Deadshot Doggie Cafe

greenlandwithcrescentmoonpeteryanyantastic.jpg
Greenland
Peter Chan/@yantastic on IG

It's like Bambi before the unpleasantness.

Aww -- cat wants to be friends with the pet camera.

Dog gets down on his belly to teach a baby how to crawl.

A cat actually helps.

Duck clown car.

Staged but still nice and cute.

Some friends playing with their toy trucks.

Angry cats challenge each other to a... nap off?

Sugar Glider Blue Angels.

The cat watches how the dog gets the treat out of the owner and practices the moves, anticipating his big chance.

I'm just a patsy!

Shepherd is happy to see owner after three years of absence.

Rescue chimp, who spent 28 years caged in a lab, sees the sky for the first time.

57 Serious question:
If baby deers have white dots to camouflage them, why don't grownup deers get white dots too? Like they don't need camouflage?
Posted by: Cicero

Serious guess:

Eyes are edge-detectors and motion detectors. So spots and stripes are camo for stationary and slow-moving things, but the opposite for fast-moving things.

So, spotted baby deers who just lay in the grass hiding from predators, but plain-colored grownup deers who run around avoiding predators.

Striped and spotted big cats work because they sneak up on things until they're really close, and camo doesn't matter once you're sprinting at something.

From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter's protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.

109 I make a lot of popcorn, it is healthier maybe than commercial snacks. Though oddly corn oil doesn’t taste very good, or tears up my gut. Canola, crisco same thing.

Coconut oil doesn’t seem to do that, and makes tastier popcorn anyway. It’s worth paying a little more. Fiber is supposed to be healthy. But the commercial snacks use shit veggie oils as well. Bacon grease is a good substitute for cooking oil or popping corn, in a pinch. Also cut half and half with butter when making cookies. Yum!

No hydrogenated oils, at least cut back so inflammation is reduced.

113 Food oil is a fascinating subject. Some oil comes from plant flesh (ex: olive, avocado), some from animal flesh (the stuff you pour off when cooking meat), and some from seeds. The thing about seed oils that gets people going is the higher amounts of omega-6 fatty acids. Omega 6's are necessary but not to the extent we normally get them in our diet. Then there are saturated and unsaturated fats, the latter of which comprise mono and poly unsats. There's just so much to explain. Anyways, I found this cool chart:

Well, they grow canola in my AO up in Alberta. In fact, I will not be surprised if the field adjacent to my house is seeded in it this Spring. They do rotate crops, and it was barley last year. The leaves of the young plants make tasty salad greens. I don't consider canola oil to be "nasty"; it's just oil. OK for deep frying, not my choice for salad dressing.

Posted by: Alizarin Crimson at February 29, 2024 07:57 PM (MNhXM)

Rapeseed oil was used for industrial purposes, like paint. It contains erucic acid, which makes the oil unpalatable for human consumption. Canola is the result of many years of selective breeding of the rape plant to get a cultivar that is nearly free of the erucic acid. Good old Luther Burbank style work, no gene splicing at all. But now, they do have GMO canola, made to be resistant to Roundup and/or certain pests.

Having owned Diesel Suburbans, I studied up on it. First, all diesel fuel has to be very well filtered. The injection pumps and injectors have teensy-tiny passages and tight clearances. Bio-diesel is waste cooking oil that has been "trans-esterified" by retorting it with methanol and a strong base. It can be burned in an unmodified Diesel engine. "SVO", straight vegetable oil can be burned as-is, but it has to be well filtered, and kept hot, and delivered to the injection pump hot, or it will gel in the pump, and your engine quits dead. Vehicles that burn SVO usually are started and warmed up on petro-diesel, driven on SVO, and shut down after running on petro-diesel for a few minutes. Not exactly user-friendly.

Hamas, without providing evidence, accused the IDF of committing a “massacre.”

256 Israel Defense Forces @IDF
This morning humanitarian aid trucks entered northern Gaza, residents surrounded the trucks and looted the supplies being delivered. As a result of the pushing, trampling and being run over by the trucks, dozens of Gazans were killed and injured.

Israel War Room @IsraelWarRoom
The facts about the chaos in Gaza this morning:
1) The IDF was securing a humanitarian corridor for aid to reach northern Gaza, as they have done the last four nights.
2) At 4:45 AM, thousands of Gazans swarmed the convoy of trucks and began looting aid.
3) The IDF tanks securing the corridor fired a few shots into the air to try to disperse the mob. When that didn't work, the tank commander opted to retreat.
4) No IDF strike was conducted toward the convoy.
5) The IDF is working around the clock to facilitate aid to Gazan civilians.
6) There are no limits on the amount of aid allowed into Gaza

David Collier@mishtal
Almost all the Gazans who died today in Nth Gaza died either as they attacked lorries carrying aid or were killed by armed Palestinian gangs.
Not from Israeli fire.
And western media once again becomes nothing but a Hamas propaganda arm spreading [demonising Israel].

In classy joints, they don't serve you the organ that functions as the filter for an animal. Its like Ford offering you the option to re-use the same oil filter during the 5K service.

Nothing good comes out of that chicken liver, or beef liver, or any other damn liver. It's a filter. That animal didn't even want to circulate what's trapped in there.

Posted by: Duncanthrax at February 29, 2024 09:02 PM (a3Q+t)

I have never had occasion to take down and reassemble a 1911, but if you handed one to me, and said "have at it", I would, after first making certain that the mag was out of it and the chamber empty.

Yes. The Apache's fared poorly.
Posted by: Puddleglum

A lot of the problems that settlers in parts of the Southwest had with Apaches was because the Commanches had driven them off their (Apache) lands. The Commanches were pretty bad-ass. A good introduction to them is "The Empire of the Summer Moon".

I was at a pew pew shop not too long ago when a gentlemen walked up to the counter, displayed a sidearm and asked the counterman what caliber this 'thang' used.

A young lady, who just happened to be standing near him, asked if she could take a look. She took the weapon from him, removed the magazine, cleared it, and told him, in detail, what he had there.

This girl couldn't have been more than 14-15. Gotta love the South.

L'Anse aux Meadows, on the coast of northern Newfoundland, resolves any and all disputes as to whether there were Viking settlements in North America.

L'Anse is not a tiny gold pendant here, or a Rune Stone (maybe) there. It's a SETTLEMENT.

It's one of the most remote places on earth, at least to an American eye. Apparently the Vikings LIKED remote.

L'Anse was established as a Viking ship fixit garage-- to fix and/or replace the iron parts of a boat.

The settlement only lasted for a few decades, & there isn't a whole lot of it left.

Minnesota? Maybe, maybe not. Newfoundland? DEFINITELY.

I've never visited there (few have, altho there IS a park). Just read about it & saw the photos.

364 Nothing good comes out of that chicken liver, or beef liver, or any other damn liver. It's a filter. That animal didn't even want to circulate what's trapped in there.
Posted by: Pimp Hand of Reality at February 29, 2024 09:06 PM (WaBzL)

Kidneys, you are thinking kidneys. The liver does some filtering but it processes proteins, stores fats and pumps out hormones and sugars on demand.

Kidneys have to be cleaned well or they smell like piss.
