The Classical Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

1 27 24 c0ffee.jpg

***

Good morning Horde. I'm a bit confused, where did January go? Another month of Coffee Threads coming to an end.

Before we get to the Prayer Revival, just a few house keeping matters (rulz for those of you in North Hudson).

1) Open thread so feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate away.
2) Be kind and don't pick up the troll droppings.
3) If you are feeling brave, feel free to run with sharp objects.
D) Have a great weekend.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

12/16 – Jim (in kalifornia) could still use prayers. His wife is in the hospital for a routine procedure to put in liver stents. It didn’t go well. She is on antibiotics. She is in a catch-22: she can’t get chemo until her liver is healthy enough, but the tumors are also damaging her liver. Jim had an abdominal bug and had to go to the ER, but he’s better.
12/27 Update – The doctor confirmed that his wife is going through liver failure. Her “liver” is huge and 90% composed of metastases. He has no estimate for how long she has.
1/13 Update – Jim’s wife has started on hospice care. She mostly sleeps (12-15 hours/day) but is mostly not in pain, thank the Lord. She is mostly able to walk around on her own for now (with Jim there to make sure she doesn’t fall down and get hurt). She is sad that she won’t be able to see their youngest child reach 18.
1/20 Update – Jim’s wife’s mental acuity and ability to move has diminished. She now needs to be watched 24/7 as she won’t tell anyone she wants to get up. The other day, with Jim sleeping in the same room, she got up and fell, but thankfully did not get hurt. Jim can really use your prayers.
1/21 Update – Jim’s wife is not doing well today. They were not able to reach a nurse to give her strong meds. He finally held her and got her back to sleep. They’re not sure she has much longer.
1/25 Update – Jim’s wife has died. He said she went pretty peacefully; her breathing went for deep slow to shallow fast, to so shallow she was getting no air Jim was with her to the end, telling her how much he loved her and recounting the wonderful times we had in our almost 26 years of marriage.

12/21 – Skip would appreciate prayers for recovery for his mom. She had a mini stroke before Christmas. She got to the hospital and seems fine and no outward side effects. She should be in rehabilitation soon.

12/21 – Nurse Ratched asked for prayers for a rare commenter that she knows, whose mother is dying. She is in her 90s and had a good run. Please pray for peace and calm at her passing. She is at home and on hospice.

12/21 – NaCly Dog asked for prayers for the mother-in-law of his old boss, who went to hospice.

12/21 – PD asked for prayers for Nick, who was recently diagnosed with an inoperable tumor. He will undergo aggressive chemotherapy. Prayers are needed for strength for him and his son.

12/21 – Oddbob asked for prayers that his house in TX sells soon. They had to move to NE on short notice a few months ago, to help care for their granddaughter. They don’t have the resources to pay for rent and also the mortgage for very long.

12/21 – FenelonSpoke asked for prayers again for Baby Lillian. She is back in the hospital with a hemoglobin issue. Baby Lillian is the great-niece of a member of her congregation.

12/26 – Anonosaurus Wrecks and Mrs. Wrecks could use some prayers. They had a terrible Christmas. Mrs. Wrecks took out the trash on Christmas Eve, and fell and broke her leg and her wrist. Then their daughter accidentally overdosed their dog with insulin. They had to take the dog to a super expensive emergency vet, but the dog is okay now. Mrs. Wrecks is still in the hospital because no pharmacies were open, so she couldn’t get any pain meds. She also needs special medical equipment.

12/27 – TecumsehTea requested prayers for a dear friend, Pastor Joe, who has a benign brain tumor. In the past 2 years he has dealt with a heart attack and prostate cancer, and now this. He has deep faith and trusts the Lord. His family is understandably anxious. Prayers for wisdom for the doctors, peace and comfort for his family, for continued mercy and healing for Pastor Joe.
1/24 Update – Pastor Joe is scheduled for surgery on 2/1. They expect it to take 4.5 hours.

