The Saturday Night Joke

Guy travels to Europe for a vacation... it's his first time, he sees the sights, has a real good time... after a while he decides to call home... gets his brother on the phone and says 'so how are things back home?'

... and the brother says 'your cat died!'... the guy says 'you shouldn't break bad news like that, you should...
... break it to me gently... like, you should say, 'the cat crawled out on the roof... chasing a squirrel... and got stuck...
we had to call the fire department... the fireman climbed up and got the cat, but on the way down he slipped... the cat fell to the ground...
... we had to take the cat to the vet... they tried to save the cat, they even operated... on the cat... but it was too late... they couldn't save the cat'... that's how you should break bad news like that'... so the guys says to his brother, 'anyway, how's mom?'... and the brother says
… 'SHE'S ON THE ROOF!'...

I know many of you have children in your lives. And I know you want to bring them up as Morons. Just don't carry the following through the Homeland Security check lines when you visit. They will not see any humor in your gift. Also if you are busted, don't blame it on The Weekend Hobby Thread.

The photo of the Largemouth Bass was taken this past Thursday while I was out fishing for Bluegills on Lake Misanthrope. No wonder why they weren't there with this big guy on the prowl.
This is the Aqua-Vu AV722. It is a great little luxury I have for ice fishing. The bass was in about 14' of water. The photo of the screen was taken with my i-Phone.

Flasher units (sonar) are nice and I have one. But having the AV opens up a new world altogether. This is my 2nd AV. I still have my B&W unit from the early 2000s.

The ONT Is Always Looking Out For YouTMon’t Make These Common Beginner Running Mistakes

The basics of running aren’t hard to get down: Mostly, you need comfortable shoes, a sports bra if applicable, and consistency. But sometimes we make things harder on ourselves than they need to be. Here are some of the biggest mistakes new runners make.

An important study hopes to put out the argument: What is better? Size or knowledge?

Does size matter? Age-old penis debate finally settled in ‘groundbreaking’ study

New data has finally put to bed the age-old debate: Does size really matter?

The controversial topic has long caused a divide among men and women, but researchers have just released stats that prove the issue isn’t actually about what’s in a man’s pants, but instead lies in the taboo surrounding female sexual preferences.

Academics at the University of Kent, in the UK’s south, have just released a “groundbreaking” study that debunks some of the biggest myths about sexual pleasure for women.

By analyzing 265 sex toys, the study assessed factors such as size, material, price, and customer reviews to uncover what women really like in bed.

The findings were very revealing, showing circumference trumps length in importance when it comes to women’s preferences.

Which reminds me.......It's time for the One & ONLY.........

9 Went to the Ye Olde Record Shoppe today.

Picked up a couple of LP's

Double Fantasy, pretty good price, Time Out 1959 pressing, paid more than I should have, and In Visible Silance to complete The Art of Noise collection.

Listening to Double Fantasy, which I haven't done since the album came out in 1980, and having lost the original vinyl to the sands of time, even my brother doesn't have it, it's a lot better and lot more cohesive than I remembered, also, controversially, Yoko Ono is not as bad as has been suggested, she comes across as a gal who really loves this weird looking guy to pieces and though she has no facility to sing a lick, sings her love to him none the less.

Tragically, John Lennon would be assasinated less than a month after the albums release and in a sad bit of irony, the last song on the album is sung by Ono, the title of the song is: Hard Times are Over.

Not quite as it turned out.

29 Commandancy of the The Alamo

Bejar, Feby. 24th. 1836

To the People of Texas & All Americans in the World-

Fellow Citizens & compatriots-

I am besieged, by a thousand or more of the Mexicans under Santa Anna - I have sustained a continual Bombardment & cannonade for 24 hours & have not lost a man - The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise, the garrison are to be put to the sword, if the fort is taken - I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, & our flag still waves proudly from the walls - I shall never surrender or retreat. Then, I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism & everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid, with all dispatch - The enemy is receiving reinforcements daily & will no doubt increase to three or four thousand in four or five days. If this call is neglected, I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible & die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor & that of his country - Victory or Death.

William Barret Travis.

Lt. Col.comdt.

Full Moon tonight. In the monthly naming convention, this is the Snow Moon. In the more proper seasonal convention, it's the Worm Moon, the last full Moon of astronomical winter.

So, it will be Spring the next full Moon. That will be the Pink Moon, or the Paschal Moon, the one that defines Easter. Note Easter comes on the early side this year.

>>Hearing some of the songs off that album is still extremely triggering.

At it's heart, the album is about two peoples love for each other, their life, there family and about the possibilities to come.

And then, a f**king piece of sh*t loser monster assassinates one of them.

That's the thing about the vinyl record, get a cocktail, you put it on, you sit back in a comfy chair, you hold the liner sheet, you read the lyrics, you listen intently and as you do, you think as well, and listen, and you think some more.

It's afar better listening experience than pretty much any other.

140 136 This project from the HALO Trust aims to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of Ukrainians, including women and internally displaced persons, by addressing the threat of explosive ordnance present across vast areas of the country. Project activities include conducting non-technical surveys and subsequent manual clearance in targeted communities; providing capacity building to key national stakeholders; and establishing a gender and diversity working group to promote gender-transformative mine action in Ukraine.

They are likely not all soldiers. In my rudimentary analysis, if given 1 million men, maybe 1 in 10 is a threat. That's 100,000. They were using the other 900,000 to hide among. Now out of those, just assume only 25% are the real soldiers...fifth columnists. That's 25,000 enemy soldiers. Thats only 500 per state. Now if the planning for them began a few years ago, by the time you start bringing them into the country, there are already safe houses,
food, weapons, everything you need.
The only thing missing are targets and attack orders.

