The Classical Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival (2/17/24)

Attachment-1 (2).png

Good morning Horde. I certainly hope you survived all of the chocolate consumption this past week.

Before we enter the Prayer Revival just a few house keeping matters. (Rulz for those of you in Poskin.)

1) This is an open thread. So feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate away.
2) Although Lutheran I have decided to sacrifice for Lent, no rulz Coffee Thread.
3) I've also decided to sacrifice my thick skin.
4) Have a nice weekend.

Oh my goodness! What a waste of God's nectar.

People used to clean their hands with coffee.
Soap is an everyday essential, but this incredibly useful (and lifesaving) cleanser hasn’t always existed.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

12/27 – TecumsehTea requested prayers for a dear friend, Pastor Joe, who has a benign brain tumor. In the past 2 years he has dealt with a heart attack and prostate cancer, and now this. He has deep faith and trusts the Lord. His family is understandably anxious. Prayers for wisdom for the doctors, peace and comfort for his family, for continued mercy and healing for Pastor Joe.
2/8 Update – Surgery was successful on 2/8. It only took 2 hours, instead of the expected 4 hours, and his vitals are good and his brain is functioning normally.

1/6 – Our Country is Screwed asked for prayers for his daughter. At 26 years old, she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. They are still running tests and scans to determine what treatment options are available.
1/27 Update – She will be starting chemo in a couple of weeks, followed by surgery and then radiation. She has a long road ahead of her, but she is strong and has a positive attitude. He said it’s really hard being 14 hours away from her.

1/12 – Washington Nearsider’s last day of employment has come and gone. He plans to withdraw his TSP and retirement contributions to buy time and then evaluate whether or not to list his house. His ex-wife, learning of his change in employment, is filing to contest his sole custody of their two children, and his lawyer has explained that without a job, he is likely to lose custody. Please pray that he can find employment sufficient to keep his house and his kids before losing both.
2/3 Update -Washington Nearsider has been and remains sincerely grateful for the prayers and well-wises of the Horde. He has withdrawn his TSP and has enough money left to get through late March – early April. He will accrue debt with the custody hearings which begin 3/6. He has 3 interviews scheduled for the week of 2/5. He is also attempting to expand his custom model building services to bring in additional income by leaning on 20 years of experience building models of all kinds: building planes, tanks, ships, etc. Please contact him through the comments or email Annie’s Stew, and she can send you his direct contact information. He sends his thanks for his daily dose of sanity in an otherwise crazy world, and for the constant stream of wonderful Fani Willis euphemisms.

1/20 – Cybersmythe asked for prayers for his sweetie’s son, who is in rehab.
2/3 Update – The son is out of rehab. They appreciate the prayers and hope for continued recovery.

1/20 – Jewells said she has spent the last 2 days recovering from the latest chemo treatment. Praise God, it has gone much better. She still had pain, but was able to manage it with oxy, but it makes her very weak.
2/15 – Jewells has an update that the PET scan showed great results, and her MRI showed no cancer!

1/26 – Don Black asks for your prayers for his kidney surgery.

1/27 – Emmie asked for prayers for Mr. Bassman, for his upcoming knee replacement surgery. Also, they are having patient-sitters come in when Emmie has to go out, and there’s a certain amount of anxiety related to both of them. Prayers that it all goes well would be good.
2/3 Update – Thank you for the prayers! The surgery went well and recovery is coming along nicely. His patient-sitters were a big help. The family and church friends have been a huge encouragement and a great resource.

1/27 – Tonypete asked for prayers of thanksgiving for his 14 year old granddaughter. She has expressed a strong interest in being baptized. Her parents are disinterested, so Mimi is picking up the slack here. Hopefully this step leads to many others on her journey to a positive life.

1/27 – Mindful Webworker welcomes prayers – daughter Sugar Plum Fairly miscarried this week. It was the second time in recent years. She and the wonderful son-in-law are hurt, but taking it in stride.

1/27 – RetSgtRN gave an update on her son-in-law, Kenny. His bone marrow biopsy last week showed 100% donor marrow, which means the cancer is gone. She sent a thank you for the many prayers sent his way. This is such a blessing for him, her daughter, and her two grandsons.

1/27 BrianinTn asked for prayers and support for Rich (in St. Petersburg), who is suffering from the advanced stages of Parkinson’s disease, and is to the point where he can no longer work, and even has trouble standing or sitting up for any length of time. Please give your prayers and support to someone who is without a doubt the nicest guy BrianinTn has even known.

