Very proud of his medal. He even pins it on his bathrobe.

Posted by: mrp at February 12, 2024 09:47 AM (rj6Yv)

60 I'm sure there is some story behind this painting. I don't know but it's clear the artist is ridiculing the man or his position in society. At first I thought the stuff in his hair were curling papers but combined with the quasi Roman orator pose and 'toga' bathrobe they might represent, in a silly way, a laurel wreath. Part of the humor is the man's grand pose versus the small, cluttered room and the woman's slightly mocking smile.

I really like the artist's skill: realistic, wonderful use of color and light, and able to capture an emotional element. Although from many years before, it reminds me of some Norman Rockwell paintings when he is having characters acting playful in an exaggerated way.

64 Jokes aside, this is a finely detailed painting with neat textures and highlights. See the boot or whatever she's holding and his uniform coat, for example. And the room is really filled out -- the clutter on the folded table, the cat sharpening his claws on the seat cushion, the medal and ribbon on his robe, the little mirror on the table. This is the sort of good work a solid set decorator does on a film or stage play, to suggest that lives are being lived in this room.

Posted by: andycanuck (2yu8s) at February 12, 2024 09:50 AM (2yu8s)

69 I don't really see ridicule in the scene. I see a man who's celebrating that he just got his commission or whatever, and he's joking around, puffing up like he's the Conquering Hero now, and his wife is truly proud but also thinking "oh, you silly goose"

80 The more I look at today's painting, the more I enjoy the artist's use of color. The dark background really makes the man pop out from the canvas for the viewer. And it makes the points of color like the bird cage, the table and the many other props stand out, adding to the detail that lets Fedotov present his humor with the contrast of the 'grandeur' and the lower class clutter.

Wife's best friend gets pregnant and she begins to abstain from smoking, drinking or using her hot tub.

A few weeks later, she send my wife a picture of her husband in their hot tub, smoking a cigar and drinking Scotch.

Now, when my wife got pregnant, I was a team player and didn't drink (I can take it or leave it). That pic put me on such a pedestal. I really should've sent him a thank you card.

105 After a judge moved to strip Elon Musk of $55 billion dollars in compensation from Tesla, he went online and advised business owners to not incorporate in Delaware. He suggested they consider incorporating in either Texas or Nevada. Now, barely two weeks later, the world's richest man has decided to take his own advice. Musk announced this week that his brain implant company, Neuralink, has reincorporated in Nevada. Similarly, Musk sent a proposal to the shareholders of Tesla urging them to vote for incorporation in Texas. You can apparently only push some people around so much before they take their ball and go home. The $55 billion cash grab was obviously a bridge too far for Elon Musk.

It seems like one of those intimate moments in marriage when the husband does his goofy impression of being the king of his home and the wife just rolls her eyes and smiles and says "put the bread on the table, your majesty". 186 So if the Special Counsel says that pOTUS won't be charged with crimes because of his dementia, that doesn't mean that crimes weren't committed. Yet that seems to be the tactic of not only the pOTUS but the press. This case is closed and he's been exonerated in their eyes. Never explained is the difference between what Trump did and what biden did, yet Trump is "obviously" guilty and the case against Biden closed. We're not talking about it anymore.

Of course there's the fallout about his now obvious dementia which has only gotten worse since Joetato opened his pie hole the other night.

Still, it bugs me that Hur said that the evidence showed clear proof of crimes committed, yet no charges means innocence to the leftist press and no examination of what he actually did shows up. SMH.

244 The Senate is working to pass a $95.3 billion bill with assistance for Ukraine and Israel, but it may be days until a vote as Rand Paul of Kentucky has vowed to use complex chamber rules to slow the bill.

I agree what Schumer is doing but the Magat/Putin party wants Russia to win the war in Ukraine because it will hurt Biden and because they take orders from a Putin puppet. Congressional Magats won't agree to any more aid to Ukraine.

Dear Rand Paul, your question, "[Why is] the border of Ukraine is more important than the US border" makes no sense. There was a bill on the US border. The borders are different. Borders are important. The closer one is to a border, the more it may feel important.

Repugs don't realize that if Ukraine falls, greater security is at risk. NATO costs will rise if we lose Ukraine, as well as increasing risks to places the Baltic states and Poland...the EU part of NATO needs time to rebuild its military capabilities. Ukraine is paying for our sins-- not resisting Putin's Crimea takeover in 2014 and other of his police actions on border states and expansionism into the Middle East (Syria).

Watch what YOU want. Don't let anyone make decisions for you. Be informed as to why some others don't do/watch/buy something - but make your own choices. Most of the Horde seems to abide by personal choice. Yes, we razz each other and trash talk, but if one doesn't respect personal freedom of choice, then eff 'em.

They. are. not. Christian. We need to stop using that term. There is NOTHING Christian about them Nothing. Call them nationalist. White nationalist. Pieces of shit. Whatever, but they are not Christian.

Political Christians rather than Christians of faith. Politics and religion use each other to gain power and wealth.

Does KKKrishtun work for you? Anti-Jesus as can be. If they weren't, they would support healthcare, social justice etc, but they don't.

353 Disney has decided to punish its animation studio for Wish bombing by moving the work north to Canada for Moana 2

Dear Disney, the problem isn't the animators...

I used to watch Baseball but lost interest.. My Daughter and family are huge Niners fans.. Was afraid to talk to her this morning... LOL.... One thing about Purdy... He's young and refreshingly religious... All around nice guy from what I read...

357 Lakewood Church Shooter Stopped by Good Guy with Gun

Off-duty deputies working a second gig. Don't get me wrong, grateful they were there. But LEO just the same.

Have they officially confirmed the shooter was indeed armed? The news I read this morning seemed to waffle on that. The shooter did claim to have a bomb, and did pour/spray some liquid around.

The reason we don't have football threads is because the cobs who did them got bored. I was one of them.

Posted by: From about that Time

Nope. I used to watch Wimbledon for the McEnroe meltdown. I used to enjoy ice hockey, baseball, and the Olympics. Nowadays I don't bother with sports much. Just kinda lost interest in them.

364 theres no general thing about no nfl discussion,

Yes there is. We used to have game threads for NFL games. Now it is a verboten topic which is dumb.

Sure, football and every other entertainment option we have has been infected to some degree by wokeism but only football and to a lesser degree other sports have been deemed unclean.

Hollywood is far worse. Wokeism is now the essence of what they do but it is still considered kosher.

what is duh for $100? I mentioned that there were football threads, so? There's nothing that says no discussing football, the best evidence for this is the discussion in comments.

why somebody would watch the nfl when they hate you, that's a different thing

367 Why is the go-to insult of Democrats to add "KKK" to everything when the KKK has always been the armed wing of the Democrat party?

369 @323 Since Robert Osborne passed away, the TCM intros have been garbage.

Homosexuals Then And Now.
But then, in addition to their acceptably radical New Faces, TCM has lost access to its former film catalogue. Some of them may have gone up in the Universal Fire, the rest with some mergers to a competitor who chooses not to 'share.' They're fresh out of classics over there. And, blacklist blacklist blacklist.

375 Also, note the shaving cup with a brush in it and the red-backed shaving mirror. He's just shaved, so that may be part of the "fresh" reference as well.
