Posted by: Divide by Zero at February 18, 2024 *** The whole business drew a sharp dividing line in my life. I was used to commuting, liked my job okay, good pay. Then they sent me home for five months. I realized, as I did when I first visited the West in 1992, that Life Does Not Have to Be Like That. Then my employer, which I'd always been proud to be associated with, went all in on the face diaper and clot shot craziness. Even threatened us with job loss if we didn't take the latter. In an instant the respect was gone, and I began thinking and planning seriously about retirement. Every day for the last two years has been "WHEN I get out of here," not "Someday when I retire . . ." It *can* be an admirable quality in a populace. There's an emergency. I don't know what's going on. I'm not the one in charge, so line up and follow instructions so everything goes smoothly, even if you don't quite understand why or you'd rather do something else.
We had a minor emergency on my block a while ago (overturned fuel tanker ruptured), and mostly people acted together with police and fire to get everyone evacuated as quick as possible. As cleanup efforts finished up, we had to get our houses cleared before we could go in... fair enough, I'll let the guy with the gas meter hop into my basement that may or may not have been flooded with gasoline and diesel, and test it out for free. But everyone else was desperate to get inside their home, and so instead of just saying whatever and going into their homes quietly in spite of orders, they swarmed the poor exhausted bastards organizing the testing and turned the whole affair into a complete shit show. People can be impressive, and then be completely disgusting, within the same twelve hour period. Posted by: Warai-otoko at February 18, 2024 07:38 AM (9UlRk) 148

Pretty much everyone in my family got the initial fake vaccine, but they all jumped off the wagon by the time they were taking about "boosters". None of them, thank God, have had any adverse effects.

Starting in February 2020, during COVID, I was going through the whole chemo-radiation thing, which meant I was going in to see various doctors for various tests and treatments at various facilities, 2-3 times A WEEK.
I have many COVID stupidity stories, as one might imagine. Two of my favorites: At one place, in the lobby to screen for elevator access, they had a young man using one of those forehead temperature laser things, and a clipboard. When mine registered 106F, I commented that maybe it needed to be re-calibrated. He shrugged, duly recorded it, and let me on the elevator anyway. And then, my oncologist told me if they stopped me coming in for treatment, to call him and they'd sneak me in so as not to miss a chemo session. Lunacy. >>The narrative being; they were always there so shut up and wear the damn mask and take this shot.
Because narratives are powerful. That's the reason for the government censorship machine. One of the most important Supreme Court decisions in history is Murthy v. Missouri coming up in the Spring. Americans believed they lived in a country with free speech up until a few years ago but in reality we don't. Unless you were hyper diligent and really looked for it it was almost impossible to find any dissenting information about masks and vaccines and anyone who went agains the government enforced narratives was a crank who was punished. They even went after POTUS for suggesting alternative therapies like ivermectin. If we don't have free speech we will live in tyranny and there is no point in blaming people for being sheep. Information is the key to freedom. Posted by: JackStraw at February 18, 2024 08:23 AM (LkLld) 262

I was and still am a fan of the 6' rule. I advocated for an invention of my own I called "The Social Distancing Six Foot Shock Collar" Like doggie bark collars except if you move into someones sphere it shocks you until you leave it.

220 I liked the 6' thing. It is just about the only thing that made at least a little sense. Two people, stand at arm's length. That's about 6'. Simple, easy info to transmit (everyone can understand "stay at arm's length"), moderately effective at preventing spread."
Just in passing, but it's worth pointing out, that in fact the couple of studies that were done showed that the 6' spacing did *nothing* to stop the spread of anything; and they were quickly suppressed because of that. Spacing would have had to been 25' or more to have been effective. It was done because it was a quick, easy rule to impose, and it would make people *think* something was being done even though in fact it did nothing. It was obedience theater, nothing more, and everyone imposing it knew that. Posted by: Tom Servo at February 18, 2024 08:47 AM (S6gqv) 335

They tore it up and ate it. Posted by: fd at February 18, 2024 08:42 AM (vFG9F) As with all leftists, once they seize control of something, they want to use it. They drew heavily on the social contract once they were in control. They do not see it as a bank that you store good will in in order to be able to draw on it in order to use when needed, they see it as all withdrawal. This is true of everything, Disney, Tolkien, the Military, Social Media, Global Warming, all of it. Their view of systems is simplistic and retarded. They do not look at something and see the forest of equilibria that allows something to function at a steady state. So their management is hamfisted and idiotic. I missed the music thread last night, though-
I think the topic of Cat Stevens was interesting and that he still has relevance, even if it's only among the semihemidemi29 crowd. Cat Stevens was the second rock show that I saw when but a wee teen. (the first was the Who(!) for $4 tix). Anywho(!), I was a fan. I still am, of his music from that period. And i've made my peace with his idiocy in not buying anything else of his but listening to what I have. He ain't making any money off of that. I honestly think that he lost his mind around the time of "Foreigner" a lousy album by any measure, when he was a the top of his popularity. I don't think he could achieve whatever musical greatness he was striving for and it broke him. His "comeback" album, "Buddha and the Chocolate Box" with some good song but on others the supporting music is just a mess. Like something a schizophrenic would write. CS became a muslim shortly after that IIIRC. And though his music still sucked and degraded further, I suppose for him it meant something more. For the rest of us...meh. And his slip into asshole radicalism meant he could never make another "comeback" even if he wanted too. Posted by: naturalfake at February 18, 2024 08:53 AM (nFnyb) 359

According to most websites I've found, there was no perceptible increase in American mortality after 2019 - other than the general increase that had already been occurring as the Boomers began dying off.
Take MacroTrends, for example. Just one of many such stats sites. From 2013, where we had about 8.16 deaths per 1000 people, we were averaging about a 1% a year increase in that number, so linear it was strange, up to 8.17 deaths per 1000 in 2023. No real change in that trend after 2019. Posted by: Pair A' Dimes at February 18, 2024 08:57 AM (Lg4qk) 374

In WI what cracked it was the Tavern League, the state association of bar owners. They told the State to go fuck themselves and that was pretty much that. When the State realized they couldn't pull the licenses of every bar in the whole state they were beaten.
Madison of course dragged it out forever and the colleges. But the bars were re-opened almost immediately. Posted by: LenNeal at February 18, 2024 08:59 AM (43xH1) 386

I rmeber taking photos at Costco of people wheeling out 3 carts of food. Stood around and chatted with a guy saying it was insane.
I did discover online ordering and curbside delivery at. Grocery store. Just recently I read they needed volunteers at the Raptor Rescue Center near new home. They said "must be vaccinated" fuck them. Gees. I told friends I would not go to restaurants with them if I had to wear a mask. One time I walked up with them and the hostess said "masks". I said "have fun" and left. NEVER FORGET. Posted by: Not this shit again at February 18, 2024 09:11 AM (+3lgn) 397

Feds, leftists .. same same. BLM was supported by our leftist government and allowed to riot across the country for a year leaving billions of dollars and deaths in their wake. That could never happen if they weren't protected by the government. Posted by: JackStraw at February 18, 2024 10:37 AM (LkLld) 403
I see a sharply coordinated false flag operation. That anyone in any way in the government supports such an activity means some tar, and feathers, and rails are going to required. A lot of rails. But then again Hitler didn't have to tell his henchmen what to do, they did what they knew he wanted. So it is perhaps somewhere between the two. But it is beyond laughable to call that right wing.