1/27 – Dash my lace wings! humbly asked for prayers for her worsening lower back pain. She got checked, and an X-ray showed her spine is all curvy – not scoliosis bad, but definitely not straight. She appreciates prayers that they can get it straightened out and pain-free in short order.

2/3 – Teresa in Fort Worth would appreciate prayers for Leigh, the director of a school for students of all ages with Down Syndrome. Leigh has been diagnosed with Soft Tissue Sarcoma. The tumor was removed this week, and they think they got all of it. Leigh would appreciate the prayers.

2/3 – Reforger asked for prayers for his Coworker, “D”, a widowed mom of 4 who is having a rough time with daughter #1. The daughter is skipping school, was caught 3 times and now police and social workers are involved. “D” is beside herself. She is having to miss work (and pay) to do probation stuff and keep appointments with “therapists”.
2/10 Update – Reforger reports that Coworker “D” and her daughter are doing better. He also relayed a funny story that ended up with him being able to bless “D” with another $200!

2/3 – Naughty Pine asked for prayers for Rachelle, a para-pro who retired from working in Detroit and has to continue working elsewhere. She discovered she was put into the wrong payscale and HR has given her the run-around, despite clear proof. She’s afraid of making waves, but Naughty Pine convinced her that does no one any good, to continue with this error. Naughty Pine would also appreciate prayers for her Arizona-bound neighbors. They have a long trip ahead, with moving van, trailers, etc. Also, please pray she gets good new neighbors.

2/3 – I’m Gumby Damn It requested prayers for an emotional hardship. He trained a two-man crew to install bath remodeling products for his little company, and they went around him and were hired by his vendor.

2/3 – Polliwog the ‘Ette would appreciate prayers for Inspector’s back pain. It’s been bad enough that he’s had to admit it’s a problem. It also keeps him from sleeping or being able to do even mild exercise, both of which are important for managing his blood pressure. They’d appreciate prayers for complete healing, but also wisdom on how to prevent future problems.
2/10 Update – As soon as she asked for prayers, God brought to mind something that helped Inspector the last time, but they’d forgotten to try. His back is substantially better, and he’s become convinced that it’s the sitting, not the exercise, that causes problems, and that is also a victory.

2/3 – Brother Tim is currently homeless. He spent the last 3 nights at a hotel, but he’s short on cash now. He needs a new job and a place to stay. He’s looking for another roommate situation, but they are few and far between. He is trying to make new connections, too. He’s not looking for funds, but advice and prayers are appreciated.

2/6 – 496 requested prayers for his wife and daughter as they begin a formal process of reconciliation. Please pray for warm hearts and cool heads at a minimum. He would also like prayers for his boss, “S.T.”. About a year ago his wife’s breast cancer returned. Initial treatment looked successful, but it is back now, and in her brain.

2/3 – Fenelon Spoke asked for “P”, who needs prayers for his return to faith as a Christian. Also, prayers for Pam, who needs continued healing after a pacemaker insertion, are appreciated.

2/8 – It’s me, Donna, asked for prayers after some bad lab tests. It turns out it’s not as bad as thought and easily treated. Thanks so much for the prayers.

2/10 – Sock Monkey asked for prayers for his BIL, who woke up 2/9 with no feeling in his legs and unable to walk. After a lengthy visit to the ER, a growth was discovered on his spine. Doctors were only able to remove part of it during an 8.5 hour surgery on 2/10. The mass is probably cancerous, but they don’t know what type. His prognosis for walking again is not high. The family would appreciate prayers for healing, strength, and comfort.

2/10 - Mindful webworker asked for prayers for a dear, long-time family friend, Levi, who is in a desperate, dangerous state of distress and is an immediate threat to himself and others. Please send up prayers that he can swiftly be freed from the demons that confuse his mind and torture his soul, and that his family would be protected, and that he would return to Jesus.

2/10 – Martini Farmer asked for prayers for his son, who lost his job this past week due to DEI.

2/10 – Beserker-Dragonheads Division is in the hospital. He had a cardiac cath, then was sent straight in for bypass surgery.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9
We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair, persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.

Far as country music, it really went downhill when they started pushing the R&R with a slight twang.
It was neither.

