It may be confusing to watch the press for the next few months

sunrise red friday.jpg

Yesterday's sunrise in Central California

White House Press Corps, February 8

After the Hur special counsel report was released, the White House Press Corps acted in an unusual manner:

Walter Kirn:

The WH press corps got the signal tonight that it was safe to go into attack mode & make up for lost time. It duly obeyed. Reporters who once competed to throw softballs suddenly competed to hurl stones. What a weird little mob of robots. It was actually chilling to witness.

Here is the C-SPAN video

And the transcript.

I thank you, and I'll take some questions.

Q President Biden, something the special counsel said in his report is that one of the reasons you were not charged is because, in his description, you are a "well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory."

THE PRESIDENT: I am well-meaning, and I'm an elderly man, and I know what the hell I'm doing. I've been President. I put this country back on its feet. I don't need his recommendation. That's totally un- --

Q How bad is your memory? And can you continue as President?

THE PRESIDENT: My memory is so bad, I let you speak. That's the --

Q Do you --

THE PRESIDENT: That's what --

Q Do you feel your memory has gotten worse, Mr. President?

THE PRESIDENT: Now, look, my memory has not gotten -- my memory is fine. My memory -- take a look at what I've done since I've become President. None of you thought I could pass any of the things I got passed. How did that happen?

You know, I guess I just forgot what was going on.

Q Mr. President -- Mr. President --

Q Should voters have concerns about your age? How are you going to assuage them? And do you fear that this report is only going to fuel further their concerns about your age (inaudible)?

THE PRESIDENT: Only by some of you. . .

Ace wrote about some of the boo-boos Biden made in his presser. He also covered a damage control presser featuring Biden spokesman Ian Sams.

So, that weird little mob of robots was not just asking Biden about ice cream this time. Caused quite a stir.

The Press and Biden's Dementia, After February 8

The February 8 presser was isolated in time and space. I think it is worthwhile to remember its specifics, because it was unusual. It can be compared with later statements by the same folks and people who work with them. Like the people suggesting that Biden's dementia is a good thing.

After the February 8 presser, the White House also reacted:

White House deputy press secretary Andrew Bates complained about the press' recent coverage of President Biden's mental acuity after Special Counsel Robert Hur called out his memory for being "poor."

Bates took to X on Thursday to rip journalists for seeming more skeptical of Biden's old age and cognitive abilities lately in the wake of the Hur report.

Hur declined to charge Biden for his mishandling of classified documents, in part because his "poor memory" would discourage a jury from convicting him. The document sent shockwaves through D.C. and the media, with prominent outlets covering Biden's cognitive abilities in a more skeptical light than ever before.

On the other hand, Biden's defenders in the Democratic Party and in his own administration insist that Biden is fine and any evidence to the contrary is "right-wing propaganda."

Bates trashed the press, saying its own "collective memory problems" prevented them from remembering Biden's strong qualities and past "rightwing age attacks."

The press could not remember Biden's strong qualities and past "rightwing age attacks". Heh.

I did not know this about the White House deputy press secretary, either:

Last year, Bates was found to be implicated in spreading the now-discredited letter signed by 50 former intel agency officials saying that Hunter Biden's laptop and its controversial contents were a hoax whipped up by Russian disinformation agents.

This piece also notes the Puck News survey of news people about their prior concerns about Biden's mental state, which Ace covered on the 15th: "Notice they're now setting up the Modified Limited Hangout Fallback Position that while Biden is showing mental decline, he only started really showing it in the past few months."

Anyway,

When discussing the statements of politicians, political operatives or the press, I think it is important to ask

When and where did they say it? In what context?

And, thinking ahead, per James Lindsay

Who is the intended target audience for this statement?

People outside the target audience may roll their eyes at a statement that is fully accepted by the target audience.

There may be more than one target audience. The center left is a typical target audience for the White House and the MSM, but they may also be targeting some "red meat" folks on the right whom they wish to provoke into stereotypically bad behavior, to scare their base.

If there is more than one intended audience, is the speaker trying to get some people on the right to do something stupid in order to look "based"?

It may be worthwhile to point out the intended target audience or audiences to your friends. Who might care in the coming months about what the press thought about Biden's mental acuity in February, for example? Who might profit by pointing out that "the right" is attacking a feeble old man, even after the Democrats choose someone else as their leader?

