Quiz: Guess The Movie By the Song II
Answers Added

This quiz covers movies from 1964 to around 2010.

For a lot of the questions, the clues I provide are True, But Not Particularly Helpful. Maybe a little misleading.

Update: I'm adding more hints. I made the questions too tough.

1. "We'll Meet Again" by Vera Lynn plays over the end credits of this 1964 Peace-On-Earth ensemble piece starring one actor. Hint: "Fella could have a pretty good time in Vegas with all that!"

2. "We Have All the Time in the World" is the love theme from this 1969 movie about people falling in love despite the dangers posed by allergens. Hint: Features one of the best sardonic one-liners of the series: "He had lots of guts," said as an ice-cutting machine sprays a man's guts all over the snow.

3. "Quiero La Noche" is the Spanish-language main credits song of this revolutionary 1971 comedy. Hint: Howard Cosell play-calls an assassination.

4. "You're the Top" -- not this version, but a different one -- plays over the end credits of this 1972 screwball comedy about espionage, jewelry theft, minerology and music theory. Hint: Looney Toons.

5. Music from the opera Carmen plays throughout this controversial 1976 film about a young woman coming into her power. Hint: "Maybe you wouldn't get so much crud if you wiped your nose once in a while."

6. "Get Right Back Where We Started From" by Maxine Nightingale is prominent in this 1977 film mostly about a con artist and his three goons. Hint: the chiefs of Charlestown.

7. "Seems Like Old Times" -- not this version -- is sung by a cast member in this 1977 film about the sex lives of sharks. Hint: Nebbish.

8. "Goodbye Goodbye" played out over the credits on this seminal (ew) movie about surfing, seafood, and scalping Cheap Trick tickets. Note this doesn't sound like the exact version in the movie, but I can't link the version from the movie, or you'll see the title. Hint: If you don't get this, I don't care if you come, stay, lay or pray. My toes are still tapping.

9. "All Time High" by Rita Coolidge was the theme song of this 1983 movie about eggs and clowns. Hint: It also involves a nuclear bomb.

10. Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock-n-Roll" was a major part of this meretricious 1983 house party movie. Hint: Princeton awaits.

11. Frank Stallone was called in by his brother to record "Far From Over" as the lead song of this 1983 sequel about an ambitious, determined, talented man from Brooklyn who makes it all the way to Manhattan.

12. "Oh Yeah" by Yello is a highly memorable song from a 1987 movie about a highly-motivated go-getter conning his way into success. Hint: He's a go-getter, not a school-skipper.

13. "These Boots Are Made For Walking" was a notable song in a 1987 movie about a group of men learning together and then traveling to an exotic destination to meet lovely women. Hint: Animal Mother.

14. The poignant coda of "Layla" by Derek and the Dominoes played memorably in a 1990 drama about childhood dreams and getting ahead in a competitive organization. Hint: "I fucked up, Paulie."

15. Kiss' "God Gave Rock and Roll to You" was played as the closing song by the entire cast of this 1991 sequel, a radical movie which explores questions of good and evil and life and death. Hint: Sta-tion.

16. The Carpenters' "Superstar" played in a very funny roadtrip driving scene in a 1995 automotive buddy comedy. Hint: "What the American public doesn't know is what makes them the American public."

17. "Ghetto Superstar," which heavily borrows from the melody of "Islands in the Stream," was the main song used to sell this 1998 attempted political satire. Hint: Politician decides to speak the (liberal Democrat version of) the truth.

18. David Bowie's "Golden Years" played, anachronistically, in a disco dance sequence in this 2001 film about the European championships of equestrian sport. Hint: "You have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have been found wanting." Another hint: They dance a dance of Gelderland.

19. Frankie Goes to Hollywood's "Relax Don't Do It (Garret's Theme)" was used as brainwashing stimulus in an assassination film unfortunately released just around September 11, 2001. Hint: "Is this a school for ANTS?!"

20. "Afternoon Delight" by the Starland Vocal Band was sung by the main male cast to explain love and sexy times in a 2004 workplace comedy set in A Whale's Vagina. It's about what happens when An Old Old Wooden Shoe disrupts the office. Hint: "You're smelly pirate hooker."

21. "You Know My Name" is the title track of a 2006 film about gambling, romance, and secrets. Hint: Bleeding eye.