78 Watched Waterloo (1970) last night. Rod Steiger defined 'hamming it up'. If you look up 'ham' in the dictionary, it should have his picture. 1st hour interminably dull. 2nd hour, mostly the battle. Couldn't tell who was who or which side was which. And some of the accents were indecipherable.

Bottom line: like Godfather III, I can now say: I have seen it.

88 Brennan then handpicked his lackeys, used selective intelligence that only bolstered his bias, excluded others, and dismissed the State Department and the Defense Intelligence Agency’s findings entirely since they weren’t sold on the Kremlin-Trump ties. Two senior CIA officials involved in Russia operations were also put on mute. And the National Security Agency remained skeptical of the collusion ties. Only three of the 17 agencies that form our intelligence community agreed with the CIA’s conclusion that Russia initiated operations to ensure a Trump win.

The Ember cup is the best thing for drinking coffee so far. Has a battery-driven heater that somehow gets some of its heat from the too-hot-to-drink-yet coffee poured in to fill it, then keeps the coffee at the right temp so you can drink it over fifteen minutes or more without it going cool.

It's pulsing white light strip near the base is telling me it's in its heat-acquisition stage.

Inspector was supposed to be his oldest sister's executor, but he's still employed while Elyse is retired so she has taken on the task. Which means having to travel from San Diego to Detroit in winter, mountains of paperwork to even get started cleaning up the house (which is nice, but the interior was trashed even before their sister went undiscovered for a week) and deal with uncooperative relatives. 175 The gap between the Negro and most other groups in American society is widening.
The fundamental problem, in which this is most clearly the case, is that of family structure. The evidence — not final, but powerfully persuasive — is that the Negro family in the urban ghettos is crumbling. A middle-class group has managed to save itself, but for vast numbers of the unskilled, poorly educated city working class the fabric of conventional social relationships has all but disintegrated. There are indications that the situation may have been arrested in the past few years, but the general post-war trend is unmistakable. So long as this situation persists, the cycle of poverty and disadvantage will continue to repeat itself.

Apparently, it was as bad as a bomb going off.

I'm not sure, when responding to a gas leak, if you get there and it's bad, you can't the whole line shut from the source (even if you take down the neighborhood's gas for awhile). Less gas would be less boom. But I don't have gas, so I don't know if this is a solution.

of course any individual building can be turned off at the meter, and there are generally junctions and subvalves that can shut off areas. But only a utility rep would know how to find those. The problem with a gas leak is that it essentially becomes a fuel-air bomb. I was 2 blocks away from a small commercial building that blew up that way once. That was a Big Bada Boom, and the most amazing part was little burnt pieces of paper goods and other charred items raining down over the neighborhood for the next 15 minutes. It was closed at the time, no fatalities.

IIRC, buried propane tanks are not your typical above ground tank, you know, buried. They're purpose built so they don't rust.

And then leak. And then possibly explode.

Both my tanks are above ground however one, at a house I had just purchased, was partially buried and ruptured one summer day... due to rust. No explosion, but it scared the shit out of us.

222 Loudon County response team screwed up badly, apparently had not been trained to deal with that. When a gas or propane leak is identified, the ONLY priority is evacuating the property immediately and exposing as few people as possible to the danger. It sounds like they put a bunch of people into the structure in a standard response and they were inside when it exploded. (they might have triggered the explosion somehow)

It reminds me a bit of a very sad case in Arizona in the late 70's. There were some railroad tank cars full of pressurized propane and a fire had broken out under one because of a leak. The local volunteer fire department went to put it out to try to prevent an explosion - and then it blew up, killing *everyone* in that entire VFD, 9 or 10 guys. Tragic.

225 An "underground propane tank" and a "natural gas leak" are not the same thing. Gas lines from a utility can be shut off at a couple of places. A propane tank has enough fuel to set off a major fire or explosion all by itself, and the shutoff is usually right next to the leak.

Yeah, where we've been going since joining the cult. There are no fatties. Older folks, yep.

But, some of those are ex-tennis pros(!) or old tennis fanatics who've taken up pickleball so they can still compete in the tournaments.

If we wanted to pay $150/mn at the asspensive club, there are mostly younger professionals playing. I suppose it scratches the same itch as does tennis or racketball or squash or handball. Just depends on the level you're at as to how much running around the court you'll be doing.

It's fun and social. The games are short. I can see why it's growing in popularity.

Supply and demand, but mostly demand.

