We would huff and puff and clean belly buttons. Fast forward 18 years, the oldest sassed his uncle, the 82nd Airborne trained giant from West Virginia. The rest of us moved valuables out of the way, as the fight was on.n. For 20 minutes. The uncle blew raspberries into the defeated's belly button for the win. He was not a gracious loser, but the fight was over. The penguin's perfume is so strong, that it infects every part of the animal's body. The skin and hair are so entirely impregnated with it, that they retain their original smell long after they have been taken from the body; and if a person be shut up in the same apartment with one of these, the odour is almost insupportable.

The key with deer is to not swerve. And let up on the brake just before impact. Our newspaper delivery woman, a sweet lady, swerved to avoid two deer, and went not a culvert. The injuries eventually killed her. Letting up on the brake keeps the bumper higher, so the deer does not go through the windshield and hurt you. There's a 15 mile stretch of road running almost due west from where I live that I try hard to avoid at night. There's practically nobody who lives in the area, and it runs through lowland forest. I've seen up to a half dozen or so deer grazing by the side of this two lane road, sometimes several groups separated by a mile or so, and I've always been afraid one of those things was going to panic and run in front of the car. So far, so good, but it does make me nervous. Posted by: Paco at January 18, 2024 07:54 PM (njExo) 66

The most white knuckle drive I ever had wasn't snow or ice but driving across Georgia in October at night and their were so many deer. Smashed cars all over the place. The glint in their eyes from a distance looked like mile markers off the side of the road until you saw it move. Whole herds jumping across right in front of you.
And then I get to the most run down, giant palmetto bug infested p.o.s. place I reserved a stay at and they didn't open till 9am in the morning so I slept in my car. The ELK, or MOOSE DEER, is the largest species of deer that is known, and is distinguished from all others by having broad and flattened horns with several points, no brow-antlers, and a hairy protuberance on the throat
Strong and powerful as these animals are, it has been found possible to domesticate and train them to labour. Mr. Livingston, at a farm near New York, made the experiment by breaking two elks to the harness. After having been only twice bitted, though two years old, they appeared equally docile with colts of the same age, applying their whole strength to the draught, and proceeding in a steady pace. Question for those in moose country. I like watching the game warden shows on outdoor tv. They often show incidents where a moose or other large game gets clipped by car, and they haul the carcass off for butchering and charity (a good thing). Now, can the person that hit the animal claim it for personal consumption?

Wild game coming into town is getting more and more common. The years I lived in Erie PA verified that. Sitting outside, a couple turkeys came walking through the parking lot, a few blocks from downtown. The newspaper had a deer crash through its front window and roam through the offices. People that stopped to help, including the State cop, asked me if I wanted the beast. I let them have it. I, along with my ilk, provided a blueprint for wealth and prosperity. I accumulated wealth. I worked hard. My generation provided a path for that to continue.

Yeah, I hit one. Posted by: Additional Blond Agent, STEM Guy at January 18, 2024 08:00 PM (/HDaX) I would invariably see shitloads of deer heading north up the main drag towards Remus, MI as I made my way to the Injun casino in Mt. Pleasant back in the day. Never hit one there. But, did clip one just outside of Holland, MI. Bastard ran in front of me from left to right, and *somehow* his hoof cracked my windshield at the *upper* right corner. I have no clue how his hoof could get that high. the bleak future for many Boomers, one headline predicted, would be “Work, Work, Work and Die.”
And then the coverage changed dramatically. Now, not a week goes by without some story declaring that retiring Boomers constitute one of the richest generations in history. They’re now dubbed “The Luckiest Generation,” sitting on a staggering $78 trillion in assets that even a dour media can’t ignore. Posted by: SMOD at January 18, 2024 09:58 PM (RovqD) 291

My kids will do better than me. And I did better than my folks - by a mile. They don't spend time worried about what we built. They'll build their own. One kid, the youngest says of the millennials, of which he is one, I'll be successful because a bunch of my generation is worthless.
