They have a long history, I'm told. Apparently Tucker went on the Daily Show some years back, and the narrative at the time was Stewart made him look bad. No doubt in part with editing.

It's hard to judge how much of the news coming out of the country is accurate (aside from government reports that make it look bad; for instance, the government report that there were 200 fires in one particular province was probably accurate). Maybe in still pictures, but I get up every morning and watch videos of the line of 'migrants' waiting in line, and it is 90% males. Someone walks down the line with a Go-Pro attached and it is nothing but males of 'military age'. Sometimes nothing but Chinese males. Sometimes nothing but Middle Eastern males. Sometimes nothing but South/Central American males.
But females are the definite outlier. The women in this country need to understand this. Local tacqueria's and street taco vendors in Texas, New Mexico, or Arizona are some of the tastiest food around. Now if you're talking about traditional working class mexican food, well that's basically tamales, frijoles, and rice with spicy sauce poured on it. Still better than old time English or Euro working class food, which was mostly awful.

For Cantonese food, yes. The American version is much better. The authentic is very bland and favors weird ingredients like bird snot (not making this up), bird feet, duck tongue (also not making that up).
But that's not true of all Chinese cuisines. Authentic Szechuan is very good. Better than the Americanized version. Hunan is good also.

Most "AUTHENTIC" food is crap.
The reason for spices, long cooking times, etc... is to cover for crap ingredients.
There's nothing wrong with taking crap ingredients and making them appetizing (it's arguably the point of cooking).
But quality ingredients don't need much in the way of spices/cooking to make them taste good.
So, bringing "AUTHENTIC!!" cooking to the US is always going to improve it because Americans (generally) are going to demand quality ingredients.
(I can still order tripe for my pho. I don't, because that's nasty, but it's available!)

Yes - I was in Guadalaja for a month once, and had no troubles with food but also followed those guideline - no ice especially! And always drink from a bottle or a can. Some of the best restaurants will let you see them cook your food, one made the salsa at the table right in front of us.
even in the US - a few years ago a local study was done in Houston about salsa bowls left sitting at tables, that people dip chips in, and it found that well over 50% of them had dangerous levels of e-coli incubating in them.

High-end Mexican cuisine is good but that's because it's high-end. Some of the stuff from the interior is excellent. But Tex-Mex or the like beats whatever your lawn jockeys are eating by a country mile. That stuff is trash. Ironically, many Mexicans and Mexican restaurants could not make a decent taco if their immigration status was on the line.

Having been out in some of the smaller outlying towns in Sonora many years ago, before they became infested with Cartel gunmen, I can say that I personally discovered the REAL reason for hot, hot, spicy spicy sauces: it's to cover up the fact that most of the meat has been sitting, unrefrigerated, out on the counter for about 2 weeks. I really was served some that was turning green on the edges once. (to answer the obvious question, it all depends on how hungry you are)

So here's what happened. During the war they rationed and there was no butter, no eggs, no cheese, no beef, no pork.
They liked rationing so much they kept at it after the war. The gov. sent out recipes of how to make things like cake using carrots instead of sugar, and how long to boil that leather before it is edible.
And it seems the whole country forgot was good food tasted like. Prewar brit food was not so bad. Most working class European food included a lot of cheese, bread, butter, sausage or cured meats, and beer. Any country with a lot of cows eats good. That is Asia's main problem - it is no country for cows.

That's what happened at Kent State. Idiot Governor sent in some fairly green Guards and had them stand around and be yelled at and stuff thrown at them for a bit, then they moved to a new place for the same thing. They shot some tear gas, some of which was thrown back and got more annoyed. Then they marched back, and were followed until at one point a part of the crown surged a bit at the troops and they opened fire.
