Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Biden's Third-Year Approval Rating the Worst Since... No, GuessA Reuters-Ipsos poll finds Trump with a six point lead on Biden, but there's a big catch: Trump only has 40% support, which, as a proud graduate of Track 2 math, I can tell you is not a majority. Or even close to one. If that 18% really doesn't vote, then Trump's 40% becomes, at the polls, close to 50%. But that's a big if. Consider that Biden's poll numbers are particularly depressed right now because the left wants him to support Hamas' From the River to The Sea Jewish extermination policy. Will they vote for Trump -- who imposed the so-called Muslim Travel Ban -- because of anger at Biden about his "support" for Israel? Doubtful. A lot of this "I won't vote for Biden" stuff is just bluffing. Partisans say that early in general election season, but tend to "come home" by the fall. Also, you can bet huge money that Reid Hoffman and George Soros and the Koch network will fund a "credible" Republican challenger to run as an independent for the express purpose of taking votes from Trump and allowing Biden to win states with 34-38% of the votes. Who will it be? Well, it will likely be Romney. He's a real cocksucker and will be proud to run a spoiler campaign to get his fren Biden re-elected. ... Trump's six-point lead held even when respondents were given the option of voting for third-party candidates, including anti-vaccine activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr., with Trump drawing 36% support, Biden 30% and Kennedy 8%.Right. But add Romney to the mix, and the numbers change. Utah will be gone, for one. .. Overall, the poll gave numerous signs that voters are not happy with their choices.Speaking of: Liberal Democrat billionaire Reid Hoffman, who was, I believe, Nikki Haley's biggest backer, has suspended his donations to her. Hoffman has said he'll vote for President Joe Biden in November but backed Haley financially because his "first priority is to defeat Trump." The Democratic donor gave $250,000 to Stand For America Fund Inc. last year, a pro-Haley super PAC, the New York Times reported. "Prior to the primaries, we made an investment in Gov. Haley because we saw that her performance in New Hampshire might give her a path to defeating Donald Trump," Hoffman's political philanthropy adviser Dmitri Mehlhorn told Fox News. But Mehlhorn said the LinkedIn co-founder needs to see a "path to victory" before making another donation to the former United Nations ambassador. The Koch network is standing by their neocon open-borders loose-in-the-snootch gal-- for now. A conservative group that has spent millions backing Nikki Haley's presidential campaign says it isn't giving up on her -- but acknowledges she faces an "uphill" battle and that it's focusing on Senate races. Why it matters: AFP Action, a super PAC that has pushed for a Republican alternative to GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump, has said it would "redouble" its efforts to back Senate candidates if it appeared Trump would be the Republican nominee. The group -- part of the Americans for Prosperity network founded by billionaire Charles Koch and his late brother, David -- fears a Trump nomination would be a massive drag on other Republicans on the November ballot. I live in Utah, and ol Romney kind of wore out his welcome.
Utah put him in in the first place because he did do a great job with the Salt Lake Olympics. But his whole "Tortured Independent" path did not endear him much to all the voters except leftists. Democrats are Romney's main support here in Utah now. There's a reason he isn't running for reelection. And it's entirely possible, indeed likely, that he gets called or assigned to be a mission leader for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He'd make a great leader for the Church in France, actually. If he gets called into church leadership, his political career is over. Posted by: GanGanowicz at January 29, 2024 04:56 PM (AxRGS) 16

"None of the above" is a perfectly valid response even if it's not printed on a ballot. All the conventional wisdom goes out the window when Trump is the nominee. Any other Republican would have put Biden away (including ones I strongly dislike) but with Trump, all bets are off.
I still say you need the backdrop of an economic panic to put Trump in the WH, I just don't see it unfolding in the next 10 months. Economy is stronger now than it was in 2022, and we saw how that went. Unemployment is under 4%, stock market all time high, gas prices down significantly, etc. Obama got reelected when unemployment was around 8%. I am though optimistic about one thing, Trump is not going to go down over the abortion issue. We all know deep down, he's very pro-choice. Posted by: Blago at January 29, 2024 04:59 PM (wMRY8) 22

