Senate Sources Tell Sean Davis: Mitch McConnell Isn't Really Stepping Down. There's a Revolt Brewing and He'll Likely Be Removed from Leadership, So He's Saying He's "Stepping Down" To Stop the Vote to Remove Him.

And he'll un-step down when he senses that the current controversy has passed.

So this explains why he's not ragequitting the Senate -- this is all a ploy. Just like Kevin McCarthy stuck around in the House just to repeatedly attempt to be re-elected Speaker, and only finally left after a popular consensus choice had been elected to replace him.

This is a fake announcement of stepping down -- he'll be continuing to scheme to remain in power.

He just doesn't want to be formally evicted from leadership.

Sean Davis
@seanmdav

Senate insiders tell me McConnell's surprise announcement is a desperate move to retain his grip on power, as his support within the conference is cratering following his disastrous attempt to rubber stamp Biden's open borders amnesty policy. Rather than face a formal vote of removal, McConnell announced his plan to resign the leadership post in November. Career Senate staff tell me momentum was building within the Senate GOP to formally oust McConnell as leader.

"Even a growing number of moderates were angry at the chaos he was sowing in the conference," one senior Senate GOP aide told me.

An open rebellion against McConnell was in the works due to his "repeated sabotage of Republican priorities and border inaction," the aide said.

Others told me McConnell's move was entirely cynical, and an attempt to cling to power for another 8 months.

He's just trying to get ahead of "a possible defenestration," one aide said.

More Luciferian scheming from this evil vampire.

Greg Price
@greg_price11

I know I may ask for a lot out of our Republican leaders but I will personally not be looking past Mitch McConnell's career of handing Democrats policy victories, his recent escapade of breaking apart the Senate GOP Conference and legislating open borders to send his precious billions to Ukraine, just because he did his job on the Supreme Court eight years ago.

It's the most DC Republican thing ever when they demand endless praise for a politician because of one good thing he did nearly a decade ago even though he has by any metric spent the last three years being Joe Biden's best ally in Congress.

Shawn Fleetwood writes at The Federalist that none of McConnell's traitorous henchmen, who repeatedly, defiantly put Ukraine's and China's interests above the US's, can be allowed to succeed him.

(Assuming he actually ever gives up power, which I definitely do not assume.)

While backlash from Republican voters and the caucus' more conservative senators ultimately killed the proposal, the finished product proved McConnell never had any interest in securing America's southern border. The only thing that matters to him and Senate GOP leadership is bankrolling Ukraine's forever war against Russia.

This sentiment was further confirmed after the bill's defeat, in which McConnell and Senate leadership rammed through a $95 billion foreign spending package that included (mostly) funding for Ukraine and zero provisions addressing America's ongoing border invasion. Of course, the Kentucky Republican had help pushing the measure across the finish line. Despite objections from numerous GOP senators, the bill passed 70-29, with 22 Republicans voting "yea."

Among those who supported its passage are GOP Sens. John Thune of South Dakota and John Cornyn of Texas. Both are viewed as contenders to replace McConnell as party leader in the Senate.

Contrary to McConnell's belief that dumping taxpayer dollars into Ukraine is the "single most important event going on in the world," Biden's border invasion is overwhelming communities across the country and costing American lives. Just ask the parents of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old University of Georgia nursing student who was reportedly murdered by an illegal alien from Venezuela last weekend while out on a jog; the 14-year-old girl allegedly raped by a different Venezuelan illegal in Virginia last week; or the parents of the two-year-old who was allegedly killed by an El Salvadorian illegal in Maryland earlier this month; or the many other victims who have suffered from illegal alien crimes.

Becoming an effective opposition party requires the Senate GOP to elect a fresh conservative leader who places American interests first. Replacing McConnell with a Republican of the same low-T caliber who puts Ukraine's needs above America's will do nothing but ensure the Senate GOP will continue to lose at every turn.

