Did Fani Willis Admit to Campaign Finance Abuses?

Yesterday, Fani Willis perjured herself absurdly, claiming she paid Sweetdick back for all the taxpayer money he spent on her for flights, cruises, and hotel rooms.

When asked if she could produce any bank withdrawal records showing she'd taken out money to pay him back, she began spamming out a series of perjurious claims to explain why no such records exist:

1, her Black Panther father told her that every woman should have a half a year's worth of cash stowed around the house.

2, she would overpay at Publix and other markets and get $40 or $60 cash back. Apparently, she wants us to believe that she shops so frequently that she can rapidly accumulate the $2500 needed to pay Sweetdick back for one trip just by taking out a 20-spot here or there at Walgreen's or The Dollar Store.

3, and this is the headline story, she breezily admitted that she'd simply taken money she raised for her political campaign and simply converted it into her own private slushfund and Sex Stash.

Is this legal? Ed Morrissey writes:

This admission of conversion of campaign funds, especially in cash, could land her in legal trouble of another kind. First off, most states forbid such personal conversions of campaign funds to anything other than another campaign. Does Georgia allow candidates to simply take the cash home and use it for personal purchases? I doubt it, but we may soon find out.

Second problem: Even if Georgia law allows such personal conversions of campaign cash to personal use, it raises an issue about Willis' income tax status. That cash would have to be reported to the IRS and Georgia's revenue office as income. Did Willis report that cash and pay taxes on it? Maybe, but we also heard about a tax lien on Willis' property that remained unresolved during the period that Willis claimed to be reimbursing Wade through her cash stash (or "hoard," as one of the other defense attorneys put it).

Hit the link to read that, for some reason I cannot fathom, the trial judge will be required to accept these lies as true because, I guess, there was no live witness to claim the opposite. That is -- I'm thinking -- the rule is that if one side puts on some evidence, and the other side does not rebut with any evidence, you have to give the issue to the side with some evidence?

Even if that "evidence" is obvious lies and self-serving alibis?

Ugh. That doesn't get Fani out of the woods entirely, because the judge will, I hope, point out that she was required by regulations to note every gift of more than $100 she received, which she did not do. She chose to pretend these gifts never happened, because she alleges she paid the gifts back with completely untraceable Phantom Cash that apparently was never from any place that keeps records.

By the way, this Strong and Empowered Hot Mess wore her dress backwards:

The Fulton County DA had planned to call Fani back to the stand to cross-examine her -- in a positive way. They wanted to ask her friendly questions and improve her credibility. But they've apparently decided that this absolute wreck of an entitled bitch cannot be rehabilitated, so they're not calling her.

They called her Black Panther father, though. Presumably he lied to back her lie about telling her to always have enough cash on hand to buy not one but two engagement rings.

I don't know, I'm not watching today. I'm going to wait for the recaps later.

I don't know how that works though, as once personal funds are co-mingled with donations in a campaign, can she just rebate herself back whatever she put in of her own money? I wouldn't think so as you'd be using donor money to replace your own money. Say she put in $50K of her own cash, and ended up with a balance of over $50K when it was all over. Does she just get to pull that back out as if she never put it in?

He said "how could you not?" and said it was all over TV, radio, papers, etc., so he admitted he knew what she'd testified. One of the defense lawyers made a motion to strike his testimony based on that and the fact he was supposed to sequester himself as a witness, and the judge declined but said his admission was noted. Pretty obvious she didn't sequester herself either during Wade's testimony because she referred directly to things he said such as him being a "southern gentleman" who didn't get as pissed as she was about the questioning.

In addition, there is a new DA oversight committee to remove DA's that violate the law that is spinning up. It is based on the preexisting oversight committee that can remove sheriffs for illegal and unethical behavior.

As I said, the streets will not rise to defend Fani and she is making the entire Atlanta legal community look unethical, incompetent, and shady. GA is making a play for Delaware's corporate law status and this does not help that.

It's very common for people who have dodgy sources of income to buy a lot of gold and jewelry. You see it on drug dealers, for example. Part of that is image, of course. But the practical reason is they can't put it in a bank account and gold/jewelry is easy to liquidate.

The easiest way out for the establishment is to hide her ass away as any trial she participates in will be an extra large shit sundae with a cherry on top. The PTB can require her to recuse from the case based on potential financial gain appearance and toss the hot potatoe to teh GA Counsel of Prosecutors to pick a special counsel.

317 So nobody who isn't an investment banker gets married? Taking the old "three months' salary" nonsense as an iron rule, and assuming you live in a state that doesn't tax income and you have no dependents or deductions (pay full freight on your federal taxes), that implies a $5,000 take-home pay, which amounts to an implied salary of around $85k.

Optimistically.

That's well over the median income in many places and way above the national average.

Shocking, ain't it?

The most brilliant thing DeBeers did in terms of market manipulation - and it's totally legal - is the "Diamonds are Forever" slogan. Not just the slogan, but decades of advertising to drive the point home.

No matter how bad things get, for most women, the diamonds are the *last* things to get sold when push comes to shove. The house, the cars, the other jewelry, whatever - everything before the diamonds.