One thing I've learned over the years is that for 'collectible' things, price is entirely based on demand. I saw an auction for an Edo-period Japanese matchlock - super-rare, gorgeous, and yet a good condition M1 Garand - which were made by the million and are as scarce as Glocks on the collector circuit - will certainly sell for more.

So as demand for the book surged, everyone realized they could make people pay through the nose. When interest falls, it will go back to a bargain.

The locals are playing it here, and it reminds me of paddle ball, aka platform tennis. That used to be an upscale winter sport, played in a cage with a heavy ball and wooden paddles (with holes drilled in them). The courts were metal, and heated. My grandparents loved it, played mixed doubles. They'd play a set, then come up to the clubhouse for coffee or cocoa, then back down to the court. I assume we're now dealing with a more plebian form of the sport.

254 A gas salt storage dome in a rural area near Brenham exploded on April 7, 1992, killing three people and injuring 21.

The massive explosion destroyed houses and left nearby wooded areas with nothing more than smoldering tree trunks. The explosion was so large, it rattled windows in Houston.

The blast killed 5-year old Derick Meinen; Gloria Driver, 46; and Delores Medve, 27.

The underground storage dome, operated by Seminole Pipeline Co., stored liquefied petroleum gas. Gas began leaking from the dome and a large cloud of gas formed in a low area. The gas ignited and ripped apart at least five nearby houses, crushing one mobile home, killing Derick Meinen. The blast rippled across the rural area damaging as many as 50 structures.

Exactly. I know you mentioned your situation before.

As a general principle, it's true across all kinds of realms, the people who financially benefit from WHATEVER industry there exists, should NOT be the ones who make the rules about how that industry works.

Not just politicians, but obviously, our so-called justice system, are perfect examples.

A big part of the problem is that we've forgotten how to forgive one another, including ourselves. If you don't believe in God, you can't accept His mercy, and all you have is shame and desolation.

Some people have no shame, and that's also why we are where we are today. All the elites are completely devoid of any self-examination and incapable of contrition or remorse. They're the direct heirs of the Puritans - they are the Elect, the Chosen, and their salvation is guaranteed. They are perfect as they are.

A lot of other people adopt this mindset, but are not protected like the elites and they also haven't fully internalized the "I did nothing wrong" mindset.

Thus, we have a society that tells you "anything goes" but randomly punishes little people for acting on it. (cont)

350 (cont) Last night over dinner my middle daughter announced that she was going to a Catholic speed-dating event at a local parish next weekend. I reflected that if I were her age, I'd do the same and probably be married by 23 given the shortage of eligible men.

My wife pointed out that I was in fact 22 at one point, and did nothing of the sort, instead choosing sin over virtue. After a moment, I agreed and said that it is only over the past few years that I have come to terms with what a sinful wretch I was in those days.

Which gets back to my point: you can change, you can repent. God rejoices when sinners turn away. Christ came to save sinners, not the righteous. It is never too late to repent. After a lifetime of affairs, divorces, remarriages, no less than John Wayne was received into the Church on his deathbed and was reconciled. Confession is a wonderful thing, absolution frees us from the chains of sins that keep us from God. As a society, we have lost that, and we must get it back.

351 I bought a hardcover copy of Camp of the Saints back in college because it was assigned as part of a military history course. I didn't even read it at the time, but I do recall the instructor saying that the future wars would not be between east and west but between the first world and the third world. I read it years later and didn't think much of it at the time, but in hindsight that instructor was a modern-day Nostradamus.

Maybe I'll spend my days hand-copying it and distributing the pages like they did in the USSR with samizdat materials.

And the extent to which the revolving door from government to industry and back again, has to be closed. Locked. Removed from its hinges, burned, and fed to the wolves.

Then blow up the wolves.

The problem that these people are running into is that there is no "game over" in life, where your cheat is made permanent. There's always something else coming up, and having cheated once, it's harder to cheat again, and after a while, people figure it out, and the game starts to evolve in ways they didn't expect.

Moreover, the people in charge are so starved for attention that they are compelled to seek praise and run victory laps for how clever they are. They're smart! They tricked you, loser! Deal with it!

That leads to places they haven't thought about, and historical parallels they never bothered to look up.