I must have done something right when I was over there because I don't remember much if any of that nonsense. But, I was also avoiding the tourist traps.

Lot of history aficionados here...I'll let you in on a little something. Milan's got some Roman ruins because Mediolanum. Not many, and they're not heavily advertised, generally in back alleys and attached to other buildings. But they're there, and they aren't tourist traps. When I was in Milan I stopped by the ruins of the imperial palace, built in that period when the Romans were starting to move important stuff out of Rome itself. On a weekday afternoon, I was literally the only person there for a good 5 or 10 minutes. It's not far from the Sforza Castle, which is quite impressive too.

Maybe not as impressive as something like the Colosseum, but not having to deal with dumbass tourists and the crooks that prey on them has its benefits.

Rome, even with the Aurelian walls, is a massive city that isn't very defensible.

The Eastern Empire had Constantinople, which while huge, is probably the most defensible spot on earth. At least in antiquity.

Ravenna was bordered by swamps on three sides, so it was better than Milan.

I failed to notice that. The definition of "super" and "micro" are "within 10%" of perigee or apogee, which is a sloppy, technically incorrect way to phrase it, but you know what it means.

These things happen several times a year. A far better definition of super and "micro" would be to look at the wig-woggling of lunar perigee and apogee over the long term, and consider exceptional perigee and apogee excursions. Then, a "super Moon" or "micro Moon" would be a much more rare event.

From Wikipedia

"...The "Bro" versus "Manssiere" argument was based on a real argument during the episode's production. Writers Tom Gammill and Max Pross used "the Bro" in the script for the episode, but Seinfeld co-creator Larry David contended that "the Manssiere" would be funnier.[2] Kramer's performance for the German tourists was also based on real life; Gammill and Pross would act out New York stereotypes for the benefit of sightseeing buses, including pretending to mug each other.[3]

245 Meanwhile, in Ukraine:
1. Today is the second anniversary of the start of the "Special Military Operation." The Ukrainians celebrated it by being pushed out of Robotyna, the tiny village that they spent an enormous amount of blood to take during last summer's Counter Offensive.
2. The Russians lost another A-50 AWACS airplane. This hurts, as they are very expensive and are few in number. I think Russia has only six of them left, to cover the border of the world's largest country. Oddly enough, both the Ukrainians and the Russians claim to have shot it down.

A lot of Egyptologists now think the Sphinx was originally built with the head of a lioness, which was later recarved to look like a Pharaoh. That probably means it's pre-dynastic, who knows by how much. Best argument in favor of this is that if you look at the carving overall, the head is way out of proportion to the body, it's much too small. The Egyptians were far too skilled to make so great an error on such an important monument, and it makes sense to imagine that the original head was completely in correct proportion to the body.

I disagree, because I've been lucky enough to go to some truly wonderful exhibitions that had been brought over to tour from Cairo, including those centered on Tut, Akhenaton, and Hatshepsut. You are correct for Royal art and goods; those were required to follow familiar forms. But what I found most fascinating was some of the items - glassware, jewelry, all kinds of smaller household, etc. goods from non royal tombs and the like. On these you will see an incredible amount of artistic freedom, and honestly I've seen some things that were every bit as creative as any 20th century material art.

Generally, coyotes are solitary hunters. A mating pair will hunt together when the pups are weaned. A large animal that is injured will attract multiple coyotes but they don't generally hunt as a pack. Around here their primary prey are turkey jakes, rabbits and mice. They are great scavengers. A road kill deer will get picked clean by the coyotes, bald eagles and ravens in a matter of days. Every coyote I have ever encountered runs away like their life depends on it. It does.

You know what the story was with that polar lander? Somebody forgot to turn a hard wired switch on the LIDAR system before launch. They have a physical kill switch on the thing, apparently for safety purposes (the lasers on the LIDAR could put out your eye or fuck something else up if they were turned on inadvertently or soemthing).

Well, somebody forgot to turn that switch on. Now, in what is pretty amazing, they were able to appropriate some lasers on a payload package to server as the LIDAR lasers, by doing some software patching and shit on the fly.

But that's what the problem was. Somebody failed to flip a switch on.

My father, rest his soul, was actually that guy who needed his hearing and smeller checked out.

One of his younger buddies told me about an amusing incident. Daddy used to go to a local Hardee's and hang out for breakfast (biscuits). He walked up the counter in line, and they said he ripped out a couple of loud farts, which stunk up the whole area.

He was oblivious to it all. They didn't have the heart to say anything, no one did, but it was all they could do to stifle their laughter.

I just had a thought thinking of Gemini and AI in general. A very scary thought. There are legions of midwits out there, and they have been taught and trained to think this way, who think AI is some sort of oracle. Some master source of wisdom.

That is bad. You and I don't, we know better. But they are legions of idiots raised in modern Clown World who think that. Hey, AI, how do we solve Global Warmuning? Answer: Kill All Humans!

And then I remembered something from Art Bell in his hay day, with ol' Ed Dames on. You know, the "Remote Viewer" (hey, Ed, still waiting on that solar kill shot you promised that was right around the corner 20 years ago).

Anyway, on that show, ol' Ed was "remote viewing" the Book of Revelation, what John saw, specifically the Antichrist and the False Prophet. And some other stuff.

He said the Antichrist is a real human (well, something in human form), but the False Prophet was a machine.

423 Commandancy of the The Alamo

The video showed him igniting a dab of powder by smearing it on the top of a vise with a screwdriver. Which means that if you loaded the barrel with powder, and some grains clung to the interior of the barrel, that you could touch it off by simply forcing a ball into the barrel...double-plus ungood. You will note he used balls under-sized to the barrel, and wads of tissue paper before and after the ball.
