  • More like this, perhaps: The Frame smart glasses from Brilliant Labs are augmented-reality goggles that don't look like your head is being eaten by a coconut crab. (The Verge)

At $349 and 40 grams they're one tenth the price and one fifteenth the weight of Apple's Vision Pro. They're about the size and weight of regular eyeglasses, and you can add prescription lenses for an extra $99.

The shortcoming is that the AR display is only 640x400 and covers a small part of your vision, but that's really what you want when you're actually using them in everyday life. Just a little area that can show you an urgent message, or directions to where you're headed, or identify the snake that just bit you because you were looking at the AR display rather than where you were walking.

Although, similarly enough to remind me of this: In my neighborhood, there are no major problems with the sidewalk UNTIL you get to a little driveway where either 1) a car will be pulled all the way up, so you have to go around the car or 2) a car will be pulled almost all the way up, exposing an uncapped drain that you might step into, in the dark, so you have to go around the car. So, walking with a friend at night and I was walking around the car and he said, "Why are you doing that?" and I at least got him to take out his phone and light up the capless drain before going around the car.

13 Evening and morning to all the insomaniacals and early "slaving over a hot stove" people! It's Mawdi Grass weekend, it's 66 F. with a high today about 75 (gah!), and I really did not sleep enough last night. On the other hand, yesterday I reviewed my taxes and am due for a big honking refund, so there's that.

Coffee now. Workout a little later. Then breakfast. That's about as far ahead as I need to look right now.

On the whole, it was a solid interview.

There were no major revelations but it was a glimpse into the mind of the Russian leader, his motivations, his views on geopolitics, his view on Russian/Western relations.

Tucker didn't ask him typical journo questions like, if you were a tree what type of tree would you be, or do you get enough you time with the war and all.

So its worth watching from that standpoint alone.

93 Putin interview reinforced my belief that the situation is far more complex than the media would have you believe. It's not just "Putin invaded Ukraine, Putin bad". And he kept going back to "we had a deal worked out and the UK PM convinced them not to sign"

I know a lot of people have come to expect Hannity levels of interruption of interviewees but Tucker chose to do the most rare of things, he let his subject talk, for as long as he liked, with minimal interruptions.

It was refreshing quite frankly.

96 But the interview... the man sure likes the sound of his own voice

-

I hear that's a Russian trait, but I also assumed that was intentional and in part making fun of the President of the United States' inability to appear before anyone and talk for more than two seconds without notes and before breaking down and needing to rest for sixteen hours.

It was to show he could, and could do it well, and could do it for hours if needed.

A "flex" as the kids say.

167 Some languages don't have a word for "Yes" or "No" directly, like Irish. You just repeat the verb of the question in positive or negative form. Some have those words but they're reserved for strenuous agreement or denial, and sound weird if used casually. I can't think of any examples. Japanese is sort of kind of the opposite. In casual speech they'll say "-nai", which is a verb ending meaning negation but not really a word itself, just a morpheme, but they'll use it as a stand alone word anyway if being informal. Probably scads of other better examples i'm just not aware of.

Putin: I had a very good relationship with, say, Bush. I know that in the United States he was portrayed as some kind of a country boy who does not understand much. I assure you that is not the case. I think he made a lot of mistakes with regard to Russia, too. I told you about 2008 and the decision in Bucharest to open the NATO’s doors
to for Ukraine and so on. That happened during his presidency. He actually exercised pressure on the Europeans.
But in general, on a personal human level, I had a very good relationship with him. He was no worse than any other American, or Russian, or European politician. I assure you, he understood what he was doing as well as others. I had such personal relationships with Trump as well.

These media appearances by a publicly-elected prosecutor are incredibly improper, but more importantly, they were designed to tear down the defendants’ pre-trial constitutional protections,” the filing said. “This case should be, and could have been, tried on the evidence admitted at trial. Because of the actions of the district attorney, however, that is no longer possible. The damage is already done.”

It actually derives from "hund red", or "dog ride", in Anglo-Saxon. The notables of the area would map out a course through the forest and have dog races, and the owner of the winning dog could keep any other dog in the field they liked. Much like the concept of racing for pink slips. In time, the area within the course and the people who lived there was called a "hundred", or later, "hundreds".

262 BBC, "Nazi" reference:

Mr Putin claimed that Poland - which was invaded by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union in 1939 - "collaborated with Hitler".
The Russian president told his interviewer that by refusing to cede an area of Poland called the Danzig Corridor to Hitler, Poland "went too far, pushing Hitler to start World War Two by attacking them".
For Prof Prazmowska, President Putin's interpretation of history is a flawed reading of the historical record. She says that while it is true that there were diplomatic contacts between Poland and the Nazis - the first treaty Hitler signed after coming to power was a non-aggression pact with Poland in 1934 - Mr Putin is conflating diplomatic outreach to a threatening neighbour with collaboration.
"The accusation that the Poles were collaborating is nonsense," says Mrs Prazmowska.
"You can't interpret these things as if this were collaboration with Nazi Germany, because it just so happened that the Soviet Union also signed treaties with Germany [at the same time]."
In September 1939, Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union invaded Poland according to the terms of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact signed between both states earlier that year.

From my experience the cost of the transaction is between 2 and 4%. It is the actual cost for the financial institution that includes things like holding cash, managing the accounts and charge-backs. The banks also charge it, but it is in what they get off the top.

I am told the cheapest way of doing it is through some crypto exchanges, but there is some cost there, including those customers who won't touch it. It is cheaper because there is not a layer of banking on top of it, it is peer-to-peer and the same sort of cost savings between USPS letters and emails. With all the associated risks, as well.

hahaha, this is poetry.

I try not to go to our post office because we've got a lady that works there that is a really attractive MILFy type and she makes me feel all funny. It's best for me and all my relationships if I just avoid that place entirely.

Oh man, imagine how much less mail you'd get if the mailman had to bother unlocking your mailbox.

Doesn't work that way. You need the key to unlock it and retrieve mail. It then remains empty and unlocked until mailman opens it and puts mail in. When he closes it it then locks.

349 Has anyone had a piece of mail, one with sensitive financial info (like a statement from your investment firm or bank) come up missing... only to be delivered days later, all taped up after it had been opened?

Is there anyway to find out where it got delivered by mistake? Other than interrogating the mail carrier... which would probably be pointless.

350 For years at work, we let our postal carrier chill for a bit, have a coffee, use the loo, take a break in our lounge.

Then COVID came and for nine months he dumped the mail in a cardboard box at the front door, making our people deliver mail to 100 apartments.

I don't let that POS have a drink of water now.

Ah, that makes sense. I assumed it would be for both parties since once the kids found out they'd be routinely locking it for you when they rode by on their bikes.

352 HAve a wonderful day, everyone.

I've got Super Bowl party preps ahead.

May you party hardy, and not have Taylor Swift enter conversations.

The White House reporters can’t think for themselves.
It’s all groupthink.
Very few have the backbone to challenge the Mean Girls controlling the system.
Today they all decided to be outraged after the public skewered them yesterday for their 3 years of protecting Biden.

355 Trump's picks that didn't require confirmation were fine. The confirmation process gave us the crap.

“My memory is fine.”
“I am not a crook.”
It took Nixon five words to say something that helped bring down his presidency.
It took Biden only four.

Only way I'll watch any of it will be hilights if SF wins and Brock Purdy has a great game.
Mostly for the post game interview with him.
