I've always found the Subaru lesbian thing funny. I grew up in a very snowy climate and every other car on the road in winter seemed to be a Subaru. At the time it was one of the very few AWD options (along with Audis but much cheaper). Having a beater Subaru for winter was kind of SOP for every family.

53 Very somber painting. You can sense the quiet restraint that exists between the two of them. The hands on the sister in the forefront are unusual, but I learned here that hands are difficult to paint. I wouldn’t hang this painting, but I do like it.

The rendering of the flesh is quite nice as well as the detail of the hands, although he kind of tuckered out when he was painting the hand around the waist as it's more of suggested form and definition than anything.

87 @48 Montec-same here. I grew up in the Reno/Tahoe area. Lot of Subaru's, especially the Brat back in the day with the pickup type bed and rearward facing seats.

Now here in the Bay Area every Subie is a purple or blue hair driving it with leftwing bumper stickers pasted all over the back. Always with the rainbow sticker.

This work was well-shown but highly criticized for its technique, and then, as these things will go, the artist suddenly became Great.

119 An interesting portrait on several levels. The young women are handsome but not idealized. There is a sense of comfortable intimacy (I'm not talking about lesbians) between the two which is furthered by the way Thayer merges parts of their figures. And there is a protectiveness from the shorter, older sister in the way she holds the younger one's waist. The background is bland but not disruptive which allows the figures to stand out. And their skin tones, while natural, almost seem to glow against the background and the dark clothing, another way to focus the viewer's attention on the sisters.

Their facial expressions catch my attention. Both are composed but looking at something with mild anticipation. Perhaps they are meeting young men in the next room or wondering what they will encounter through the doorway.

"No crashes in election years" doesn't match reality. As much as the Fed or the Street might not want one, they are not omnipotent.

They couldn't stop a downturn in 2000 (the one that would become the 2001 dotcom crash) during an election year.
They couldn't stop the financial crisis in 2007-2009, with the major crash happening during an election year.
They couldn't generate a downturn in 2016 during an election year.
They couldn't engineer the COVID losses back in during 2020, which was an election year.

Much more than that. The 1987 crash was about 30%. At a 38K index today that would mean about 11K downturn.

Today's 500 point swing is nothing. It's a typical day. Way too many people still have a Dow 5-10K mindset where a few hundred points is a big deal.

Power of and. I dunno about entertainment, but high tech took on massive workforce expansions during the COVID stupids, and a lot of that is being unwound now. And the market is tightening. Not stocks - not yet, anyway - but the real market where commerce happens. In my sector - business-to-business technology products - we're seeing our customers (that is, other enterprises) tightening their budgets and reducing spending. It feel like the start of a retrenchment, at least in my industry.

That's obviously the plan.

But they've run out of knobs to twiddle and levers to throw. The May want to paper over the impending disaster until next year, but it won't work. Every tool they have at their disposal is tapped out. They can't keep throwing funny money at the banks anymore. The economy needs real value, and it needs it now, but nothing the junta would find politically acceptable can create real value.

Their only play they have left is to limp along as best they can, and gradually pivot to "Trump is inevitable that's why the economy is tanking".

That's my hunch.

It was not a private school, it was once-weekly instruction in Hebrew and religious instruction. Around Bar Mitzvah time, it was twice a week - the regular religious school and a special Bar Mitzvah class as well.

More like "Sunday School." There are Jewish private schools more like Catholic schools, but I didn't attend one.

Last night the lovely and musically-inclined Mrs naturalfake and i saw-

David Sanborn in concert. (for the first time since 86-87 in Hong Kong with Pat Metheny and Miles Davis)

Wholley Kau!!!! Was that a great show!!!

His playing was exceptional and the band was red-hot great solos all through the night, I strongly urge you to go if he's in your area.

If you're unfamiliar with David Sanborn, he basically played with every single major rock and jazz star in the 70s-90s and on their biggest albums. His saxophone playing/style is immediately recognizable.

I honestly hope they put out an album of these live tour cuz I'd snap it up immediately.

On the sad side, this may be his last hurrah because he had to0 be helped to walk on stage and sat in a chair the whole time.

Regardless, his playing was great and so was the band. You will have a good time.

357 I've never seen The Sisters painting before now and it didn't especially grab my attention at first glance. After studying it, it can have some personal meaning to me and so I would hang it.

As I 'confess' here on occasion, I lost my (younger & only) sister February 2015. When I got that 0630 am call, I already had airline tickets to Florida for the following AM because I had originally planned to fly down as our mom had been placed on hospice. Only registering the 386 prefix of the phone number calling & it flashed in my mind I had screwed up badly and missed the opportunity. So, yeah, it was a shocker the call was about Sis.

In Florida, despite the arrangements I had to make concerning my sister's passing, I was with our mom in the afternoons & into the nights until she passed less than a week later, February 14th.

It's not as bad as it might seem for I had opportunities to say goodbye to both. And, after sometime thereafter, came to believe it was probably destiny for the three of us.

Sort of like retard tennis for those approaching 29.

And unsurprisingly, there was some over 29 ex-tennis pros there who have dropped tennis but taken up pickleball.

Our neighborhood has a near 30 pickleball courts that are always busy.

My wife's Chiropractor (main office 50 miles away) has opened a new clinic here to deal solely to deal with pickleball related injuries. Shoulders, knees, ankles and overestimation of one's abilities are a dangerous combo.