There were times where my breathing was a little labored. This recent one was new. Four years ago I thought I was having a heart attack and it turned out to be acute myocarditis, that presented the same way. Ambulance came, I got the usual treatment, and things settled down. They ran all the tests and my arteries were clear, nothing wrong with cholesterol, etc. To this day, no one knows why I was struck down. I mean, I was stressed, was pushing myself too hard physically (the attack came after swapping out the basement appliances, so exhaustion played a role), and because of that, my cardiologist said to stay away from the Vaxx because a myocarditis was associated with it and I could drop dead.

Anyhow, I used my convalescence to do the research for what became Long Live Death, which was published in 2020, just in time to explain where we are. I didn't intend to write a book, I just wanted to chill.

Relax, and use your time well.

The Chinese can't prevent the shrinkage of their population. The one-child policy for all those decades ruined them;

1) Selective abortions so the one child was male.
2) No siblings
3) No aunts/uncles/cousins

This leads to many women over there not wanting to have kids of their own. It's estimated, if things continue for another 60-80 years, 300-400 million population.

Yes, and .32 is seeing a revival because it packs much more power than a .22LR, is more reliable, but still very mild to shoot. Charter Arms' .32 Magnum revolver is called the "Undercoverette" to appeal to the ladies who want a magnum, but less recoil.

My daughters are really grooving to .32 ACP, and I'm seeing more ammo for it, and some new production guns chambered in it. Some of those will certainly be pink.

Tucker's whole schtick is to appear naive. He has a great confused/shocked expression, and he uses that to highlight significant portions of interviews. I'm not saying he's faking it, but that's one of his strengths and why he is effective. He doesn't just nod, or talk over people like some reporters, he pauses and gives the incredulous look, and then asks for confirmation. That adds to the impact of those moments.

Biden/Blinken have tried 2 or 3 times to start up a color revolution against Netanyahu in Israel, but every time it gets close to succeeding, Hamas jumps out and says "NO NEGOTIATIONS! ALL JEWS MUST DIE!!!" and Bibi ends up looking smarter than anybody else. The latest effort, involving Biden's declaration to unilaterally recognize a Palestinian State was (according to Israeli sources) based on the belief that Benny Gantz would agree and push Netanyahu out of the PM slot. Well 2 days ago Gantz (who is in the war cabinet) said that Netanyahu was right, and that he would never accept a Palestinian State, either. Looks like the entire effort by Biden and Blinken is dead about 5 days after it began.

Posted by: JackStraw at February 17, 2024 10:24 AM (LkLld)

Yeah, that was a tell. I could be wrong, but the last time I can recall Putin granting Western media a long form interview was in the late 90s or maybe early '00s. And it was very interesting, and provided insight into his thinking. It was not a controversial thing to do. He's sort of a big wheel down at the nuclear-armed nations club, so people wanted to hear him out.

It's rare and important, and many of the people who read that interview with avid interest back then are the same ones who now shriek about this one.

I guess that's the thing we don't know for sure, what he knew and when he knew it.

I don't doubt there was SOME naivety, simply because of who he was and wasn't allowed to have on air. They were systematically controlling his access to information, but he often talks about how much he's struggled with that, having grown up in the world he did, and worked in the places he has, to realize how much of it was part of the op.

But that's what we all don't know for sure. Who was/is part of the Deep State. We can't always know.

I learned last week that Gloria Steinem was always an agent of the CIA. Her job was to control the direction the feminazi movement went.

436 Yes, and .32 is seeing a revival because it packs much more power than a .22LR, is more reliable, but still very mild to shoot.

Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd

I got an Undercoverette some time back. Very small especially with the oprional sliver grips and might be a bit of a kicker with the hotter 32 H&R magnums.

But, never shot it yet as I saw a Taurus 327 right after that I snapped up. The 327 is bigger but fun in that it can shoot five different cartridges.

1) Selective abortions so the one child was male.

Their comfortable lives have been totally disrupted by murder, rape and the burning to the ground of entire communities. Yes, let's give the perpetrators of this horrendous crime against humanity their own country as a reward. Let's make it right next to where the innocent victims live and work. Let's rebuild Gaza so they can continue to live off the welfare the world provides so they can continue to not produce anything to make the world a better place.
I like the Israelis who live in a completely integrated society, produce Medical and technological wonders and live peaceably in a communal lifestyle that communism has been unsuccessful in achieving in 100 years of trying.

If Rush were still alive, the last three years would been commentary for the ages.

The 'judicial system' is weakest and most corruptable organ in any state. The 'judge' gives lawful credibility to even the most egregious acts of despotic state actors.