Can humor help?

Miscellaneous things to think about

Story time:

*

El Salvador has a per capita GDP of $4,500 and a homicide rate of 2.4 per 100,000. The United States has a per capita GDP of $70,000 and a homicide rate of 5.5 per 100,000.

Locking up violent criminals works. Discipline, not wealth, is the key.

The future of El Salvador remains uncertain. Bukele might not last, or he might desire power beyond democracy. But the short-term implication is clear: societies with the determination to reduce crime can do so. Lock up criminals, don't solipsize over "root causes."

*

Thinking about the digital dollar here:

And the minimum wage in California should be how much?

*

And all went as planned in Afghanistan.

biden talliban gun control.jpg

*

Russia is under authoritarianism. There is no doubt about it.

The same media that exposes the political corruption in Russia mostly ignores the CCP.

Navalny was the leader of an opposition party
He was an open critic of Putin
He organized anti govt demonstrations
He ran for office
He founded the Anti-Corruption Foundation
He had supporters ...

Any of those is ABSOLUTELY an impossibility in CCP's China. Do American people know Xi's political enemies? Where are they, dead or alive? No, Americans know very little, all because of the media.

While the left is using Navalny's death to attack the conservatives for opposing the Ukraine War, the Dems are defending CCP's most powerful weapon against America, TikTok. . .

4 There's a script. The media's following it. The thing is, they only get one page at a time because the deep state's writing it as they go along.

Sometimes there are many pages. But the media, being incredibly stupid, gets one page at a time.

The script will change.

5 The next few months will only confirm that the media are nothing more than a party organ for the Ruling Party, and every newspaper, TV station and other media outlet are nothing more, nothing less than government mouthpieces.

Much like Neues Deutschland back in the day.

6 In the USA those states(90% red) that have the highest rates of incarceration also have the highest rates of homicide.
Incarceration doesn't seem to be helping them much.
Perhaps spending more on education like the blue states with low homicide rates might help?

This isn't "law enforcement" this is more like having to cope with the Reavers living in the housing authority project across town.

Bukele is most likely going to have to kill a lot of them, if not most of them.

One of the interesting bits of information is that one of the Spanish papers is saying that Bukele has a "kitchen cabinet" of ex pat Venezuelans, who fled Chavez and Maduro, who he has advising him on how to get and keep popular support, and various tactics employed by the Venezuelan state.
This apparently is the worstest thing evar to the reporters at El Pais, though Maduro and Chavez are lauded for their ability to continue to be relected and maintain power in the face of economic and political chaos.

If Harris was to move up I can see her getting a shot at first woman (black) president to satisfy the left's desire for that particular trophy, but I'm not sure she'll be able to fulfill the term before being axed.

I'd put money on Harris stepping up, but who gets her VP slot might just be the one the movers and shakers really want in the Oval Office.

60 Vox ran a piece this last week, and they usually reflect Establishment Democrat thinking, that sadly, the Dem Party was now stuck with Biden, because they had waited too long for there to be any other choice. (unless he kicks the bucket, and then its Kamala) The only democrats who think differently now are counting on some kind of Deus ex Machina at the Convention, where everyone there miraculously agrees on some other nominee, even though no one can say who that would be.

I'm not sure.

They'll certainly wedge whomever they please into that chair.

And in 2019, the dominant Kalorama faction wanted Harris. That was a pretty big dud, and they had to settle for placing her a heartbeat away from it, behind an ancient, dying thief & pervert whose eye exploded during their debate, because he was somehow, against all odds, more acceptable to the public than she was.

If I absolutely *had* to place a bet on this, I'd still bet on Harris. Jarrett & Co. started grooming her for this approximately one millisecond after she wedged Obama into that chair, and she is their creature.

But I also think the shine has worn off, and they may have buyer's remorse. Newsome or Whitmer may get slotted in instead.

But I think this time, they're stuck with Brandon - *if* they can keep his tiny little black heart pumping Adderall through his veins for six more long months.

66 The only democrats who think differently now are counting on some kind of Deus ex Machina at the Convention, where everyone there miraculously agrees on some other nominee, even though no one can say who that would be.

