Biden Refuses to Sit for Super Bowl Interview, Instead Runs an Ad Complaining That Potato Chip Bags Have Air In Them

Biden complained about "shrinkflation" -- reducing the amount of chips or cookies in a bag, while keeping the package the same size.

Companies are doing this because of Biden's inflation. They can either charge more, which customers hate, or disguise the fact that prices are higher by offering somewhat less product for the same price.

Biden once again pretended that companies are "gouging" customers, taking no responsibility for the inflation he's flooded the country with.

President Biden celebrated Super Bowl Sunday in what many saw as a bizarre and ironic video attacking snack companies for inflation.

Though the president skipped out on the traditional pre-game interview, the White House's X account posted a pre-recorded video of Biden talking about "Shrinkflation."

"While you were Super Bowl shopping, did you notice smaller-than-usual products where the price stays the same? Folks are calling it Shrinkflation and it means companies are giving you less for every dollar you spend. I'm calling on the big consumer brands to put a stop to it," the post read.

In the video, Biden said, "It's Super Bowl Sunday, and if you're anything like me, you like to be surrounded by a snack or two while watching the big game. You know, when buying snacks for the game, you might have noticed one thing: sports drinks bottles are smaller, [a] bag of chips has fewer chips, but they're still charging just as much."

He continued, "As an ice cream lover, what makes me the most angry is that ice cream cartons have actually shrunk in size but not in price. I've had enough of what they call Shrinkflation. It's a rip off. Some companies are trying to pull a fast one by shrinking the products little by little and hoping you won't notice. Give me a break. The American public is tired of being played for suckers. I'm calling on companies to put a stop to this. Let's make sure businesses do the right thing now."

The video and its focus on inflation struck many social media users as ridiculous and ironic considering the Biden administration's track record.

"Imagine how little respect you must have for voters to try this," National Review senior writer Charles C.W. Cooke remarked.

Outkick columnist Mary Katherine Ham commented, "I did not predict leaning into the aging issue with an Andy-Rooney-on-quaaludes rant about how chip bags used to be fuller."

Biden's continuing the gaslighting, telling anyone who will show up to his fundraisers that "costs have fallen."

Biden, who is non compos mentis, says that Trump is responsible for all of the covid deaths, including the vast majority which took place during Biden's Fake Presidency, because he... didn't do enough to get people vaccinated.

The "vaccine" was announced the day after the election. It became available in April 2021.

30 To be fair, companies *are* taking advantage of a crisis to increase revenue and profits.

The crisis was created by Biden though.

Markets tend toward perfect competition where profits are slim. Any disruption means they can increase profits without the competition grabbing market from them. You can't really take advantage of an inflation crisis by raising prices, but you can reduce quantity of product per unit. That is like growing market (people need to buy more, and more often.)

Shrinkflation actually increases costs and decreases value to consumer but it happens because it is advantageous to manufacturers and retailers. They get away with it because in a crisis, the old rules no longer apply and competition becomes much less perfect.

Posted by: Gentlemen, this is junta manifest at February 12, 2024 06:18 PM (jvesK)

31 Shrinkflation is real.

They have two choices: charge you what you can't afford at all so you don't buy it anymore and nobody gets anything (inflation), or charge you a little more for a little less so that you can at least afford to partake in the product still if you want to.

It isn't corporate greed. It's commercial desperation as a result of the public private complex's greed.

The left sees this as proof that they are the problem.

It is not just a matter of supply chain/ inflation / etc. squeezing everyone. The problem is that corporations take advantage of any disruption to increase profits. Partly this makes sense by basic economics since disruptions = risk, and require larger profits to compensate.

But partly it is just how the world works. Don't blame the corporations, blame the source of the disruptions -- covid, lockdowns, Gov. pissing away trillions, war in Ukraine, War in M.E., inflation, massive increase in population due to migration,.......

Biden caused these disruptions, which leads to profit taking.

An extra 3% inflation has now been baked into the economy by going to a cashless society. Every credit card purchase, even if you pay if off immediately is treated as a loan for the purposes of Fractional Lending.

That means the credit card companies are creating dollars, every time you buy something. This money creation is not something they can control with interest rates... then add in money creation due to government deficit spending.... and you are at 5% inflation, at the very least... forever.

The correlation between tax rates and actual percentage of GDP that is collected in taxes is called the Laffer Curve

I can't find a cite, but IIRC the guess from historical data in the US is that the percentage of GDP it is possible to grab is around 17%, any higher and the taxed find ways to evade or just give up producing.

the percentage of taxes includes all the fees, costs, local and state taxes and additional costs. Some economists also try to calculate regulatory costs as well.

197 An extra 3% inflation has now been baked into the economy by going to a cashless society. Every credit card purchase, even if you pay if off immediately is treated as a loan for the purposes of Fractional Lending.