12/29 – Captain Hate’s daughter sent word that Captain Hate had died. He had a steep decline over the past week. She sent the family’s thanks for the support.

12/30 – FenelonSpoke updated the Horde on their church organist, Jessie (age 95). She now has bronchitis. Prayers are much appreciated.
1/6 Update – Jessie has recovered from bronchitis and appreciates the prayers.

12/31 – Weak Geek and his family could use prayers. His father died on 12/26. He was 87. His passing was peaceful; he had been put on morphine for comfort care.

1/3 – Browndog asked for prayers. His PSA will be tested today, to see what’s up (or down). It’s been four years since he began this fight (#howwedoing).

1/6 – Our Country is Screwed asked for prayers for his daughter. At 26 years old, she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. They are still running tests and scans to determine what treatment options are available.

1/6 – Mindful Webworker asked for prayers for his oldest friend, who has some throat problem; looking at being fed via a tube. He’s a great guy and has been through a lot.

1/10 – GnuBreed posted that he has been mostly absent from the comments as he strove to get a liver transplant. He was not able to, due to a worn out body, and he will be entering hospice soon. His end is near. He says the transplant team made a fair judgement.
1/20 Update – GnuBreed said he is doing “the home hospice thingy” and said that it sure helps him out. Some days are mostly good, so he will keep up the fight for a while. He sends his thanks for the kind words and thoughts.

1/12 – Washington Nearside’s last day of employment has come and gone. He plans to withdraw his TSP and retirement contributions to buy time and then evaluate whether or not to list his house. His ex-wife, learning of his change in employment, is filing to contest his sole custody of their two children, and his lawyer has explained that without a job, he is likely to lose custody. Please pray that he can find employment sufficient to keep his house and his kids before losing both.

1/13 – Tipperdi asked for prayers. Her cousin lost his 23-year-old daughter in a car accident in mid-December. He’s having a hard time coping and Tipperdi is worried about his mental health.

1/13 – Screaming in digital requested prayers for R, a beloved family member who has pancreatic cancer. He is feeling pretty normal at this point. It was discovered while checking for something else. It doesn’t look like there are any reasonable treatment options for him, though.
1/20 Update – There was some good news for R – the latest test confirms cancer has not spread and is slow-moving. Now they are looking at treatment options.

1/26 – Pooky’s girl shared the good news that they are expecting a baby, approximately 9/21/2024! Please pray that it all goes smoothly for them and the new baby.

1/18 – CBD noted that long-time commenter, moon_over_vermont, passed away at the end of December.

1/20 – Cybersmythe asked for prayers for his sweetie’s son, who is in rehab.

1/20 – Screaming in digital is worried about Mom. She sleeps very late every day then dozes on the couch most of the afternoon. She can’t get interested in doing much, although she is still cheerful and not grumpy. She may be adjusting after the holidays and moving. They’ll contact her doctors on Monday.

1/20 – Jewells said she has spent the last 2 days recovering from the latest chemo treatment. Praise God, it has gone much better. She still had pain, but was able to manage it with oxy, but it makes her very weak.

1/20 – MKC asked for prayers for Mrs. MKC. She is having an elective procedure on Thursday and is, by her nature, prone to worrying about the usual risks.

1/20 – Blanco Basura asked for prayers. Her friend’s child OD’d on prescription meds. She leaves behind a husband and a 5-year-old daughter. She was 26. Prayers for peace and comfort for the family, and the little girl’s future would be good.

1/20 – Tonypete requested continued prayers for his wife’s church buddy Mike, who has advanced bone cancer and is in great pain constantly. He’s a hell of a guy and suffers without complaint.

1/20 – Fenelon Spoke asked for prayers for “P” who needs a pacemaker. She is waiting to hear when that will happen.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9
We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair, persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.

Thank you Annie for your work.

19 Morning again, caffeiners! 'Tis 63 here and still raining, not heavily but enough to create a hassle. I'll plan to hit the grocery a little later, as it's projected to taper off about ten a.m.