22. Donovan's "Hurdy Gurdy Man" was given a chilling reading when played during a murder in a 2007 cold-case investigation drama. Hint: The streets of San Fransisco.

23. The Spice Girls' "Wannabe" was one of several songs played during a driving sequence in this 2007 film about extreme suntanning and creative antivenins. Hint: It's about meeting the girl of your dreams at the wrong time.

24. Kiss's "Beth" was used in this 2008 expose about the dangers of energy drinks by one character to serenade his estranged girlfriend. Hint: Sometimes we all need Sturdy Wings.

25. "Do Something" by Infant Sorrow was a major part of a 2008 deeply-felt film about a songwriter on holiday. Hint: The music of "Crime Scene -- Scene of the Crime" should be dark and ominous.

26. "The Underdog" by Spoon was featured in a bunch of movies. So there are a bunch of answers. Here are clues to some of the numerous movies it appeared in: 2008 found footage disaster movie; 2009 buddy comedy about a bromance; another Big-style change-of-age comedy in 2009; 2011 workplace vengeance comedy; and 2017 movie about superteen.

27. The theme from Flash Gordon plays in the climax of this 2007 film about the perils of The Iron Lotus and and the power of Twin Dongs. Hint: He's sex on ice.

I'll post the answers in half an hour.

Answers follow. Most of these are from the movies themselves, just so you know I'm not fibbing.

1. "We'll Meet Again" is cleverly repurposed in Doctor Strangelove to mean that the US and Soviet Union will once again oppose each other after 100 years, after they all emerge from their nuclear shelters.

2. "We Have All the Time in the World" is the alternate theme of the James Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

3. "Quiero La Noche" is from Bananas, of course.

4. "You're the Top" is the end credits song of What's Up, Doc?, which I just watched and boy does it hold up. I saw an interview with director Peter Bogdonavich. He said that Barbra Streisand didn't like the film because, as she told him: "It's not funny." You will probably not be surprised to hear that Barbra Streisand was, get this, wrong.

5. "Carmen" plays throughout the movie, but here it is at the end of The Bad News Bears. I watched this about six months ago. It not only holds up, it improves. You cannot believe the crud that comes out of Tanner Boyle's mouth. It was scandalous back then, but it's heresy now. I now see the clue "a young woman coming into her power" was too misleading, but that's a reference to Amanda (Tatum O'Neal), who is the main character as far as the team goes, with Kelly Leak coming in second.

6. "Get Right Back to Where We Started From" was the "Winning Streak Montage Song" from Slap Shot. Here's the song edited to play over the Hanson Brothers' first rampage.

7. "Seems Like Old Times" is from Annie Hall.

8. "Goodbye Goodbye" played at the end of Fast Times at Ridgemont High. By the way, I had no idea, until I looked it up, that Oingo Boing did this. We're all on a Learning Adventure together!

9. "All Time High" is the theme from Octopussy, because you cannot write a song called "Octopussy" and get away with it.

10. "Old Time Rock-n-Roll" is of course from Risky Business.

11. "Far From Over" was the main song in Stallone's Saturday Night Fever sequel, Staying Alive.

12. Did you think I meant Ferris Buehler's Day Off? Well I'm so sorry, I clearly said it was about a highly-motivated go-getter, which does not remotely describe Ferris Buehler. Also, that movie came out in 1986, not 1987, as the question asked. So no, you lose ten points for NOT FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS! Of course the song is from 1987's The Secret of My Success with Michael J. Fox, about a mailboy taking a Fake It Till You Make It way up the corporate ladder. Did you think this was going to be easy? What am I, the TV Guide crossword puzzle?

13."Boots" is from Full Metal Jacket.

14. "Layla" is obviously from Goodfellas.

15. "God Gave Rock and Roll to You" closed out Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.

16. "Superstar" is from the driving scene in Tommy Boy.

17."Ghetto Superstar" was the main theme for Warren Beatty's political satire vanity project Bullworth. I never saw it.

18. "Golden Years" played during the dance sequence in A Knight's Tale.

19. "Relax Don't Do It (Garrett's Theme) was used to brainwash Derek Zoolander into assassinating the prime minister of Malaysia, and also used as an activation cue.

20. "Afternoon Delight" was featured in Anchorman.