That means the credit card companies are creating dollars, every time you buy something. This money creation is not something they can control with interest rates... then add in money creation due to government deficit spending.... and you are at 5% inflation, at the very least... forever.
Posted by: Romeo13 at February 12, 2024 06:41 PM (xaFKb)

that is just the processing cost (labor and banking costs), it is in every transaction you make, just the banks bury it in reducing your interest rates. FWIW, gold bullion has a transaction cost too.

The real inflation is from banks (and credit card companies) issuing loans which the borrower pays back plus the transaction costs and the bank's charge for getting the money from the FED system and thge interest the bank takes as profit AND the risk they bear for the borrowers that go bust and can't pay it back.

226 The "shrinkflation" meme from the Biden campaign is simply an attempt to convince naive people and dummies that the continuing price increases of packaged foods has not been caused by the continued inflation during Mr. Biden's tenure.

However, Mr. Biden's evil shrinkflation does not explain the ever-continuing cost increases during Mr Biden's tenure of constant-quantity items. Such as a half-gallon of milk or orange juice, a pound of hamburger or ham, a dozen eggs, a pound of apples, potatoes, flour sugar, and so on.

And guess what packaged food are made from? Milk, eggs, apples, potatoes, flour, sugar, and a lot of other raw foods!

As others said, shrinkflation is real, and is a marketing psychology practice. Nothing else. If FJB believes otherwise, he should show us his evidence. He would it he had any. If Joe proved 'shrinkflation' is a malicious, evil tool of 'big brands' to rip-off consumers, parents feeding families would band together, buy rope, and lynch every employee at big brands' companies. 249 You missed the point. Every Credit card transaction is just that... a credit transaction... thus kicking off fractional lending... so the cashless society moved what would be a normal transaction, to a loan.
Posted by: Romeo13 at February 12, 2024 07:04 PM (xaFKb)

You miss the point. In our fiat system inflation is caused by the creation of money without equivalent production of backing wealth, which is the definition of fiat.
your 3% is the cost of handling transactions, which is the labor cost, the infrastructure cost and the cost of having money on hand to clear the credit in the system.
all transactions have a cost, be it your visa card or the bank of Manhattan sending a shipload of gold to the bank of England to clear an imbalance in credit between the two banks in 1920.

the transaction cost is not creating money, it is a fee just like the cost that uber-eats charges you above the cost of your pizza, and for the same reasons.

They rent an 3 bdr, 1.5 ba apartment for $1600 per month. Almost 40% of their entire income. I rented the apartment 5 doors down in 1989 for $365. First tennant. They had common rooms and weight rooms. Pool and hot tub. Clean and new.
Place is a dump now and those rooms are apartments. The pool is a mosquito breeding ground and the hot tub went long ago.
I don't see short of hitting the lottery a path for them out of there.
Frigging average house here is around $500,000.
This sucks.

On SNL, Phil Hartmann portrayed Reagan as a buffoon in public, but an evil mastermind in private. Ronnie was actually a closet intellectual (a fan of Hayek ... not that Hayek, the other one).

Reagan dealt with Iran/Iraq by selling arms to both and then getting them into a shooting war with each other. He then used the profits from the Iran sales to fund anti-Communist rebels in Nicaragua which got him in trouble with Irangate.

Marine Colonel Oliver North ran the operation but in the Irangate Congressional hearings he said it was totally his own idea, thus shielding Reagan.

They subpoenaed Fawn Hall, Ollie's secretary, to try to undermine his testimony. Draws dropped when this unknown walked into the Congressional hearings. She covered for her boss.

Fawn could have been in a ZZ Top MTV video, no?

Either the fix was in and they lied about it to limit any benefit to Trump prior to the election, or they were telling the truth and were not accepting money and whatever through the program. And if not, why not? Did they know something everyone but Fauci did not?

279 Romeo13, fractional lending is a problem, which historically will cause a business cycle ending in another recession, but in this case today I have been told that the FED has backed all those bad debts by issuing FED loans for the face value of the banks' bad debts but they can't spend it, so on paper they are still solvent.

The problem is the Treasury is issuing debt to cover the deficit spending and creating money that way, which the FED acting as the central bank has to cover as well.

Powell is trying to hit the 2% inflation and is tying language in knots to say he is doing it, but he isn't managing it.

281 66 >>> I do think the "air in potato chip bags" is a con. The whole "sold by weight, not by volume" is bullshit.

To wit; a 16oz bag of chips that takes up a 96oz bag.... in volume. And sold for $12. All of it air.
Posted by: Martini Farmer at February 12, 2024 06:15 PM (Q4IgG)

I think the air is mostly for reducing chip breakage in delivery and stocking.

Posted by: banana Dream

Easy arguments, but other than keeping the chips from breaking is only a part of it. The other part, is that the "air" in the bags isn't "air" it's pure nitrogen, which, without the presence of various specific elements, and a rather high amount of energy is a borderline noble gas. The Nitrogen doesn't just offer protection from crumbling, but also prevents oxidation and staling of the chip over time while within the bag, until it's opened. Pringles uses the same routine, that's why you hear a wisp of air when you open the tube.