Maybe the rain will keep quite so many people away from the bank. I have to straighten out the issue of a check on my statement that I could not possibly have written. Not only do I not have it in my register and don't remember it, they say it's check # 3707. But 3707, unwritten, is still in my pad of checks. Got to be an error on their part.

24 I have to figure Hollywood's woke problem is getting much worse now... Public resentment about this crap has been slowly building for a long time. Deep down, everyone knows it's weird, stupid and creepy to make a biopic where William the Conqueror is now a Palestinian he-she in a wheelchair.

But, as usual, most people have been too intimidated to openly ridicule the Party's braindead agitprop apparatchiks. Now that South Park viciously lampooned it, it gives the timid permission to say "the Emperor's naked! And lame and gay!"

I expect a lot of H'wood execs are chugging Pepto between both parties, after that came out.

In the 80s, they got GHWB as Reagan's VP and made it seem natural.
Now they are getting caught ham-handedly trying to bribe Lake.
And blatantly trying to scuttle Trump with the "presumptive nominee" offer that would prevent him from campaigning-- just how stupid are they that they thought he'd take it?

This will not have the effect that regime apparatchiks think it will. They *never* interact with the undesirables they've imported by the millions, so they don't realize that a lot of those who have will shrug and say "this is fine. I'm ok with this."

Some Twitter/X person for some strange reason ended up on my feed and says today, January 27th is the day for something big. Coupled with the former intelligence people talking of an 'October 7th' level event in this country it may/may not be something to consider.

Stolen elections have consequences as far as the eye can see.

Anyone who has watched Biden make disastrous mistake after disastrous mistake for 50 years in DC can't be surprised he managed to drive himself into a box canyon with his idiotic open borders stuff.

Hiring more BP agents and throwing more money at the border/immigration catastrophe will not make one bit of difference as long as Joe Biden is our President.

150 I humbly ask this morning for some prayers for myself. I've had worsening lower back pain for several months. Thought I was just lifting with bad form or something, but I finally went to a chiropractor to get checked. X-ray shows my spine is all curvy--not scoliosis bad, but definitely not straight. That explains a lot.

Would appreciate prayers that we can get it straightened out and pain-free in short order.

It's part of their kink that they keep giving us glimpses of.

Don't eat things made from meat. Meat is only for us. Don't drive cars or planes that allow freedom to travel. Travel is only for us. Don't drink coffee made from coffee.

I wonder what the "coffee" will be made from or at least include. The obvious answer, knowing that it's all a kink of the 1%, is right there in front of you, isn't it?

For the spine, easy body core exercises (not that heavy gainzzz stuff) will help with the pain and straightening. One that has benefited me, like kegels, can be done almost any time; driving is a good time because you have a 10 & 2 brace for your hands, then tighten the belly, pull your navel to your spine and hold for a count of 15. You'll be amazed.

I do too, but I can say from my experience that the words don't really matter. Even if the words feel awkward, just being there (even from gray boxes, phone, or email) is a big help.

Some things I will never forget. When I got home to Laramie the day after J died, I fell completely apart. J's buddy B happened to call at that exact moment. While I was on the phone with him, my friend D texted. B stayed on the phone with me, just saying whatever, until D got there. She just said, "it's okay, it's okay"... then, "well, it's not okay but you know what I mean," and I did.

All of that was more to me than the most eloquent words.

I don't have words for how much the Horde helped, as well. But you did.

I'm babbling now, and talking way too much about myself. But the point is, it helps.

Forget the planks. People who do not have back problems shouldn't give advice. I bought a core exerciser, 'body by Jake', guaranteed not to hurt your back - it was a killer.

Two more tips: 1) don't drive with the seat back, bring it up till your legs are bent - this un-stresses the back muscles.
2) shoulder blades, imagine a pencil, vertical, on your spine then pull those scapula together tight and hold that pencil. Again 3 sets of 15.