26 Uncertainty does not work to the old man's favor. See any Mafia movie for examples--what it does do is freeze his successors but does little to hinder those wanting him out. McConnell literally can't change who he is anymore and his magic circle measured by the 22 Senators voting for Ukraine aid is no longer a majority of the caucus.

Essentially, McConnell has undermined the loyalty of his own leaders now and party donors via uncertainty. This actually works to the dissident faction now if they can consolidate now that McConnell's Ukraine bill likelihood of passage as such along with the FISA renewal and now the CR deadlines are running into each other.

You bankrupt the leading contender for the next presidential election. You take away his companies not only from him but also hs sons. How can one Judge in corrupt NY justice system decide the next election? How is there no higher authority to put a stop to this? Remember, there was no jury, judge determined what could be included during the trial, constantly berated Trump's attorney, silencing her on occasion. I just do not understand how there is no outcry at all.
this is so contrary to every normal rule of law.
This on top of the 84 million dollar fine in the Bergdorf nonevent.

The decent and humane German Chief of the General Staff met with that Man often and even alone in the runup to WWII. He later told people, he knew that Man was an evil lying snake and would destroy Germany in the process. Despite this knowledge, this General could carry a pistol in and out of the meetings with that Man and felt that it was for the betterment of Germany that the General should shoot him. But, he could never quite work up the guts to shoot him when meeting with him up close and personal because of distaste for engaging in personal violence with another.

However, God never said we had to be a bitch, to lay down and take it up the pooper whenever we encounter evil. The concept of "turning the other cheek" is not a call to be passive, it's a call to be SLOW TO ANGER, and slow to pass our judgement.

161 The judge has just rejected Tump's offer to ppost 100 million dollar bond while appeal takes place. It's 464 million or else. Or else what? You bankrupt the leading contender for the next presidential election. You take away his companies not only from him but also hs sons. How can one Judge in corrupt NY justice system decide the next election? How is there no higher authority to put a stop to this? Remember, there was no jury, judge determined what could be included during the trial, constantly berated Trump's attorney, silencing her on occasion. I just do not understand how there is no outcry at all.
this is so contrary to every normal rule of law.
This on top of the 84 million dollar fine in the Bergdorf nonevent.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court accepted the task of determining whether former President Donald Trump can face prosecution for alleged interference with the 2020 election, aiming for a swift resolution.

The court's decision maintains a pause on trial preparations centered on Trump's attempts to overturn the election results. Arguments are scheduled for late April, with a decision expected by the end of June at the latest.

That explains why he'd say he's waiting until November to step down. He's waiting to see what the fallout from the election is, and how he can best adapt. If Trump wins (possible) and the senate majority is Republican (very likely)...would he want to stay as a check on Trump for the GOPe? But, if Biden wins, and the Senate is Republican, he could afford to step down, because the GOPe/uniparty's goals will be met.

270 Bright Spots in a Bleak February. Nine stories to counter the vibes of the doomiest, gloomiest month. A.B. STODDARD

LAST MONTH WAS HISTORIC, in a bad way. The US left the free world in doubt about the future of Ukraine, because the Republican party’s commitment to liberty has been overtaken by its commitment to Donald Trump...

2. Congress can still pass Ukraine aid. A few brave Republicans, led by Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, may yet succeed in getting Ukraine funding to the House floor.

6. Trump is vulnerable with Republicans and independents. Haley’s determination...has shown a consequential fissure in the party that could lead to Trump’s defeat in November...more than 1 in 5 Republican primary voters said they will not vote for Trump in the general election!

7. Wisconsin ends one of the worst gerrymanders in the nation. New, fairer maps...were signed into law by Gov. Tony Evers. This is huge progress toward the goal of making districts more representative, making elections more competitive, and making every vote matter. This also gives Democrats a shot at winning majorities in the state assembly and senate.