It won't happen at the Convention; that's too obvious. It will be decided in smoke-filled back rooms, and after it has been made plain to Joe that very bad things will happen if he doesn't drop out after he gets the nom. He WILL be the nom, but not on the ticket in November.

71 Vox ran a piece this last week, and they usually reflect Establishment Democrat thinking, that sadly, the Dem Party was now stuck with Biden, because they had waited too long for there to be any other choice. (unless he kicks the bucket, and then its Kamala) The only democrats who think differently now are counting on some kind of Deus ex Machina at the Convention, where everyone there miraculously agrees on some other nominee, even though no one can say who that would be.
(and in fact the democrat factions would rip each other to shreds)

Since when do we take Vox seriously?

If they can put anyone they want in the presidency why swap out Biden?

We aren't communist China yet. To a much lesser degree than it should the will of the people still matters in the US. They spent the 2020 campaign hiding Joe in his basement and used the media to build a fake persona for Joe, the kindly, experienced, successful legislator who would unite the country after the 4 years of chaos under OrangeManBad! Enough people bought the lie.

Reality has crushed that myth and exposed Kamala. The country won't buy either one of them as winning the election unless something changes dramatically. It would be much worse than 2020.

They need a candidate who they can at least build a plausible cause for beating Trump. They are running low on options and time.

New Jersey could pull that with Torricelli, but it won't work nationally, because it would mean 50 state by state fights to change the ballots. They would win some of those fights, but not all of them.

and that would lead to - could they win with a nominee who was only on the ballot in 23 states? Mathematically, probably, but actually? No, the country would break up.

78 Harris is very unpopular, with a certain segment of the population. I bet the audience that watches "The View" would dearly love to see Kamala in the Oval Office. So would all those idiots who wore pink "pussy" hats. So would Antifa and the hardcore left.

Think about who would actually support her presidency. A lot of them are the exact same people who are driving society into the sewer. The transgenders, the gays and all the other, disenfranchised weirdos. She's practically one of them.

But, as I said, I think she's a placeholder for whoever is chosen as her VP. That's the person who will assume the presidency when Harris "steps down." Probably sometime during 2025.

131 Russia is under authoritarianism. There is no doubt about it.

Russia is an authoritarian state headed towards totalitarianism.

China has been a totalitarian state since 1949. China has disputes among the elites, but the public isn't allowed to participate in those disputes.

An example - an anti-war candidate in Russia was allowed to collect signatures to be placed on the ballot for the presidential election next month. The Central Elections Commission disqualified him, using some pretext or another, but he was still allowed to do it.

Imagine a group of people trying that against Xi.

Actually, we don't have to imagine - Falun Gong assembled 10,000 demonstrators outside the Bejing district that housed the elite without the knowledge of the Chinese Communist Party in 1999 - the CCP completely freaked out at an anti-Party demonstration occurring without them knowing about it beforehand, and sentenced them all to long prison terms.

133 Bukele is most likely going to have to kill a lot of them, if not most of them.

Tucker's recent interview made it clear that is exactly what they are. It is a very organized censorship/propaganda machine put in place. The new narrative replaces "democracy" (where voters choose leaders) the the New Democracy where "the democratic institutions" must be protected.

The Media is one of those official Institutions that must be protected at all cost. The Atlantic Council and other globalist powers are also part of the machine. "Misinformation" (i.e. telling the truth) is now a terrorist act.

Oh I've been saying the CIA has been running our foreign policy and to a large extent enforcing who can and can't be president based on their support for their chosen policy for a very long time. The CIA was created for regime change and under Dulles they became more powerful than their host. It was Brennan who was the real mover behind the coup attempt on Trump not the FBI. Brennan created what he called a "fusion team" made up of CIA and FBI to filter foreign dirt to the FBI, the domestic unit.

But they needed another domestic organization to run their ops through and in this case it is CISA. CISA was the one using censorship to prevent "foreign interference in our elections" and they got to say what was foreign interference.

Bates has been around for quite sometime. (See National Press Foundation, Andrew Bate. In part, "He has gone from interning for Congressman Brad Miller and working on the presidential campaigns of Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton and Joe Biden to joining President Biden’s White House press staff.")

