In 2019, he himself declared Athens a sanctuary city. He does not use the word "sanctuary city," but he welcomes all illegal aliens to Athens and affirms that his government will protect them from any meanies in the federal government (then controlled, nominally, by Trump).

Which is the definition of a sanctuary city, of course.

There, I disagree. One is a legal process and the risks are managed. You try to filter for only good entrants, but sometimes you will miss. No system is perfect.

But if someone commits a crime and creates a victim and that person is here illegally, was permitted to come here illegally and stay here illegally despite the opportunity to have him not come here at all (better) or to remove him, that crime is surplus and so is the victim, and there is *zero* excuse for it.

The entire point of voting is that we citizens are responsible for the behavior of our government. If the government spends out of budget by printing money, we deserve the inflation that results. 299 This reminds me of Free Speech. When we are ascendant, we defend their right to free speech out of principle. When they control the leavers of power, they return the favor by ruthlessly suppressing the opposite viewpoint and have people thrown in jail.

I am not saying we should murder them all, I am merely saying I am fucking tired of being told I am 'uncharitable' when they are calling for the rape, torture and murder of all of their opponents quite gleefully.

Immigration as a legal process as such is not the same as "our immigration system is proper." Ours isn't. Not the legality-free (or legality-immune) illegal variety, nor most of the rest. It all needs massive, root-and-branch reform.

But the illegal invasion problem needs to be stopped immediately, and can be stopped immediately. No new laws and no reforms needed.

I just don't see this as the most viable argument. I said I agree, but I see it as more complex. It is an emotional issue though that may get some support among voters and make politicians uneasy.

Understand that we call them "illegal," but actually most are "asylum" seekers given a court date and thereby not actually illegal until they dump their tracking phone and skip the court date. (well, a lot are "gottaways,"or never seen and those are illegal. )

I actually don't disagree at all. Jumping the border was a crime. The very first act of *every* illegal alien on American soil was a crime. My argument was simply that even *if* we were to discount that crime and write it off and reset the clock to zero, every *subsequent* crime was avoidable. That is distinct because it is the only category of crime I can think of that is avoidable by policy. There will always be criminals and there will always be violence, but crime committed by those who should never have been here is a special category because it was completely avoidable. It was optional. The government *chose* for that crime to happen.

Deport them. If they have anchor babies here and we're not going to solve the anchor baby problem by properly reinterpreting the 14th Amendment, then give the illegal alien a choice: be forcibly repatriated without the kids and the kids will enter an orphanage, or hand them an exit visa and repudiation of citizenship form and they can take the kids with them.

Because people raised on individuality of Americans don't want to think that way. However, you gotta serve someone---society controls lawbreakers even via harsh methods or government must and like it or not there will be collective punishment. If government is weak and society is strong, then tribalism will be your justice system (which is what the left is trying to institute here), if the government is strong, then it has to punish people according to their deserts, not to their circumstances so as to maintain the rule of law through something like broken windows policing AND it will have disparate impacts on 'tribes' depending on their proclivities to engaged in illegal activity.

This argument has been done before--if you don't want collective punishment for your tribe--don't piss off other tribes if strong society exists or piss off the government in a weak society.

In School, the rule was that BOTH kids in a fight, got suspended, even if one was a pure victim who got cold cocked... did not matter (Colorado schools, 00's). They were taught that NO fighting was OK, even to defend yourself.

People do not want to adjust to that and young people typically have a skewed view of risk-benefit because a) society does not want them to grow up (hence the 25-26 year old 'teen'), and b) probably for genetic reasons--statistically yutes engage in riskier behavior than old folks.

Yes, as the Brits have found out--cameras may help you figure out after the fact who did what (although the gangs figure out workarounds) but it don't save little Suzy downtown from being raped, mugged, or killed because wrong place at wrong time. Ditto on call boxes---the deceased woman was dialing 911 apparently during the attack but when the police are minutes away---they can't save you either.

Regarding Athens in particular, it has long been an area of high crime surrounded by counties and cities that have much less violent and drug crime and sane local government.

Well, yeah. The federal elections could be fixed, and it could still be possible that local elections aren't as fixed.

I think it primarily has to do with parent-hatred. You don't want to vote like your parents, so conservatives are yucky.

I'd guess that's why people have to be explicitly red-pilled. It's why the left has to be seen as outright crazy in order for people to change. Why they have to wait for the utter revulsion of the agents of "change", and decide that "you know, maybe change isn't a default good".