DeBeers and its brilliant saturation marketing damn near collapsed the secondhand market, keeping prices nice and high in the new market.

Appearance of financial benefit from a case is all that is necessary under the law.

I don't think the judge in question wants an appeal in the case because the GA Court of Appeals is already prone to reversing and sending it back to the trial court for a redo.

Yes, it was hyperbolic.

And saving money is good. And it takes discipline. Saving for a long time to build up a nice cushion/emergency fund/car fund and then blowing it on a bauble - even a bauble for an extremely special occasion that will only happen once - is not sensible unless you're rich enough for it not to matter (and even then, it's bad value).

I know logic doesn't enter into this thought process, and that men and women are very different, but if the roles were reversed and I got a $15k engagement ring, I'd start questioning whether marrying someone who would blow that much money on a bauble is really a good choice for binding myself to for life.

This can be simplified by removing the "black female" part. The answer is the same: no.

If you simplify it further, and make it just "office holders," the answer is still "no" so often that if you just assume it to be true, you will rarely be surprised.

What the other sub-groupings provide is better protection from consequence. They make no difference to overall probability of corruption.

Not just black women.

I have a relative in her thirties, borderline morbidly obese from a variety of conflicting health issues, who has always dressed in the latest and greatest, whether it was a favor to her body issues or not.

Mini pencil skirts, with the sound of rubbing thighs and the overlap of thigh hanging past knees.
Tight surplice style sleevless bodices with a four-boob look from the overflow, with a matching upper arm to elbow overhang, and batwings of flesh when she raises her arms.

She marries in a bustier/mermaid gown, and it was mesmerizingly scary as the recption dancing got more abandoned.

It is body positivity on bad acid.

Industrial diamonds have been of pretty poor quality. Making a *good* and proper jewelry-grade diamond is hard and the yields have historically sucked.

If they're now able to produce the good stuff reliably, it *will* change the market. And it will be expensive - and extremely profitable. And they will still last forever.

434 Ace,

As you may recall, I am a lawyer and what is the point of any of this?

If I am representing a Plaintiff (which I have done hundreds of times) and let's say I learn that the Defendant's lawyers are in what I deem an inappropriate relationship with each other, so what?

Does that mean I win? No. At best it means those lawyers would be taken off the case and different lawyers would be representing the Defendant.

It doesn't resolve the underlying claim. Why would it. There is either a dispute or there is not.

That's not to say there aren't levels of malfeasance which do resolve claims. Gross discovery abuses including but not limited to spoliation claims, can resolve cases. And obviously it's different if Defendant's attorney is sleeping with an attorney on the other side.

But this is an affair between two lawyers on the same side. The fact that Trump thinks this exonerates him shows how desperate he is. It's just salacious bullshit that doesn't mean a damned thing about what Trump did or didn't do in Georgia.

Imagine if it came out that Trump was sleeping the Alina Habba. What would that mean vis a vis his liability? Nothing. Nothing at all.

Posted by: Seattle Slough at February 16, 2024 05:17 PM (KcqqB)

435 Slough, they will be removed from the case, that is the outcome sought. A new Special Prosecutor from outside Fulton County will then be put in place. I expect the grand jury indictment to be dismissed as tainted by a tainted prosecutor running it. The new SP will have to decide if there is any case worth taking to a new grand jury. I expect him to decide against it but he might.

Posted by: G'rump928(c) at February 16, 2024 05:27 PM (aD39U)

436 And why would two lawyers on the same side of case having a sexual relation mean that they should be removed from a case? And why would they not be replaced by other assistant prosecuting attorneys from the same office?

Obviously this is just a dilatory tactic by Trump's team. I get it. If you have one piano key, you play what you can with what you got.

Old lawyer saying, when you have the law, you pound the law. When you have the facts, you pound the facts. When you have neither, you pound the table. This is table pounding.

Again, this is two lawyers on the same side of a case sleeping together. Like me sleeping with a coworker. Why would that mean my firm is compromised? What, if I wasn't screwing the junior associate, I wouldn't have filed the Complaint I filed? What's the argument? That I was showing off to sexy junior associate by filing a frivolous lawsuit? That would never fly. It's beyond laughable.

We all know that Trump called the Georgia Sec State and asked him to conjure one more vote than he needed to overcome his loss in Georgia. None of this changes that. (can you imagine if this 'perfect' call worked and Trump had won Georgia overnight by 1 fucking vote?)

Do you think he is willing to risk jail time to save her a$$ for a made-up story? Did anyone ask him what he did with the cash he received?

439 Why would I be disappointed, one way or another? Changing the prosecutor will not change the underlying acts. Trump was dumb enough to get himself recorded asking for votes to be found. Trump was dumb enough to get talked into a fake elector scheme.

They can change the prosecutor and he's still in deep shit. What happened to the Republican Party is what I want to know. Is there any stupid thing you guy's don't believe?

440 431:Seattle Stupid tortures the truth and supports election fraud and lawfare. Its how Marxists work. What do you expect from the people's republic of groomers?
