Outdoor outfitter The North Face is offering customers a 20% discount if they complete and pass a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) course.
The company launched the course, titled "Allyship in the Outdoors," to teach customers about racial disparities in outdoor activities. It is roughly an hour long and is intended for people who work in the outdoor industry. Those who take the course from North America are ineligible for the discount, however.

Boy I guess I should take that course! Everytime I go walking in the woods I'm assailed by leftwing media propaganda pieces telling me that walking in the woods is white privilege and that I have to do more to make the fucking forest a "more welcoming place" for black people.

Weird, because when I was in school, I was a block from that public basketball court in New York City I tried to play there, but the court was occupied almost 24 hours a day, and the "rule" -- imposed undemocratically by the gang of people who controlled the court -- was that you had to bet the current player a minimum bet (like $10) just for the right to even enter the court.

There were zero efforts to make the court "more welcoming" to me, and I never got to play there, despite it being a block away.

But oh yeah, let me get right on hanging "In this woods we believe Black Lives Matter..." posters on fucking trees.

"At The North Face, we believe in the power of exploration. As individuals, professionals and companies who share a love for the outdoors and exploration, we also have a responsibility to support spaces where everyone feels like they belong," the course description says. "This 1-hour digital course is designed to foster a deeper understanding of the unique challenges that people of colour face when accessing the outdoors."

Let me tell you about the challenges non-six-foot white guys face when attempting to access a public basketball court in New York City. We're required to pay $10 just to get on to the court by people who don't own it.

"The course focuses on perspective of race and racism in Europe, and we acknowledge that the experiences of people of colour around the globe differs."

Wow, I have to learn about "people of colour" "around the globe," now.

Weirdly enough, I've seen documentaries about the bushmen of the Kalahari. They don't seem to have any problems "accessing the outdoors."

"It will also provide training and resources, through 4 interactive modules, to help you be a better ally and to make the outdoors a safer and more welcoming place for everyone," the website adds.

Oh great, self-quizzes about my privilege and "allyship."

The course walks through four modules on various aspects of racial diversity in outdoor activities, including lessons on "privilege" and how to handle accusations of being "woke." The modules also include portions on what events, such as the death of George Floyd, can mean.

True fact, George Floyd was killed attempting to build a lean-to.

"Privilege can give us access to the outdoors -- that means some people can enjoy advantages that they inherit from birth and/or accumulate over time," the course says. "In this particular context, we refer to 'white privilege' meaning that your race and skin colour can give you access to the outdoors when others can be excluded because of historic, enduring racism and biases."
The course says inequality in the racial makeup of those who participate in outdoor activities proves that barriers exist for minorities.

So that basketball court... would you be surprised to hear that it was 90% used by black guys who didn't even live in the neighborhood?

But fuck me, right?

"There is no explicit policy that excludes people from the outdoors yet there are few people of colour. While there is no intent to exclude, the system in itself creates those barriers to participation," the training says.

Those who want to get the 20%-off voucher must answer a series of multiple-choice questions on "allyship," "privilege," and other DEI topics correctly.

I've got an even better idea: I will never buy a product from you again. That's a 100% discount.

I've seen in my area a whole bunch of programs to get urban yutes out into the sticks to go hiking but...generally those are particularly highly valued by said yutes who based on their own choices of activity would rather play an sport like b-ball or football, either organized or pickup.

Tell me you've never been out of a city without telling me you've never been out of the city.

This "black folks are afraid of the woods because of whitey" thing is not a new meme, and it's always been stupid. Go to state or national parks, especially in the south, and you will find plenty of black folks taking advantage of those places. Do inner-city blacks go into the woods? I dunno. That's not my milieu. But outside of the inner cities, blacks aren't afraid of the damn woods, and nobody in his right mind thinks that the Dread White Man is going to get butt-hurt if a black person shows up on the trail.

This whole line - the "blacks are afraid of the outside" line - is one of the most absurdly racist and preposterous things I've ever seen. People have preferences. City people tend to - in a shock to nobody - not go hiking so much. Astonishing, I know.

Watching preview after preview, ad after ad (Disney must be hurting). It was all stupid white people, if there were any white people, in the ad or preview. Prove it. Seriously, prove it. How does my being white give me greater "access" to the outdoors? The impediment - if there is one beyond individual taste and preference - isn't racial. It could be related to money - you have to get to the woods (travel costs) and you have to be prepared when you get there (equipment/outfitting costs) - but The North Face would just *hate* to try to tackle that problem...

Isolate and wreck a target.

One of the benefits of the current environment where every single major company is woke as fuck is that it's a target-rich environment. Who cares about REI? They're not in the zeitgeist at the moment. Wreck The North Face and call it a win. There will be opportunities to rinse and repeat later.

They key is not to spread yourself too thin. Alinksy rules: isolate and destroy a single target. Do that enough times and in enough industries and the survivors might start to get the message. It doesn't matter that *all* major brewers are woke, just do permanent damage to AB-InBev. Make them a lesson. There will be opportunities later to do it again.

I got a south Korean military police jacket once for fifteen bucks at a surplus store. Outside shell was tough but soft green cotton denim, and it was insulated with something, with a quilted satin-like liner. Zipper closure, plus a couple of buttons, and large pockets. Very warm, completely soft, and made no sound when I moved in it. Zipper failed, and I burned a hole in it welding, but I stall have it.

Is the daughter of one of hollywoods most famous armorers, grew up on sets from the age of 5yo or so. Her father turned this movie down, as did the "master armorer" she had been working as an assistant to...She was then offered the job, her 1st if I remember as "Head" armorer.(I'm sommat biased but danger hair colored, pudgy, female pot smokers that date mainly women are not expected to be the 1st person you call for this sort of thing) The main reason other armorers turned it down was it's remote location, short/accelerated filming schedule...AND...That fuckin Baldwin asshole...that NOBODY wants to work with, let alone work FOR. Most of the crew had walked off the set earlier that morning because of HIM.
Part of the problem was that he and the directors/producers allowed and encouraged "Plinking" at a makeshift range on the set, and would regularly grab guns out of her trailer to shoot whenever they wanted, often without telling her, or signing them in/out. She was toooooo young and meek to put her foot down as a "Professional" on her 1st BIG job.

555 I have a 35yo Barbour coat, just now getting that "Oh so trendy thoroughly broke in look" and not from lack of wearing it in the woods and fields, the damn things LAST. A 30yearold dark brown Carhart "Detroit" jacket, nearly worn out(Cuffs, collar and elbows tattered), though the bibs I bought at the same time have another 30 years left. And a 10 year old carhart barn coat, just entering it's prime.
Oh, also hanging on the mudroom wall, a Filson game coat, and tincloth briarproof "breeches", at LEAST 70 years old,(They were my dads when he was in college) and still toooo stiff to wear. I checked "Used/Vintage" clothing prices for them and it is in the $200-400 range.
