At the local dog park, a guy used to bring his timber wolf. It was massive. It walked so smoothly it looked like it was gliding. Before you knew it, it had crossed the huge park. There was no doubt who was the alpha when it showed up. Every dog no matter the size got behind it and just followed it.
City forced him to move out of the city and banned the wolf from the dog park. Posted by: Beartooth at March 15, 2024 08:07 PM (LjgPm) 112

It's gone to sh*t because McDonnell Douglas replaced Boeing's engineering culture with their bean-counter one.
Posted by: Duncanthrax Well, that's the standard excuse that people at Boeing push, but the Merger was in 1997. Boeing has had plenty of time to fix their management, but this kind of thinking perpetuates itself. It's not just their commercial airliners (although a lot of this is because the airlines have gone woke and cheap on their mechanics). Starliner is way late for delivery. Bad engineering and manufacturing. And even worse is the SLS booster, which is also way late and way over budget. But the "connected" people in the Senate will still be pushing the overpriced dinosaur in the next decade. Posted by: A face in the crowd..... at March 15, 2024 08:45 PM (tjZg/) 182

"These are CGI, but well-done. Various relaxing scenes of downpours. If these were longer they'd be good to fall asleep to."
In the late 70s I read a short story about the last human played Super Bowl, in 2002 or thereabouts. The human player NFL had gone bankrupt because everyone was watching games on TV generated by AI/CGI, of a full season of a league made-up of top teams from past. The historical teams in the league changed every year. I think the AI Supe in the story that year was the '75 Steelers vs the '61 Packers. The human player Supe was the Jets vs a team I've forgotten. The AI/CGI league's Super Bowl was televised the same time as the last NFL Supe. Instant viewer tallies showed a vast majority of viewers were watching the computer league's Supe. We are not yet at the point imagined in that short story but every year we get much, much closer. Posted by: Gref at March 15, 2024 09:15 PM (5fDan) 223

But, one of the reasons is, I think, he had to have (I've said this before) answers for many years and now can't turn it off. One of the problems with ramrods is the authority, which derives from total confidence.
I lost that confidence in my absolute correctness in a gunfight in the dark in Bosnia. I cannot believe I am right about anything, anymore. I have to examine not only what other people do, but myself, minutely and ongoing. I lost that confidence and I know a lot of other men do not respect me for that. Posted by: Gref That was established after the crash of a Swissair flight from New York. 152 Has it ever happened before in American politics where members of a political party run to whatever microphone they can and announce that they will NOT endorse the party's nominee. And some even go so far as to campaign against them?
Former Vice President Mike Pence said Friday he wouldn’t endorse Donald Trump for president, saying the presumptive GOP nominee is “pursuing and articulating an agenda that is at odds with the conservative agenda that we governed on during our four years.” Mike Dense has a point. The GOP is dead as a doornail. Trump and MAGA are wearing its skin suit. Posted by: AlaBAMA' I found his role off-putting, but then they wrapped Charlotte Rampling in some Joann Fabric confection so what do I know. I also, the day before going to see Dune 2, watched a Walken movie I'd never even heard of, 1987s 'Deadline', which is TERRIBLE except for his performance. Javier Bardem seems to be trying to salvage his manhood. Zendaya is hot. I would hit that in a tent. Rebecca Ferguson is perfect. But not explored enough as she's a manipulating bitch. I am pretty sure I have seen Parmelee wrenches being used, typically to assemble and disassemble expensive oilfield tools, such as logging tools and DST tools, but I did not know them by that name, and my work never involved the use of such. They look like they would do fine for repetitious work on the same set of parts without marring the parts. But since they have to be sized exactly to the part that they grip, it would become very expensive (and bulky) to have them for all work involving round pipe. Regular old pipe wrenches are what one usually sees in the toolhouse on a rig. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at March 15, 2024 09:38 PM (tkR6S) 245
