Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Saturday Overnight Open Thread (3/16/24)Donald Trump, George Bush, and Joe Biden were set to face a firing squad in a Central American country. Donald Trump was the first one placed against the wall and just before the order was given, he yelled out, "Earthquake!" The firing squad fell into a panic and Donald Trump jumped over the wall and escaped during the confusion. George Bush was the second one placed against the wall. The squad was reassembled, and George pondered what he had just witnessed. Again, before the order was given George yelled out, "Tornado!" Again, the squad fell apart and George slipped over the wall. The last person, Joe Biden, was placed against the wall. He was thinking, I see the pattern here, just scream out something about a disaster and hop over the wall. He confidently refused the blindfold as the firing squad was reassembled As the rifles were raised in his direction, he grinned from ear to ear and yelled, "Fire!" And this story my friends reflects the true intelligence of the guy now living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW. What is a Saturday Night ONT without a story or two from The Daily Star? The first story falls under the category of The ONT Is Always Looking Out For You 'EttesTM Hygiene expert explains why some women get boob acne – and how to get rid of it Our next story just boggles my mind. I remember a first date was a meal and/or a movie. Perhaps a drink. 'I gave Hinge match an X-rated proposition on first date – and he agreed' Every ONT I draft, I learn something new. Sad news today. RIP Shigeichi Negishi. So you ask, who is Shigeichi Negishi? He is the inventor of karaoke. The Tokyo-based entrepreneur automated the lyrics to popular Japanese pop songs in 1967 through his legendary invention the "Sparko Box". The idea of a device you could sing along with came to him when he was an engineer at an electronics company - a place where he would frequently sing around his colleagues. He said the Sparko Box was born after an employee teased him for his singing ability. Negishi took the comment in his stride before declaring he’d sound better with a backing track to sing along with. To begin with the clever new music device simply used a microphone, speaker, and tape deck to play the tune.As much as I love music. I can't carry a tune worth a dam. And there is not enough gin in the world to make me do this.......... How about some humor on a Saturday night. Norm MacDonald looks at George Washington and the cherry tree story. Single guy trying to hook up with single gal. Do you remember when Rod Stewart was a real rock 'n roller? Here is some proof. We had about 12 hours of daylight on the nose, a few seconds more. Rate of change of daylight is nearing maximum, at 2:12 minutes per day for us at 35N. Meanwhile, in Ukraine:
1. The Ukrainians, having seen their ground attacks across the border in the northeast get crushed, have switched to launching Czech-made rockets into the nearest Russian city. While they may intend to demoralize the Russians, I suspect the only result will be a sudden "accidental" fire and explosion at the Czech rocket factory. 2. The Russians continue their slow grind forward in multiple areas, taking one potato field and farming village at a time. 3. For the second time, the Russians used a missile strike in Odessa to take out a military command meeting, this time getting several high ranking Ukrainian officers and a dozen foreign advisors. Aside from potentially disrupting the expected amphibious assault across the Dneiper River, this is a pretty obvious message to the French about sending troops. There is a rough rule about "-vull" vs. "-ville". In native here, upstate SC, we say "Green-vull". But for my little town of Simpsonville, we say simpson-ville. I remember being amused at how much she claimed she faced discrimination for being a "half breed" in her early career and I have to laugh.
What ever minimal impact being half Indian had on her left, being attractive earned her a slot in the music industry. Not that she had no talent but if SHE looked like Sonny Bono she would have never had a career to begin with. Posted by: 18-1 at March 16, 2024 10:38 PM (ibTVg) ++++ She's not half Indian. Cher's mother, Georgia Holt, with whom Cher was close, always stated that she (Holt) was part Cherokee, fwiw.
Cher looked like she might be part American Indian when she was younger, imo. (Now she looks part Martian.) I don't discount Cher's claim to Cherokee ancestry. That Gregg Allman lived to be 69 is certainly counterintuitive. And now for something completely different... I'm afraid that the GOP circular firing squad in Ohio, in the Senate primary, may result in the DEMs holding that seat-- in what is now a deep red state. That would be fn tragic. Posted by: gourmand du jour at March 16, 2024 11:37 PM (MeG8a) Many years ago, a friend of mine, who we shall call Oink had a bagpipe mime he would do, enlisting the help of his dog, Scamp, a small black Cocker Spaniel. Oink was a big guy, looked a little like John Candy (but is still alive and well). He would scoop Scamp up in the crook of his left arm, head upward, and grab one of Scamp's hind paws in his right hand, and bring his right hand up to his mouth, and mime blowing into the dog's leg, puffing out his cheeks and bugging out his eyes, while giving Scamp a little squeeze. Scamp would obligingly let out with a loud howl, the pitch varying with the squeeze. (He was really not hurting the dog at all.) The effect was amazingly realistic. The establishment/Deep State panicked, lost their fuckin' minds over this thing. And the reason was *they were culpable*, with their Frankenstein Gain of Function shit outsourced to the Wuhan lab and all that. That was the main reason for the freak out. It's like, well, you remember when you were a kid and you broke, messed up, or fucked something up? You didn't want your parents to find out, so you tried to "fix it". And by trying to fix it, you fucked things up even worse? That's what they did. Now, the money angle. You had a bunch of people's eye's going ca-ching, ca-ching, over the money they could make with that freak out. That explains what happened, the best I can figure, to first order. Now, add in Klaus Schwab and the WEF's plans for the future, and they saw an opportunity as well. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at March 17, 2024 01:02 AM (w6EFb) 328

Never let a crises go to waste. They used Covid to absolutely destroy any vestige of actual Natural Rights in this country. Masks. Distancing. Closing schools and businesses... even churches. They used it as an excuse to 'convince' people to give up their freedom... and sadly... for most... it worked. Posted by: Romeo13 at March 17, 2024 01:06 AM (xaFKb) 329

But did they REALLY suffer?
I think so. On our way to cook for a club dinner (and we'd have to eat last), wife and I thought we'd have a quick sandwich on the way to tide us over. I told her a joke or two about reports of their incredible high prices, but she said she'd stopped with her mother for a "bundle" a couple of weeks ago, and it was only about $3. So we got in the drive-thru line. It was creeping. When she tried to order, AI would not recognize a "bundle" as not being breakfast. We were about to give up and pull out when the "asstmgr" overrode the order program, took our simple order, and McSplained that nobody could figure out why the ordering software was so wacky today. So they had to use up their asstmgr's whole work day to ride herd on the new labor-saving device. It's Lent, so it seemed...fishy. Posted by: Way, Way Downriver at March 17, 2024 01:28 AM (zdLoL) 332

LOL Had a incident at Carl's Jr where I was trying to order the special (we had coupons, just about the only time we go to such places) and the AI kept getting my order wrong, and when it was done F'ing up my order, the price was 3x or 4x of what it was SUPPOSED Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at March 17, 2024 01:36 AM (ynpvh) 333
...to be, we went to the front window and did the order there with the coupons. Some time-and-labor-saving device. Was much better a few weeks later, but still got the price wrong.

They had a "truffle" burger that was pretty good too. Too pricey for me most of the time. I made pork ribs the other day. 10lbs from Costco business. Put a rub on it, let it rest in fridge, cooked it. Came out pretty good. Food for me and the boys. Lots more food for the same price than if I'd gone to a burger place.