21. "You Know My Name" is the theme song of the James Bond film Casino Royale.

22. "Hurdy Gurdy Man" plays during a murder and attempted murder in my favorite movie that is completely full of shit, Zodiac.

23. "Wannabe" played during the long drive to Cabo in The Heartbreak Kid. Other songs included "Rosalita" by Bruce Springsteen and "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" by the Charlie Daniels Band.

24. Paul Rudd serenaded his former girlfriend by singing "Beth" at the end of Role Models.

25. "Do Something" was by Aldous Snow, played by Russell Brand, and was an important part of Forgetting Sarah Marshall. The video I linked in the question is a fake video from the movie itself. I'll link here the deeply-felt "Dracula's Lament."

26. "The Underdog" made Spoon a lot of money in Hollywood for ten years. It appeared in Cloverfield, I Love You, Man with Paul Rudd and Jason Segal, 17 Again with Zac Effron, Leslie Mann, and Thomas Lennon, Horrible Bosses, and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Here's just one clip of the song in context, in 17 Again. It's usually used that way -- a carefree, happy entrance, often to school or work.

27. Flash Gordon is the theme music for the final skate in Blades of Glory.

But I'm also convinced he got covid from the hospital and then they gave him Remdesivir... Not saying he'd have had a good outcome or even survived if those things hadn't happened. It was a massive stroke, no way around that.

Sorry for ranting

No, it's all very valid and well said. (I'm not going to get maudlin about you and J) Those who do not take medical facilities into consideration are being cavalier with their lives.

Concerning covid and medical institutions: Houston (Texas Medical Center) was mentioned as number 1 and it probably is, however, Steven Hotez is its (TMC) spokesman and it was the first to force the covid shot upon employees and also first on masking, setting precedent/force to resistance from all other physicians and medical facilities.

These facilities are dependent and subservient to government regulation.

I don't think Norm was miserable as a person, because he was able to overcome the addiction... unfortunately it took going broke more than once to get there.

338 When we were living on base a few years back, we normally just had to show our IDs and go through. They implemented a new rule that the gate guard had to ask if you had any weapons. At the end of the first day my husband told the female MA no, we didn't, and she said, "thank you for not saying, 'just these guns' and flexing."

341 So, is it:
1. True, and being leaked by Germany because of waning support by people in the countries Germany is depending on?
2. False, and manufactured by Germany to force the issue and gain a commitment of forces from the countries where support is waning?

It is true for sure.

Well I have read reports of French, Germans (driving a KOed Panther tank), many of Poles and reports of a big secret cemetery for the casualties, US for sure. I think I heard of UK special forces training troops in country.

350 It was scandalous back then, but it's heresy now. I now see the clue "a young woman coming into her power" was too misleading, but that's a reference to Amanda (Tatum O'Neal), who is the main character as far as the team goes, with Kelly Leak coming in second.

--

Speaking of Tatum, I've read her autobiography called "A Paper Life." Geez, if only half of what she says about her childhood and her parents is true...what a horrible set of parents she had. It's very shocking. Joanna Moore was a raging alcoholic and addicted to pills, and sadly, very neglectful of her children. The complete opposite of her Peggy character on Andy Griffith. As for Ryan O'Neal...good lord, what a narcissistic, violent, mean jerk.

Mmmmm. I've read over a dozen books on the JFK assassination over the years, and none of them convinced me it was a CIA or Mafia op. Mark Fuhrman (A Simple Act of Murder) and Vincent Bugliosi (Reclaiming History - 1,500 pages) were probably the two that stood out to my leaning toward the Occam's Razor solution as the likeliest explanation.

Anyone who does NOT think we have US Spec Forces on the ground in Ukraine, knows nothing of either modern US Military History, nor current US Doctrine.

Hell, Green Beret A Teams are specifically designed to go in undercover and help indigenous troops fight whoever we say is the current bad guy.

What our 'betters' are forgetting is that Russia is taking notes on all of these games they are playing, and they are going to get theirs back sometime. If there is a Ukraine at the end of this SMO, it is going to consist of the parts Russia doesn't want to deal with. They've already said that they don't care much if Poland or Hungary take some too, just warned them that you should be careful when drawing borders that others might get ideas....mentioning Stalin adding 200 or so miles thick slab of German land to Poland after WWII.