IMHO the press briefing went as planned by Bates, FLOTUS, Chris Coons, & several others tapped to run his 2024 campaign. (FLOTUS is doing an almost identical act & speech for donor solicitations.) I was surprised Fox's Peter Doocy of the WH Press Pool was briefly queried afterwards & seemed quite careful not to categorize Biden as either angry or dottering during.

2/7/24, WH released "Notice on the Continuation of the National Emergency with Respect to the Situation in and in Relation to Burma" and, "Message to the Congress on the Continuation of the National Emergency with Respect to the Widespread Humanitarian Crisis in Afghanistan and the Potential for a Deepening Economic Collapse in Afghanistan" signed by Biden. (Originated by Executive Orders)

I was watching a right leaning youtuber, one of these people that is worried that in the "inevitable" reaction to current leftist insanity we might go to far the other way. Anyway he remarked in passing about the great benefits that women entering the workforce in mass in the 60s had financially for everyone.

And...the data says the exact opposite.

We went from one primary wage earner providing enough for a family of 4 or more to needing two wage earners and side hustles to provide for a "family" of two.

One of those things I think we can say Pootin was clearly lying about, is when he said he wasn't finished yet, because he wants to de-nazify Ukraine.

I don't believe he gives a shit whether the nazzies stick around the Ukraine he's going to leave for Ukraine to govern.

He has what he wants. He's just waiting for the U.S. to come to the negotiating table, which our current regime says they won't do. So, fine. More dead Ukraines. And Pootin doesn't care about that either.

I'm sure it's all propaganda from one side or the other (including our own propaganda outlets and the junta.) But the fact is, Ukraine isn't running away with a "win." Even with all the ammo, the intel and whatnot we've provided, the Ukrainian military just wasn't up to the challenge.

The graft and corruption is partially to blame. It's also why our political class has been so adamant about funding the war. Of the hundreds of billions of dollars we've thrown at Ukraine billions upon billions have returned, freshly laundered, right into the politician's pockets.

The house I grew up in outside of Perth Amboy NJ was 750 square feet. Dad was the sole wage earner until 1956, when mom went out to work so we could afford a car. The message here? People bought and lived in houses that could afford at that time. And, they were happy to have their "own little home". Many were first generation Americans (like my parents) who lived through the depression and thrust into WW2. Being able to actually own their own home was a dream their parents could not realize.

If you save you are losing value to inflation. If you borrow you have all that wealth and goods, and you work to pay it off just like if you were saving for it.
Most people want to be virtuous in a way that doesn't mean they lose 10-15% of their savings in a year and maybe the EPA will outlaw what they want by the time they can afford it.

I feel "Americans have lost their virtue and must be punished by their actions" is such a Puritan attitude.

The home I came home from the hospital to was maybe 1,200 square foot - my Dad did a lot of the construction. One bathroom. We moved to a maybe a 1,500 sq foot house just to get that second bathroom and a garage. My Mom was stay-at-home.

Now the average house is something greater then 2,400 sq feet and the couple both have jobs.

Truth be told I have a home some multiple over that but it was a decision to use that 4% average appreciation in real estate as a way of banking money. It worked for us, both with good jobs, but just barely.

Think 'kids' nowadays can find homes that small? In my area they go for $400,000 for barely 1,000 sq foot. Takes about $100,000 in family income to cover the mortgage.

There is just so much wrong and incorrect about what you said, I don't know where to start.
Putin is very much WEF. A lot of his "plans" for Russia coincide with WEF.
I very much DOUBT that Russia's manufacturing capacity exceeds the US. They only have about 160 million people. The US population is almost twice that (at least).
Battle hardened or battle weary? They are using old T-62 tanks because many of the T-72M and T80M tanks got kilt. They are making a lot of artillery shells, that's for sure. And small arms ammo.
I don't hate Russia, and do not love or care for Ukraine. But this "war" is a contrived event (quite real for the men who are fighting and dying), to create more world chaos.

A parallel take: They move Joe out soon and Kamala becomes president.
She will serve out Joe's term but in the meantime TPTB will select this year's candidate and it won't be Kamala. However, President Harris will leave office as the first female president of the US and the first black female president of US with all the perquisites, benefits and all due respect given to a past president.
This will satisfy her ambitions.
