The Torre Guinigi is a tower in Lucca, Tuscany, central Italy. It is a typical example of local Romanesque-Gothic architecture. The height of the tower is 45 meters with a total of 233 steps to reach the top.
The tower dates from the 1300s, when a number of wealthy families were building bell towers within the walls of Lucca as status symbols. It is one of the few remaining towers within the walls. It is known for the tall trees (holm oaks) growing on top of the tower.

I walked up to the top of a tower in Lucca but I don't remember any trees so maybe I went up a different one. What a dope, going up the less cool tower.

Here's a photo of the tower at full height. It says the photo was taken from another tower. That must have been the one I went up.

George and Puff went to the doggie chiropractor today for adjustment. Both behaved very well for 10-week-old puppies. I apologized when Puff squirmed a bit. She said Puff had better manners than most of the adult dogs they treat.

17 We visited Lucca in 2022. It's a very nice city, just north of Pisa and about an hour west of Florence. Since it is not as touristy as Pisa, food and prices are better. The composer Giacomo Puccini was born there, and the house is open for tourists. The also have a lot of preserved medieval buildings.

127 Murmuring of starlings-- When MiladyJo first came to Oklahoma, on the drive out of Tulsa, we would see great swarms of birds, not as thick and swirly as in the video, but quite a stream from horizon to horizon.

Tulsa was smaller. The countryside was less inhabited, pastures now gone to housing. The highway was only two-lane. That and who knows what-all else changed their migratory patterns or populations, but we haven't seen such swarms in decades. Miss 'em.