He gave a speech on the 17th with Poreshenko in attendance where he commended him for protecting the Ukrainian people by nationalizing PrivatBank. 288 The behavior of the McConnell's and the Thune's etc...really makes little sense. They must realize that it's not their republican party anymore. When a textbook establishment candidate gets beat by over 40% points in a major primary, it seems clear that they have lost a significant portion of their voting base and continued poor performance on immigration and the economy isn't going to get them back regardless of "voluntary stepping down" exercises.

The only way they get the party back (at least in their minds) is to somehow eliminate the person who "stole" it from them. And, they don't seem to be making any move to address that.

They're more scared of what could be exposed than they are of not getting re-elected it would seem. That's kind of disturbing.

No, I haven't heard that. But I do know that Biden was very concerned that the bank be taken over by the puppet Ukrainian government to prevent Trump from having access to what was going on.

Ihor Kolomoyski owned both Burisma and PrivatBank. He was also the key political benefactor behind Zelensky and his incredible ascension from a TV comedian to the presidency of Ukraine. This is a guy that received two waivers to join the Navy Reserves as an Officer in his 40's and on the first day tested positive for coke. He told the Navy that it must have been in a cigarette that he took from a stranger. But he was going to counter Russian aggression via Burisma. Okay, pull my other finger.

313 @15

>>Supreme Court to decide Trump's immunity case in April.

Which means Trump will be the GOP Presidential candidate by that time, which means the justices got together and did an informal poll and decided sitting Presidents do have immunity for Prosecution for official acts. It will probably be 7-2 or 8-1.

Even these knuckleheads could see The Pandora's Box that would be opened if they didn't rule the POTUS have immunity.

315 It's not about Mitch McConnell. He's a paid actor that we call politicians. It's about who owns him who's trying to hold on to their power through their puppet.

316 They don't give a shit about the threat of "Russia" in Europe. Not a solitary bit.
Posted by: ...

=============

I hear that's not true in Germany. They're scared of Russia and they want, of course, a strong America to save their azzes.

So scared they were pulling oil and gas out of Russia to heat their homes and run their industries. So scared they let their army decay into a joke and their airforce become so decrepit hardly a plane can fly. So frightened they broke the treaty with Russia to have Ukraine negotiate with Donbas while NATO rearmed Ukraine after the war they lost in 2014.

317 One would think with such yes-men like Senator Roger Wicker (MS) and turncoat cowards like Senator Marsha Blackburn (TN), that McConnell should have little trouble holding on to his position of power.
I guess since both the aforementioned, horrid senators are facing reelection in 2024, they must advertise themselves as staunch MAGA candidates (which neither are in reality) and shun McConnell now, so they can both keep their grifting jobs. Giving himself all that additional time, maybe Mitchie thinks he can get them back in the fold afterwards. Given that Wicker and Blackburn are loyal pawns of his McConnellness, this is likely their endgame.

319 On point, AceDawg.

Sundance: You do not have to like or quote him, but please read one of the most connected insiders that is six months in front of everyone, especially those in the media close to D.C.(HotAir, RedState, etc.). Good folks for sure, but have agendas.

320 I’m tired of hearing “but the SCOTUS judges!”

It’s like your brother has been GM of the Baltimore Ravens and you got (checks notes)

1) free tickets to one preseason game, and
2) a jersey with the name Thomas on it

321 “ Justice is mine sayeth the Lord.”

Vengeance, not Justice.

I work for the Other Guy (don’t we all) so I know sin. Right Josue have a pos stepfather who has turned my sent out mother against me and my brother in an attempt to steal my grandfather‘s farm.

This is Texas. Those are capital, offenses deserving death, not only for him, but his entire line. I’ve trash talked before when frustrated, but this was different, I plotted it out like a famfire shoot.

But God, being the Jackass that He is, knocked the SOB over before my plan went into action, and now I’m being called home to take care of this POS walk him to the bathroom, bring him food. God is laughing
