, Sakanoue no Tamuramaro (758 - 811), was Black, though denied by others. There is a consensus he was something other than pure Japanese, and he is often considered descended from the Ainu, the darker-skinned indigenous people of northern Japan who were subjected to forced assimilation and colonization.

Even if that were true, the Ainu are not "black people" as people use that term, and as this asinine fake "journalist" wants to suggest. They are merely darker-skinned Asians. We see darker-skinned Asians all the time. They are not "black people."

His entire argument to include black people in a show about Japan is that there MAY HAVE been ONE black person who was a Shogun. Although no one knows if he was really black or if he was just dark-skinned. But since a black person MAY have existed in 1600 Japan they HAVE to be inserted into the show.
Because he's just trying to be historically accurate, after all.

Historian Mark Hyman described a statue in honor of Tamuramaro in his book.
"As seen in the temple where he has was honored, Maro's statue was taller than his fellow contributors," wrote Hyman "His hair was curly and tight; his eyes were large and wide-set and brown. His nostrils were flared, his forehead wider, his jaws thick and slightly protruded."

That's not a Maro statue, that's a JESUS statue! At least according to the Black Israelites.

Umm, am I crazy, or is assuming that this describes a black man incredibly racist according to the woke Left? Like, saying he had curly hair and big nostrils so he's obviously black seems SUPER sketchy.

Huh. Setting aside the judgement and assertions here, this is very interesting.

The equivalence being drawn is fascinating. If the Ainu are "black," then this is simultaneously both Ainu erasure *and* black erasure, all in one simple sentence. The Ainu don't exist because they're black, and the blacks don't exist because all non-whites (or in this case, non-Japanese, but either way boiled down to "non-dominant in the territory, unless that territory is Africa) are black, making the distinction meaningless.

I don't think these people are very smart.

That's a pretty damn big "maybe" in the first place. Where the hell would he have come from, and how would he have gotten to Japan? The African slave trade wasn't big in the Orient, and the Japanese were heavily cloistered and didn't much exploring beyond their shores (other than the occasional war with its neighbors).

Therapy is the last thing these people need. All that will do is accelerate the feedback loop.

What they need is to detox. Get offline for six months. Go outside. Join a bowling league or play some softball or some other activity with real people. Maybe - though this is a longshot - consider going to church or something, even try a social club.

The cure for this is to de-atomize, engage with real people for a bit, and come back from the anomie that perpetuates and compounds their madness.

Digital detox and reality, not therapy, is probably a much better choice.

Mostly, I think the confusion is over the word "black".

A sort of cultural imperialism with regard to the meaning of "black" from Leftards.

In the olden days, people who were darker than average were often referred to as "black" or "brown".

As in the "Black Irish", or Black Jack So and So.

I could be wrong but I'm willing to bet that there definitely wasn't a "black" as in African Shogun.

It's pretty stupid on the face of it if you read any Japanese history and see just how difficult it was to become Shogun.

Oh, I've tried to explain many times that yes, they supplied those dumb kids with guns and grenades but never in a million, bazillion years thought they'd actually kill the Archduke.
They've spent many years trying to hide the Serbian Royal Officer involvement in no small part because it was so stupefyingly unexpected.

Bush I was a shitty president who also instigated the useless Somalia and Gulf War I peace without victory. He trampled on gun rights, propped up the corrupt PRI for NAFTA purposes, etc. Domestically, he was even worse by raising taxes in a recession, kowtowing to the NE Republicans to put an ill suited Souter on the bench, etc.

Austria "pounced" on the incident to deliver an extremely harsh ultimatum demanding investigation of the incident. To many nation's surprise, Serbia agreed to just about all of the conditions. Unphazed by this Austria went to war anyway, then lost the initial invasion of Serbia in WWI.

Thanks for the info on Samurai / Japanese fighters in Mexico and the Spanish America's.
I had only known of them serving as guards for the Portuguese trading ports / stations in East Africa, after the establishment of the Shogunate in the later 1600s. These were the Ronin and the farmer / peasant fighters who were disarmed by the "Great Sword Hunt".
The farmer / footsoldiers were called "Ashigaru". In the East African common language, Swahili, a soldier is called an "Askari".
I would think that for an African tribal warrior, running up against a Samurai would be a memorable event, for the few survivors.

Now, I don't consider him the worst president we ever had. Some things he did right. The push for German unification is one. Yes, he gave us that nitwit Souter on the Court. But he also appointed Clarence Thomas to the Court. Yeah, Gulf War I didn't end to a lot of people's liking, but the United States gained a lot of diplomatic capital from it and other events, squandered by the next clown. At heart he was a blue blood country club Republican and that wasn't good. But even so he was better than the guy people insisted had to take his place.
