The Heartbreak Kid ... I understand that it's much darker and the main character is much crueler than in the Farelly Brothers 2007 version I have not watched the newer version. My impression of Charles Grodin's character was that he was smitten with the Cybil Shepherd character, but his pursuit of her was not terribly pushy. Her family liked him not at all (big surprise). The film ended on an unsettling note as it appeared that Grodin's "Kid", who had won Shepherd's affection, already appeared to be bored with her and was having second thoughts on what he had done / accomplished. It is a pity that the Grodin / Shepherd version is not available for purchase because I had long thought that it would be interesting to have and see again. We had three ducks [mom, dad and a 'son'] stay in our backyard pool -- in spring the tarp was filled with leaves from fall, creating a pond -- and even after we'd open the pool in early summer and usually had the solar blanket on it, they'd bathe in the open water in the pool's corners.
My mom got to feeding them bread left a few times a week at our glass patio-doors and a couple of times when they thought they hadn't been fed on time, the dad would use his bill to gang on the patio-door like the filmed one. Posted by: andycanuck (2yu8s) at February 23, 2024 08:07 PM (2yu8s) 44

Rabbits, which form so large an article of consumption with us, are not much esteemed as an article of food by the negroes in the West Indies, resembling, in their idea, the cat. Thus, a black who is solicited to buy a rabbit by an itinerant vendor, would indignantly exclaim, ‘Rabbit? I should just like to no war you take me for, ma’am? You tink me go buy rabbit? "Indeed," this very thing happened to a friend of ours in the fall. He was on a ladder, with some safety ropes in place, but -- have you read Sometimes A Great Notion? -- a widowmaker snag took the supports right out from under'im. He broke his back in a minor way; a month in the hospital, a walker, two canes, one cane, finally back to scripture reading at Mass. Had to give up raising cattle (because his wife could only finish the batch he was working when it happened, and did not want to be a fulltime cowgirl). Eventually he'll move pretty much normally, but it will be about a year gone out of his life. He wasn't even doing it for the firewood. Limbs and trunks can have all sorts of radial tension growth. >>Should I practice saying Governor Paxton? Or Senator Paxton? Governor Paxton, that dude should stay as far away from Washington as possible. The DOJ/FBI/CIA/Deep State/Uniparty would be licking their chops at the prospects of a Senator Paxton. And besides, he can get more done as a Governor than a Senator. *One does not become Senator to accomplish anything other than enriching themselves and their families. * Except Rand Paul. Being an Independent saves me a lot of money.
As can be read here frequently, Job One for Real Man Conservatives, when it comes to charities, associations for various actions, political parties and rights organizations is to have enough on them to make it OK for us to be stingy old skinflints. It's not so bad really, just something you need to know about yourself. And, when confronted, admit to. Only in this case does it put you in bed with Letitia James. I prefer "middle income" to "middle class," because the former is easier to quantify & the latter is in the eye of the beholder.

massive loss of wealth for the middle class
The obsessive devotion this country has about “class” only indicates how Marxist this country has become. Posted by: Catch Thirty-Thr33 - It's also a convenient and fairly universally understood way to refer to the group of people who aren't wallowing in poverty and also not routinely buying Bentleys. There might be many other easier and well-known ways to refer to the not too poor / not too well off group of Americans. I just don't know them. 198 Apparently the Middle Class in the US is define as those making between $38,133 and $114,400 per year with $57,200 being the median.
I didn't know it was that low. Posted by: G'rump928(c) blurts at February 23, 2024 09:48 PM (aD39U) McDonald’s pays $17 in my hood. That’s $35k full time. So yeah the numbers you posted do seem off. Posted by: Montec at February 23, 2024 10:12 PM (cB08V) 230

Land rovers depreciate ridiculously fast. You can get a 7/8 year old one for 1/5 MSRP when new. But they depreciate for a reason, reliability is awful. It’s still not a bad buy. Get a $100k suv for $20k, and just know it will cost a few $1000s a year to fix things.

I didn't know it was that low. Posted by: G'rump928(c) blurts at February 23, 2024 09:48 PM I've read that starting about 1985, you were either worse off each succeeding year (the lower class) or better off (the upper class), and the middle class had disappeared. The demarcation line was $75,000/year. In 1985. Posted by: Duncanthrax at February 23, 2024 10:18 PM (a3Q+t) 233
$75k in 1985 was beacoup bux.
