I was watching some time lapse videos of the Milky Way on my 4k 75" TV. You will not believe the details you can see. I could make out tens of thousands of stars, butterfly nebulas, dust clouds of varying distances, other galaxies (including clusters) On images with the saturation amped up I could make out different color nebulas, gas rings, etc.

There is also a high def image of the Andromeda galaxy that the Hubble took that is fantastic.

I think a 8k TV with true 8k images would be even better and perhaps even be used as a tool for astronomers.

20 I don't follow college sports, but don't recall seeing this bit of news discussed here:

Dartmouth men's basketball team votes 13-2 in favor of first labor union for college athletes. The vote could present a huge shakeup to the NCAA’s model, which allows college athletes to financially benefit from their roles on teams only through their names, images and likenesses.

"The Ivy League is where the whole scandalous model of nearly free labor in college sports was born and that is where it is going to die," SEIU International President Mary Kay Henry wrote. "But this victory is about way more than sports, it’s about people who need a union getting one."

The National Labor Relations Board paved the way for the union vote on Feb. 5, when Regional Director Laura Sacks ordered an election for the team.

IIRC, before the new moon you will look at the moon at sunrise. After the new moon you will look at it at sunset.

I don’t think one is better than the other but you might want to look at a chart and see what planets and constellations are out when. For example Mercury and Venus are both morning or evening stars depending on their alignment with Earth. A crescent Venus is a pretty nice view.

BREAKING: Jury finds 'Rust' armorer GUILTY of involuntary manslaughter in accidental shooting on-set

• Jury convicts movie weapons supervisor Hannah Gutierrez-Reed of involuntary manslaughter for the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins by actor Alec Baldwin during a rehearsal for "Rust."

• Prosecutors during the two-week trial accused Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the movie armorer, of unknowingly bringing live ammunition onto the "Rust" set and disregarding basic industry gun-safety protocols.

• Alec Baldwin, the lead actor and co-producer of "Rust," was indicted by a grand jury in January for involuntary manslaughter. The incident occurred when he shot a gun at Hutchins on set, resulting in her death and the injury of director Joel Souza.

The less moon brightness, the better your view of dimmer objects, especially things like nebula. You can get filters relatively cheaply that will help look at the moon surface, and also for getting the best views of nebula. The moon is not as bad as city light pollution, because in my experience, it is limited to the portion of sky the moon occupies.

88 ok, looks like this is a good time to shake up the thread and talk about the new interpretation of Shogun. Summary : Lame. Hiroyuki Sanada, with all respect blah, blah, has no presence to play Toranaga who should be bigger than life, a Shogun , a great leader and warrior. From the moment Mifune appeared in the original , you wanted to see him in every scene. In the new one, even the dude who plays Toranaga's nemesis - Ishido is more interesting. Original series was written for TV by the master hisself - Clavell. He adapted his own novel for TV, the original was filmed in Japan, the sets were hand built by Japanese, and even Erasmus was built to scale. Who made this mess, I don't know. Anyway, it still has 7 episodes to go, maybe it will get better.

113 There was a program on the Animal Planet channel featuring a veterinary group that treated exotic animals. They did several turtle shell repairs over the numerous episodes I watched. Poor turtles typically had been run over by vehicles or fallen off of a high object. Just under that shell is a blood rich membrane and then their heart and organs. Turtles would be given pain meds, and sedation and the shells would be splinted like the video and sometimes bondo on top.

Treated things like iguanas, fish (yes, they can anesthetize fish while under water), snakes. hamsters, you name it, they saw it. Several shows also on zoo animals and their health care on Animal Planet. Interesting to watch.

137 Judicial Watch points out:

Illinois’ own reported data show that more than one fifth of its counties removed few or no registrations under a crucial NVRA provision concerning voters who have moved.
Illinois informed the federal Election Assistance Commission (EAC) that 34 counties simply failed to report any data about removals under that key NVRA provision
Nineteen of these counties also failed to report any data regarding registrations removed because of the death of the voter.
Dozens of other counties failed to report other kinds of important NVRA data to the EAC.
Further (via Judicial Watch):

Counties typically do not ignore their reporting obligations to the EAC where the data is favorable to them. Rather, this failure suggests non-compliance with the NVRA. In all, 66 of Illinois’ 108 jurisdictions – or 60% of them – either reported fewer unusually low NVRA removals or failed to report a crucial data category to the EAC. These jurisdictions contain a total of 5.8 million registered voters, or about two thirds of Illinois’ 8.8 million registered voters.
