32 Calling shenanigans on that digital clock. They say right up front that it's powered by an Arduino, which is a small computer in its own right. It's a very cool clock, though, and I would like to own one.

But I am pretty sure that 100% mechanical digital clocks exist, powered by clockwork with springs or falling weights, like those desktop perpetual calendars with a capsule that you flip to increment the date by one day.

Not to mention that it's in England, where people drive on the wrong side of the road. I fail to see what it accomplishes that one large roundabout with multiple lanes could not.

I drove on roundabouts in Managua, Nicaragua, and lived to tell about it. In fact, it's kind of fun. And some of them have 5 or 6 roads to them.

A friend of mine that is much, much smarter than me (yeah, not too hard, but still) was working on a clock that would stop when you looked at it. I think he got one working but you had to be fairly close for the sensor to pick up your eyes.

He eventually made one that would not move and then it would, so you'd look at it and the hands would be stuck in the same place for 3-10 minutes, then they would jump to where they needed to be.

Onions, and later updated by others. So, if you're consulting this book, Ace, you can truthfully be said to "know your onions".

The problem with roundabouts with too many lanes is that cars can't get to the inner lanes to clear space in the outer fast enough to change lanes back to get to an exit. One for merging in and out and perhaps 1 maybe 2 more maxes out the time unless you want to cycle endlessly.

There's a computer game Cities Skylines that models this fairly detailed and has a large modding community. Think of it like an incredible model train set that also has cars, monorails, subways, airports and ships all modeled. Takes a fairly hefty CPU, but you can lose yourself in it.

138 Still very cold here: 14F. Haven't been above freezing since last Thursday. Snow, about 4" Thursday, was "hit & melt", so created a thick layer of ice before The Deep Freeze hit us.

I think todays high was 20F or so. It was sunny, so salted areas softened just a bit. Roads have been treacherous, but had an appt yesterday-- oh. my. gosh. Side roads were covered in compact snow & ice, mostly solid ice. Ugh! But I made it there and back without accident. (couple of close calls, though). Wondered why the medical center was open *at all* on MLK day?

Had to get smokes & gasoline today, not too far away, solid ice road with a little gravel. Went about 2pm so very little traffic. Still, had to "unclench" after arriving safely home!

I've always been down on running QBs perhaps unfairly because like the point guard that doesn't pass, runner QBs often get the rest of the offense aside from one favorite or so giving up on the play since they will never get the ball. And of course, speed leaves early and injury to your expensive QB is so damaging putting them in a place where the bad guys get regular cracks at them seems suboptimal.

Speaking of, I recently learned there is a driving simulator on Steam that is very dedicated to details and physics and is wildly popular. It even offers VR I think, and there's a drifting game that is either associated with it or sort of its equal but with a different audience. People even spend a lot of time meticulously recreating particular vehicles for the game.

178 I made five shelters for the stray cats . I went there today and not one cat was in them . The straw beds looked like they may have been occupied at one time so maybe they use them at night. Still has to be miserable for them.

We have two, huts made out of plywood and lined with insulation. They rarely get used. Even now, as the last couple nights have been in the single digits.

One cat showed up Sunday soaked to the bone with the air temps around 5. Stupid shit was content to lounge on the porch... wet.

185 I have a large Amazon box on the back porch. There a runner that goes to it and a smaller bix inside with a blanket. Wool blanket outside to cut down on drafts. That gets used because they can see out of it easily. Right now, it's full of bird feathers. Not sure if they are hunting at the bird bath or for birds that fly in for shelter. I do put out dry food for the cats.

Absolutely. But to widely varying degrees. Among the various driving/racing games:
beamNG is probably the most detailed, and then Assetto Corsa, closely tailed by its offspring, Assetto Corsa Competzione.
Further down the scale are "simcade" [simulation/arcade] games like the Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon series. Realistic-ish.
More arcade-ish physics with The Crew series, and then purely arcade physics in Need For Speed games.