Let me stipulate for the record that polls are useless.
Also, if the poll doesn't factor in the level of "unexpected" ballots in certain key states then they'll be wrong. Of course the answer to that is to tighten the polls as the election draws nearer. Posted by: GanGanowicz ======= Considering the vast fortune that the LDS church has and Mitt's familiarity with how a hedge fund operates, it is very possible. A third party usually works against the party in power as the disaffected don't go for the party in power but some will vote for a third party in opposition to the incumbent. Now, I know that the MSM has taken Trump's tweets and editorialized around them to make them obnoxious or incendiary, but it was my casual observation that his tweets taken in context were just fine. I just never delved into it more deeply than that. A lib friend of mine told me one of her main reasons to vote Democrat was because of reproductive freedom. I said, you mean "abortion", which she acknowledged. Then I asked if she knew what the health code was in NY. She said you mean "law". I said, no, Democrats moved it too the health code and out of the criminal code. I then told her the "no excuse" abortion period was six months. She called me a liar, until she looked it up. Then when I showed her the "exceptions" pretty much allowed abortion up until birth she was speechless.
There's a lot of education that needs to happen. Start explaining some of these things to people. Perhaps we may never agree on abortion, but the actual details of what are allowed matter. Posted by: Marcus T at January 29, 2024 05:28 PM (ifHdv) 186

The America We Deserve
"The Trump administration is quietly helping states defund Planned Parenthood" On January 19, 2018, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, part of the Department of Health and Human Services, issued a short letter rescinding the Obama administration’s 2016 guidance, arguing that it “limited states’ flexibility with regard to establishing reasonable Medicaid provider qualification standards.” The new letter doesn’t change the law; instead, it explains how the Trump administration plans to interpret and enforce it. Essentially, the Trump administration is signaling that it considers stripping Medicaid funding from Planned Parenthood to be at least potentially legal, and is probably not going to try to stop states from doing it. That opens the door for states to keep Medicaid patients, many of whom are low-income, from using their insurance coverage at Planned Parenthood clinics. 292 Oh wow,
I just noticed. All five FEMALE supreme court justices voted against Texas in the border case Homeland Sec v. Texas. Posted by: Gentlemen Misconception. It was not a 'case' but a judicial ruling over whether the district court judge could issue a preliminary injunction. So you only got a per curiam order with no reasoning that dissolved the preliminary injunction. If the Border Patrol actually moved to cut the wire, then the facts of injury to Texas would no longer be speculative in a case. Preliminary injunctions to prevent something require a) irreparable harm in waiting for the court to resolve the case and b) a strong likelihood that you will win the case when heard by the district court. High legal std. to meet for an injunction. The court order presupposes no ruling and creates no precedent but merely maintains the status quo. But, the ironic thing is that the Border Patrol wants no part of cutting the wire leaving the junta frustrated with its minions as judicial jeopardy of losing the district court case lingers as well as political damage if Biden orders them to cut the wire directly and publicly. That kind of gels with why I believe Abbot's statement was so great. It leaves him plenty of wiggle room to deny violating a court order (which in point-of-fact he did not), while also virtually daring Biden to take action that could sink his re-election chances once-and-for-all. Realpolitik that would make any 70s-era diplomat proud. Posted by: Gryph at January 29, 2024 06:03 PM (aCVzN) 314
If George Wallace hadn't run in '68, Hubert Humphrey have won.

