"Bloodbath" at Paramount Globan/CBS, As 800 Are Fired, Including 20 CBS "Journalists"

Oh no -- Not the journalists! Anyone but them!

Among the fired "journalists" is an actual journalist, Catherine Herridge, who was presumably fired for breaking the wrong kind of story.

Other than her: to hell with them all.

Learn to podcast.

Several CBS News reporters were caught up in layoffs at Paramount Global that claimed 800 jobs, including one who is embroiled in a high-stakes First Amendment fight -- and another who has reportedly weathered HR probes over his workplace behavior, The Post has learned.

...

"Everybody in the newsroom is pissed that [Paramount Global CEO] Bob Bakish is making over $30 million and he's making these cuts," one insider fumed.

Elsewhere, some suspected the layoffs were more than just cost-cutting. Sources said Herridge had clashed with CBS News president Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews -- a sharp-elbowed executive who was investigated in 2021 over favoritism and discriminatory hiring and management practices, as revealed by The Post.

Sources said CBS News' Washington bureau, where Herridge covered national security and intelligence, was hit particularly hard.

Among the other Washington casualties, sources said, was CBS News correspondent Jeff Pegues, who had weathered HR probes over his workplace behavior, including an alleged incident in which he dressed down a female colleague in a "20-minute rant."

Pegues is black, which is why this background is relevant. But the NY Post can't just say that.

When the incident was investigated in 2021, insiders said, Ciprian-Matthews -- who insiders have accused of promoting minorities while unfairly sidelining white journalists -- attempted to "blame" the female correspondent and eventually gave Pegues a promotion.

That's despite prior allegations that Pegues had been "lashing out" and "bullying" younger female reporters who "outworked" him, a former CBS manager told The Post.

"She got rid of her enemies under the guise of budget cuts," one source said of Ciprian-Matthews after Tuesday's layoffs. "She cleared the deck and she had to sacrifice some others like Pegues."

15 Funny how, in decades gone by, if you landed a network gig you were set for years, if not for life. Maybe it was because back then the "news" bureaus made a good pretense at reporting actual facts instead of doing hit jobs on politicians they didn't like. As a result they had good ratings and didn't have to cut costs by firing people as often.

If advertisers aren't buying SB spots, something else is up. I'm guessing a general loss of confidence in TV advertising, combined with reallocation of ad dollars toward digital spend.

False. The old tools do not work when production is offshored.
China is suffering deflation, so I think it worked exactly as planned to cut demand, only it is not US demand so we still have inflation. China is suffering labor glut. Most of our economy is federal transfer payments of salaries (which never get cut) so we have no tool to fight inflation except the cost of energy,.... but we are no longer the driving force behind energy prices,... since the biggest user is China and they are cutting their own deals.

The 70s era tools have been broken by the offshoring and rape of US economy.

Not surprising at all. FOX wanted to silence her, but couldn't fire her outright. They got CBS to sign her to a contract, so that was a win-win for both. FOX got rid of a true-believing pest, and CBS could say they hired conservatives. CBS then proceeded to embargo every story Herridge broke. It was only a matter of time before she was quietly cashiered. Problem solved.

134 Arugula (or rucola, as it's sometimes called), is an annual plant from the family of Brassicaceae. It has a tart, bitter and peppery flavor, and many health benefits. The plant and its taste was well known throughout the antiquity and the Middle Ages. It’s now available pretty much all over the globe including the US where it has found many applications as an addition to spicy recipes.

Interest in arugula become especially high in the 1970s when experimenting with foreign foods and dishes become the norm, and CBD was contemplating attending UC Berkeley.

Arugula is used for the manufacture of sweet alcoholic beverage called Rucolino in the Gulf of Naples. Small quantities of this liqueur are traditionally consumed after the meal.

It is nicknamed “garden rocket”, due to the fact that arugula grows extremely fast, and leaves are ready for the harvest 40 days after sowing of seed.

Arugula is frequently cultivated near the basil and parsley in the gardens because it repels pests (and trolls in the Food Thread) with its spicy smell and taste.

Television viewing is less than half of what it was a decade or so ago. And streaming can't compete on cost, because so much content is effectively free. There is no good way to make money in broadcasting anymore. A similar thing happened to music several years ago. It is hard to sell records when your music can be downloaded for free.

That's what has changed, and it's how we got here. Get up and walk out twenty years ago ? Many of the same folks today cheering would auto default to "that's unacceptable, where is the respect".

But this shit got rolling thirty, even forty years ago. That's been the trick of the New Communists. Getting their victims to support the very institutions aimed against them.

And it still works. Because a lifetime of knee-jerk reaction just doesn't change on a dime.

Agreed that all these personalities are, at their heart, entertainers. That said, Hunter was a neighbor of Tucker's in DC, and he told the story (in interviews) how Hunter's wife enlisted Tucker's help in trying to get him sober (Tucker hasn't had a drink in over 20 years, it turns out). I can see how, in that light, Tucker would not be eager to trash the guy in public.

247 My position is aid to Israel should be zero'd out.

This is where I'm at, but I'm also for zeroing out all foreign aid, including the aid we seem bound and determined to give to its enemies, like Iran.

Life is not a game with a fixed set of rules. Everything changes. What makes sense today is suicide tomorrow.

That is, seriously, one of the problems with Conservatism. The craving of constants. Absolutes. Life is so much more gray than you'd wish. Not as gray as the Current Communists portray. But not as black and white as Contemporary Conservatives insist either.

Said simply. There is no single decision you can make, today, that is the right decision and you never have to think about it again for decades. That isn't how things work, or how they've ever worked.

Guess the Corps finally figured out how to get in on all that sweet, sweet graft.

Our foreign aid and conduct abroad is pretty shit. Does the fact that he did not isolate Israel Aid in that statement mean it inviolate the whole idea? So, would you vote for the 85/15(or whatever the lions share was for the Ukes) Ukraine/Israel aid thing because at least it gives money to Israel?

And Hawaiian Electric (HE) contributed $75m to a $175m fund to help. I am sure they are hoping some of this will reduce litigation

In the earnings call, they mentioned a suspended dividend, but I think this was the subsidiary bank (ASB) dividend to the holding company. The Electric Company issued $13m in quarterly dividend cash. Now I need to figure out if it lines up with the $0.36/share number.

For a dude that's never held a shovel in his life, and was the heir to the Swanson fortune ? Even being slightly connected is pretty remarkable. And he is.

But he's still got that bone of a dude that never served a day in his life, yet sees an opportunity to send the troops the same way SEC fans see a bowl game and wonder why they ain't in it.

Yet, still, he's way ahead of Hannity.

Holidays 2007 for me: Escorted out of my house by the PO-lice courtesy of my eventual X-2 the week before Thanksgiving; two weeks later the company I'd been working at for 15 years decides to shut down by Feb '08; two weeks later my car gets totaled on the way to work.

But at least it wasn't a heart attack that I had two weeks after that, just esophageal spasms that mimic one.
