If the fear is that Kamala ends up in the Big Chair and that this would be some kind of national nightmare, then Joe running for re-election with her still on the ticket makes zero chance. None. Less than none. A second Biden Administration with Harris still in at VP *increases* the odds that she ends up behind the Resolute Desk rather than decreasing it. She can't get there on her own - she showed that during her spectacular failure in the 2020 primaries. She didn't lose by a little, she got shit-stomped and was down in the "dregs of the dregs" section.
The only way she ends up in the Oval is by being on the ticket when Biden is re-elected. If the concern is "Kamala's a short-tempered idiot and asshole," then Biden running again with her still as VP is not the obvious - or even a non-obvious - way to deal with that.

The problem with relying on the SCOTUS is that, I hate to say it, that under the broad Arizona decision a few years back the Fed Gov is going to win this fight in Court. This vote today shows that there's a 5 vote bloc willing to support Federal Authority over any State Authority, and I don't see that changing.
So Abbot's play is to push things on the border until Biden's DOJ militarizes things and sends the troops down from Ft. Hood to take over, and hope that makes a big enough political stink to get a change of administration.

I think it is more accurately described as Obama pushing Kamala as a result of a deal made with the Clinton camp. Hillary capitulated when she and Obama were primarying. And the tally in some states were suspect. The Clinton camp agreed to support Biden in 2020 IF they got someone from their camp in the VP slot. Harris is very much part of the Clinton camp (as is Gavin Newsom). So, Obama pushing Biden to accept Harris was inside baseball within the party.

It's actually worse than that: the lower appeals court had granted Texas' request to enjoin the border agents from cutting the wire. The SC reversed that decision. So no, it wasn't a decision on the merits. But it was a huge "tell" and clearly at least 5 idiots on the court don't give a shit about the border.

Kamala was a known asset in 2019. She was a sitting US Senator. She had been California's AG. She talked to the highest people in power regularly. The New York Times ran a puff piece at the behest of their paymasters trying to set her up to be the presumptive frontrunner for the 2020 Democrat primary.
And she hasn't changed. All of the powerful, influential people say Kamala. They talked to her. They listened to her. They saw this woman and said, "She will be our guiding light."

You work for who pays ya. The US Supreme Court justices are chosen by the Federal Government, and then Paid by the Federal Government.
OF COURSE THEY SIDE WITH THE FEDS, OVER STATES. Has there been any major case, in modern history, where the Supremes sided with a State? I can't think of any off the top of my pointy head.

Well if nobody gets a majority in the first ballot then each person can vote for a compromise candidate. But with nobody running I don't see that happening even for Democrats.

I think Texas needs to be as harsh as possible to the federal agents. I mean citizens, police, every state employee of every kind reject any accommodation. Pull up in a drive thru with federal markings? no service, gassing up? pull the switch on their pump, at every turn shut them down. And take pictures of them when possible. 1) Big Mike won't run because everyone will be clamoring for "her" medical records to ensure she doesn't have prostate cancer.
2) "Trump failed us with Barrett." I disagree. The Justices overturned Roe v Wade and "bigly" affirmed gun rights. That was all Trump's doing. On everything else, we won't get 100% wins. I just hope they have one or two more big decisions (overturn Chevron and uphold religious exercise).
