Attorneys for Littlejohn, 38, argue he actually deserves an even lower sentence, closer to the presentencing report's range of four to 10 months, in part because he leaked the reams of stolen private income-tax data to "reputable news organizations -- the New York Times and ProPublica -- that he knew would handle the information responsibly." There has been an ongoing helium shortage for almost two years. A lot of it was caused by the Feds. They shut down distribution at one major facility for almost a year because of a bunch of OSHA violations. The Feds have been mismanaging the He reserve for a long time. It's being turned over to the private sector in stages and has been going on for a while also.

Posted by: davidt at January 26, 2024 05:56 PM (SYTee) Abbott is a Good Old Boy... that's not quite the same as Party Man. A couple years ago I would have said he was a bit of a Bush acolyte. I suspect he may be a bit smarter than most and saw the changes coming before others did. Old School Texas Republicans were basically non-crazy Democrats. That's changing. Slowly, as these things are want to do, but changing none the less. Abbott is trying to stay ahead of the mob. Folks will point to the Paxton acquittal as a turning point but I think it was covid. Abbott didn't shut Texas down... he doesn't have that authority. He may have wanted to but he didn't do it. Then he saw a lot of anger about the shutdowns that happened. That got him thinking. He's been on a pretty good trajectory since. Posted by: I used to have a different nic at January 26, 2024 06:08 PM (GYIa4) 215

This was a case where Democrats could have their cake and eat it too. Instead, they prefer to just have their cake. They could have leaked Trump's tax returns, as that was always the goal and stood up for the rule of law. However, action against the Trump leaker would jeopardize the people who hired him and discourage further leaking against Republicans. So Democrats chose the option that discouraged the rule of law and encourages corruption by Democrats.
