Oh Boy: Key Index Predicting Economic Output "Plummets" to Lowest Level Since Pandemic

Bidenomics, baby!

What hobbies and interests you didn't previously have the time for will you pursue when you're unemployed? Because that is how our treasonous, foreign-actor media will play this.

Get ready for a Funcession!

From Hot Air:

Trouble for the U.S. economy? Empire State gauge sinks to lowest level since pandemic.

New York Fed's business-conditions index tumbles to negative 43.7, lowest since May 2020

The numbers: A survey of business conditions in the New York region sank in January to the lowest level since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, perhaps a sign of trouble brewing for the U.S. economy.

The New York Federal Reserve's Empire State business-conditions index, a gauge of manufacturing activity, plunged 29.2 points to negative 43.7, the regional Fed bank said Tuesday.

It's the second-lowest reading ever. The biggest drop took place in the depths of the pandemic, in May 2020.

Economists had expected a negative-4 reading, according to a survey by the Wall Street Journal. Any number below zero indicates deteriorating conditions.

Over the past two months, the index has plummeted 58.2 points, largely because of a decline in new orders. Orders provide an indication of future business activity.

JP Morgan's Jamie Dimon -- a longtime Democrat and close ally of the Clinton Corporate Wing of the Democrat Party -- warned investors a week ago that America was going to be enjoying 70s style stagflation, and won't be enjoying it that much.

JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon tells Americans it's back to the 1970s! Wall Street Doomsayer warns high inflation reminds him of dire economy five decades ago

Jamie Dimon warned interest rate cuts were not guaranteed this year

He dismissed predictions of a 'goldilocks economy' in 2024 which is neither too hot nor too cold

Several firms are still predicting a recession, despite being wrong in 2023

By Helena Kelly

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon has warned Americans to prepare for a return to the 1970s - an era marked by rampant inflation, high unemployment and a series of energy crises in the US.

Dimon said rising prices, stagnant growth and huge government spending were among the factors linking the 2020s to the 1970s as he echoed comments made by other economists.

...

When asked by Fox Business Network's Maria Bartiromo whether households could expect interest rates to decrease three times this year, he said: 'I'm a skeptic. I think because of fiscal spending and other factors.

'I look at a lot of things - forget about economic models - $2 trillion of fiscal deficit, the infrastructure and IRA act, the green economy, the remilitarization of the world, the restructuring of trade, are all inflationary.

'That looks a little more like the 1970s to me.'

His comments are in-line with predictions made by Deutsche Bank. Back in October, the German firm said rising geopolitical tensions and soaring energy prices had created a 'striking number of parallels' between the 1970s and 2020s.

Related: Jamie Dimon just told Democrats to cool it on constantly attacking MAGA. His point is that MAGA make some correct and necessary critiques, and when Democrats attack and smear anyone they brand as "MAGA," they're announcing to voters that "we don't care about these obvious problems that are destroying this country and will keep pretending they're not problems until we hit rock bottom, like Hunter Biden coming off a three year crack power-nap."

But the Democrat Party's only agenda is pretending that obviously-critical problems are not problems at all, Racist. Literally -- they have nothing else. If they admit any of the problems that they themselves are causing, the entire house of cards collapses.

44 Why are Americans so gloomy about their great economy? Some of it is Farce News and Hate Radio, yes - but the cost of housing is taking its toll. Young couples are simply priced out of today's housing market - save for crummy apartments. 8% mortgages aren't helping.

Another legacy of the Bush years, alas. it was in the Bush years that banksters, vulture funds and other casino capitalists really got interested in the large-scale use of housing as leverage for their money laundering, derivatives, or whatever other games they play with other people's money.

Only 2 months ago CW said we were soon to be in recession. Allow a little time for the good news to be distributed then I am sure these polls will change accordingly.

I am tired of this negative shit on the economy. There has never been a more competent US administration on the economy.

As Americans we have long been spoiled at the grocery store. All of the sudden you can’t get 8 pounds of cheese for $3 or a 60 pack of coke for a 5 spot anymore and it’s the end of the world.

83 The economy sucks, but it's not nearly as bad as it was in 2012 and Obama was comfortably reelected. 2012 unemployment was around 8%, now it's 3.7%.

I know people here think there's going to be some stampede to the ballot box to throw Biden out over the economy, but it's just not there. Probably a mild recession at worst this year.

You're thinking of how people decided elections 30+ years ago.

Pretend the economy was good, would you as an individual vote for Biden? Of course not.

Things have to get really bad for people to switch their allegiance, and my guess is, that storm is not likely to come in the next 10 months.

The other issue is, once you get past inflation (which no President can turn back) a 3.7% unemployment rate is historically low, the stock market went up around 20% last year, and gas prices have gone down considerably. It's just not some fever pitch of economic angst (yet)

We are in a recession now. Companies are not hiring, they are laying people off. Industrial production is down. Despite the goosed up retail number for the Christmas season, I expect retail to absolutely crater in January of 2024, when the numbers are out.
When my wife and I go out to stores and places to eat, for the most part, they are pretty empty. People are not shopping or eating out now, to the same degree they were just a few months ago.
You can make fun of Jamie Dimon as you will, but he succeeded John B. McCoy as CEO of Bank One (prior to merging with Chase bank), and seemed like a decent guy. But JP Morgan-Chase bank is YUGE! As in, too big to fail. They are virtually an instrument of the Treasury Dept. and the Federal Reserve system. And they are hugely leveraged in "paper" that are debt notes on their actual reserves.

