Tennessee Mulls Bill Which Would Give Neighboring DA's a "Second Opinion" on Decisions to Prosecute Criminals, If a Woke DA Decides to Let Them Go

In the early 20th century, violent invasionary gangs from Mexico would ride north into the US to pillage and kill its citizens, before fleeing again back beyond the border. The Mexican government would not punish them.

Eventually the US mounted the "Punitive Expedition" to stop this.

Woke DAs are now similarly granting violent bandits sanctuary in their jurisdictions.

At least one Tennessee senator says, "Enough."

-- FOX13 is getting more clarity about a bill filed by a state senator from Memphis.
Monday, Senator Brent Taylor filed the DA Second Opinion Act. The bill would allow law enforcement agencies request a district attorney from another county come in and investigate crimes that Shelby County DA Steve Mulroy chose not to prosecute.
There is a catch: Sen. Taylor told FOX13 there has to be a single element that connects the two counties together.
"That neighboring district attorney could prosecute not only that single element that exists in their county, but they can also prosecute any crimes in that nexus all the way into Shelby County," said Taylor.
Sen. Taylor gave as an example, someone stealing a gun in Shelby County and then committing other crimes in another county with that stolen gun.
"That district attorney could prosecute that stolen firearm, possession of a stolen firearm and any of the other crimes that occurred with that firearm even though it's in Shelby County," said Taylor.

My son went there last summer to visit his girlfriend, who had an internship there. I had the same feeling as you. But apparently she was in a relatively nice area. They had a nice time and my son didn't have any issues, and neither experienced or witnessed anything untoward, aside from the usual panhandling that goes on in every city.

Has nothing to do with double jeopardy. That is being tried twice for the same offense. Not the same thing as what is proposed here. Article VI of the state constitution which is what governs county officials does not seem to have a direct bar on this particular law at first glance. You have the right to a jury of your peers but not a judge, prosecutor, or police from your own county. The state legislature itself in Article VI has the sole power over jurisdiction and so a law altering such to grant long arm jurisdiction to surrounding counties might very well fly.