I'm calling it right now, after the primaries, you will see Trump dump the pro-life position.
Lol. Sure sure. Posted by: Wonkish Rogue at January 29, 2024 06:21 PM (OZjDX) 316
DC not the place for an anti-abortion ban? Well, maybe, if we bothered to follow the Constitution, but we don't, so that's that.
Also, ask yourself this question: if Germany deserved to burn for its treatment of Jews with 6 M dead, then what do we deserve for killing 60 M babies? A Jew can fight, run, hide, and has like all men committed sin. A baby has none of this. If not for the pro lifers, God might have decided to cook the Yellowstone Caldera off, and exterminate most of America. And I think He'd be justified to do so. We have been wicked to a degree that would make the Hitler of people's nightmares jealous of us for how evil we've been. Posted by: Eric2 at January 29, 2024 06:31 PM (HMtpY) 317

We all remember Jimmy Carter stinking up the place in 1980 and yet he got 41% of the vote with Reagan eking out a 50.8% win.
Posted by: G'rump928(c) -------- Maximum influence mark for the traditional media that claimed Reagan would lead us into a nuclear war. John Anderson, running as indy got the rest of the vote. Reagan won reelection going away as the fear mongering did not work in 84. Posted by: whig at January 29, 2024 06:02 PM (ZcPYF) Peak nuclear war threats over Reagan was in the next election, 1984. The first election was mostly economy and the crippling foreign policy errors. He won by even more in 84. Posted by: Oldcat at January 29, 2024 07:11 PM (eoQWY) 320
"BREAKING REPORT: Joe Biden to AUTHORIZE MILITARY ACTION in the Middle East as early as tonight.. -Sky News"
Nice that he gives them a heads up. Posted by: illiniwek at January 29, 2024 05:52 PM (Cus5s) What does he call the bombing he was doing in Yemen all these weeks? I mean it was predictably ineffective in solving the problems like air campaigns always are, but it was military action. Posted by: Oldcat at January 29, 2024 07:14 PM (eoQWY) 321

I'm not morally or practically opposed to an attempt to amend the constitution to ban abortion. You're certainly welcome to try if you think you can get a sufficiently large number of states on board. But good luck with that. Posted by: Gryph at January 29, 2024 07:31 PM (aCVzN) 322
Posted by: whig at January 29, 2024 06:00 PM There was a senior border patrol agent on AM talk radio this morning here in Texas that said they have no intention of going in an cutting wire in Eagle Pass and currently there are no plans to go anywhere near that park. He said they have not received any orders to cut anything and will only go in and cut the wire if they are issued "lawful" orders to do so. Did you see the Biden attack add during the NFC Championship Game Sunday?
Texas mom, waxing about how much she loves being a mom and her messy family ... Oh, and then I had a dangerous pregnancy, and I couldn't abort the kid, because of Donald Trump. I think she even used the phrase "every woman's nightmare." One of the things that always pisses me off about "Pro-Choicers" is they make their arguments on these minuscule, anomalous circumstances -- do you think a lot of women are having rape and incest babies? Show me the census numbers on that -- instead of how it's actually used. Birth control. Sexual convenience. Too self-centered to think about living for another, vulnerable human. Anyway, I digress. So yet again Biden will run not on his record, but on scaring people not to vote for the other Boogeyman. Posted by: FishingWithFredo at January 29, 2024 09:26 PM (jaTAe) 325

We all know Brandon and his posse from the politburo is as popular as an STD. Trump is going to crush these clowns, not because he is so popular but because the Biden-Obama clown posse is so degenerate and disgusting.

If that 18% doesn't vote, the D's running the election will take their ballots, fill them out for Biden, and then scan them a couple dozen times each.

Why amend the constitution? Just pass a law, or even better an executive order and some regulations. We are in a post constitutional state of affairs. I thought I was fairly clear about that so I wonder why you bounce back to legality. Posted by: Eric2 at January 30, 2024 01:17 PM (q7Vou) 329
Story from Fox: The FBI violated the constitution by searching apartment individual mailboxes for drugs without warrants for each mailbox. This is absolute BS, tell those SOBs to find a judge will write induvial warrants for hundreds of mailboxes,
