Biden's plan was just to hope these relentless attacks never managed to kill any US troops. Hope is not a plan, as you may have heard, and now three Americans are dead. David Strom writes that even the c***s***er New York Times admits that Biden's refusal to check Iran encouraged them to keep attacking us until the took American lives. The New York Times has an analysis written by Peter Baker that exposes just how feckless the Biden Administration has been in dealing with Iranian proxies. The lede makes it blindingly obvious that Biden and his administration knew that American troops would get killed. Yet their responses to the nearly 200 attacks on Americans since 10/7 have been "carefully calibrated"--read weak--in the vain hope that showing restraint would somehow, magically, prevent the day that Americans would die from coming. Now that American blood has been spilled, Biden can indulge his favorite past-time: Lying about Beau Biden being killed in honorable combat.
Biden sheds tears and calls for truce, telling Republican Speaker Mike Johnson 'We must not be enemies' as they listen to Andrea Bocelli sing 'Amazing Grace' at National Prayer Breakfast in Washington 'We have really tough, tough differences,' Biden said. 'We really go at one another. Remember, let's remember who the hell we are who we are.' It would be wise for Biden and the Democrats to occasionally remember that. We are not Ukrainians, Mexicans, Salvadorians, Peruvians, or Palestinians. ... The two men sat next to each other in the front row and each teared up when Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli sang 'Amazing Grace.' Both Johnson and Biden were seen wiping away a tear. The National Prayer Breakfast is a yearly event where the president and elected officials come together to pray. In his remarks, Biden offered his prayers to the families of the three soldiers killed in Jordan over the weekend, for those being held hostage in Gaza and for the people of the Ukraine. But he also offered poignant words to the lawmakers sitting together in Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol building. Both Democrats and Republicans attended the event. 'This is a calling to stand against hate,' he said, noting the animosity in politics and in the world. After you, Alphonse. This guy demonizes MAGA normie voters as terrorists, but he says he wants us to "stand against hate." 'We must not be enemies,' he noted. 'I've long believed we have to look at each other, even on our most challenging times, not as enemies but as fellow Americans.' 'My prayer, my hope is we continue to believe our best days are ahead of us as a nation. We continue to believe in honesty, decency, dignity and respect. We see each other not as enemies but as fellow human beings.' You've never believed that in your life.

Let that sink in. At no point in this conflict has Biden done anything proactively to give Iran pause and to induce them to rethink their strategy. They knew Iran was going to bring things to this point, yet they struck buildings and ignored anything thrown at us or others if no damage was caused.
========== Let this sink in: When Biden assumed office, Iran was in financial straights, the sanctions from the previous administration having worked incredibly, along with the lower gas prices which prevented them from raising funds through the black market. And then Biden raised almost all sanctions, went to war with American energy production, and his State Department gave Iran the green flag to do whatever it wanted. This is happened despite Biden's genius at foreign policy, I guess. Posted by: TheJamesMadison, walking with hope in America with Frank Capra at February 01, 2024 04:20 PM (GBKbO) 7

He's wildly off with his music, especially at the beginning, and really doesn't stay on beat most of the way through. He also doesn't bother emoting much, and looks like a guy hungover for most of the song. That said - tonally and range wise, he's world-class. Okay, here's a spot of good news:
Over 500 journalists were laid off from news outlets in January, according to a new report released Thursday, as many organizations continue to struggle financially. The layoffs reflect the grim state of the news business. In January alone, the industry — including print, broadcast and digital media — saw 538 announced layoffs, according to the report from Challenger, Gray & Christmas. The job cuts come after an already bleak year. The news industry shed 3,087 digital, broadcast and print news jobs in 2023 — the highest annual total since 2020, when 16,060 cuts were recorded. http://tinyurl.com/4upe5kty Posted by: Archimedes at February 01, 2024 04:51 PM (CsUN+) 154
> Anti-ship missile gets within a mile -- five seconds -- of hitting the US Gravely. Only the CWIS, the final defense, shot it down. Again, eventually, God forbid, a missile gets through.
________________ I read that it can take 3-5 anti-air missiles to take down an anti-ship cruise missile. They ships typically fire off a couple/several at once to assure a hit. In this case there was apparently something that prohibited them from firing... no radar lock or a tracking problem. In any case we're using a LOT of anti-air missiles, some of which we have very few of in reserve, to shoot down missiles and drones fired by Iranian proxies. Looking down the road at possible conflicts in the ME with Iran and possible responsibilities regarding Taiwan, these are weapons we can't afford (in any way) to waste on this sort of shit. Hit the launchers and the weapons depots in Iran and it stops. Posted by: Martini Farmer at February 01, 2024 04:51 PM (Q4IgG) 155

Trump is the only figure (right now) who could possibly start something like that at a national level, but he's not going to do it. If it happens, it'll be in reaction to some state level GOP failure so large that the entire GOP base just rejects it outright and someone...anyone...offers a real conservative alternative.