A co-worker tells me that .223 will work in the AR-15 chambered for 5.56, as that is what he does. He just suggested chambering one round and making sure it has enough gas recoil to lock the bolt back. That's the problem, as .223 does not have quite as much power as the 5.56 NATO round.

This credit largely goes to illegal aliens who are not even citizens. Under the BBB Act they expanded it to illegal aliens children. So now both illegal aliens and their children will now receive more free money, courtesy of your tax dollars. This will be voted on in committee this week and then goes to the full House and Senate for a vote. I was tired assured the Chairman of House ways and means was totes a Trump conservative. Weird how he agreed to this without excluding illegal aliens. But he's on your side, doncha know.

319 "Fat Boy" Pritzker stated, “[T]here was some bedwetting, for sure, in the fall, when people started to see some polls that they didn’t like or just overall concern. I think the reality is, things are much better now. There’s real confidence that’s developing among supporters. And it’s partly because new polling data in the swing states, partly because the significant haul of resources that’s been brought into the Biden-Harris campaign, so a lot of faith shown there, and partly because the economic numbers are getting better. People are earning more money. Inflation has gone down. The price of gas has gone down. Mortgage rates are coming down. And that’s all inuring to the benefit of Democrats and Joe Biden."

>Wow! You have a great memory for a 31 year old. I remember seeing 'video' of the standing waves rolling in the concrete and asphalt pavement of the road that must have had an amplitude of at least 6 feet. Luckily the guy in the video was stopped at a intersection red light and so his vehicle only jumped up and down like a dumpster in the alley.

329 The Army has delisted its advertising campaign titled "The Calling" on YouTube, making it harder to find the videos on the platform. The 2021 effort to court potential applicants from LGBTQ+ and other diverse backgrounds sparked a backlash from conservative lawmakers and pundits.

"The Calling" was delisted from the service's YouTube channel last week, hiding it from search results and recommendations, according to Laura DeFrancisco, a spokesperson for the Army's marketing arm, who said usage rights for music were set to expire. One of the ads, called "Emma," featured a soldier who operated Patriot missile systems and was raised by a lesbian couple.

Us, too...but we (so far) make it work - it does require a lot of cooking and "living without favorites" and stocking up week to week. Like this week, you might get 5 boxes of cereal. If they are gone in the week, you might not get any next week, so plan on a different breakfast. Only 2 things I always buy regardless of price - milk and bananas - everything else is negotiable...

350 The recent swattings began in earnest on Christmas, when an anonymous caller claimed that special counsel Jack Smith had shot his wife at their home in Maryland, which U.S. Marshals protecting his home soon dismissed as bogus. The same day, a man claimed that he had shot his girlfriend at Marjorie Taylor Greene’s home in Georgia, though police were able to determine the call was fake before arrival. (“This is like the 8th time,” Greene tweeted.) There was a third Christmas swatting in central New York, where police actually did show up to the home of Representative Brandon Williams, responding to a call about a shooting. The next day, former speaker of the Arizona House of Representatives Rusty Bowers returned home to find sheriff’s deputies responding to a call claiming that a woman had been murdered inside and that there was a pipe bomb.

Posted by: SMOD at January 17, 2024 04:34 PM (RHGPo)

351 The trend continued on January 3, when Georgia elections official Gabriel Sterling tweeted that “911 got a call saying a drug deal gone bad,” resulting in a police visit to his home. (He is not the only Georgia state official to have been swatted in recent days.) On January 7, someone called 911 claiming there was a shooting at the Washington, D.C., home of Tanya Chutkan, the federal judge overseeing the Trump January 6 case. (Last summer, Chutkan received a voice-mail from a woman threatening to kill her “if Trump doesn’t get elected in 2024.) The next day, Lincoln Project co-founder Rick Wilson claimed he was swatted at his home in Florida. Arrests in these cases have been scarce, though Greene has said she will introduce a bill making it easier to arrest people making bogus SWAT calls.

355 Best round for Whitetail Deer, is likely a suppressed .22 LR.

One, aimed between the ear-hole and eyeball. No meat loss, and in the Burning Times, the sound of the SHOT!/WHUMP! of a centerfire kill, might just bring the wrong kind of vultures.

Otherwise, the .308 Win. is likely the Universal Big Game Round in North America, having replaced the slightly hotter .30-'06 as "most popular".

It's enough for elk or moose, IF the shot is well aimed and true. I'd want something stronger for Grizzly though, but if the .308 was the only thing, again, that well aimed shot is going to matter. A LOT.

My favorite round is the 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser, with the 140gr. Game King, aboard. The newer 6.5 Creedmoor does the exact same ballistic thing, except in a short-action rifle.

.35 Remington is bliss in the brush, but lacks a bit of versatilty, overall. My $0.02, FWIW

I think what the economy does or doesn't do within the next six months is moot. We'll be at war with a major power or multiple major powers before election day 2024. No aggressor state will be able to resist the temptation to exploit a glaring weakness and act while the US presidency is essentially a demented puppet controlled by a committee of ideologues and oligarchs. Imagine the reaction lag in chain-of-command in the case of a senile C-in-C.

363 I’m so old I remember a year ago when inflation was blamed on too much government spending. And how a recession was totally expected. But it never happened. What did happen was ramped up government spending for illegal alien welfare. All those people with food, housing, medical needs, etc. goosed the economy and recession averted. But now all that spending is resulting in more inflation. I expect a recession next year because the FED will decide that helping Biden is their number one job.
