Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | NBC "News:" Some Fear That Trump Would Weaponize the Government Against His Enemies, So They're Planning to Weaponize the Government Against Possible Trump OfficialsOh really? Now that's a bad thing, huh? Donald Trump is sparking fears among those who understand the inner workings of the Pentagon that he would convert the nonpartisan U.S. military into the muscular arm of his political agenda as he makes comments about dictatorship and devalues the checks and balances that underpin the nation's two-century-old democracy. A circle of appointees independent of Trump's political operation steered him away from ideas that would have pushed the limits of presidential power in his last term, according to books they've written and testimony given to Congress. Most were gone by the end. In a new term, many former officials worry that Trump would instead surround himself with loyalists unwilling to say no.Let me know what you think will happen if Congress refuses to fund Biden's war for his funders and paymasters in Urkaine. I think he'll just assert the unilateral authority to give US money to a foreign country. What do you think, NBC "News"? This is farcical, as the great Matt Taibbi reported. This claim that "Trump says he can assassinate US citizens and not be prosecuted for it" is entirely a fiction of the leftwing propaganda media. Reporters keep plunging to bizarre new lows in coverage of Donald Trump. The new jam: his lawyer argued presidents can assassinate rivals. Except he didn't, at all. Trump's "election interference" criminal case is on hold, pending an appeal heard by a trio of judges this week. Citing a traditional interpretation of Article II of the Constitution, the former president is asserting he must be impeached and convicted in the Senate before he can be criminally tried for any official act. MSNBC, in an article by former New York County prosecutor Jordan Rubin, unsuprisingly panned the claim in, "Trump's immunity argument highlights the absurdity of his position." The relatively restrained Rubin wrote:Trump is arguing that he cannot be prosecuted for any act in furtherance of his constitutional mandate. Guaranteeing the security and accuracy of election results does fall within his mandate. Straight-up murdering people because he's Big Mad does not. But the propaganda media not only distorts his argument, but then they argue that Trump is claiming "I can whack a guy if I feel like it and it's all legit."That's not really Trump's argument highlighting the absurdity of anything, and more like Judge Pan's doing so, but whatever. Rubin also said Trump is a good bet to lose his argument, adding, "Trump lawyer John Sauer asked the panel to pause any decision against the former president" while "he challenges it on higher appeal." ... Even more incredible was a parade of reports appearing to claim Trump himself argued the "SEAL Team Six" idea. "Sen. Schatz warns of 'new turn' for Trump with 'Seal Team 6' claim," was the header for a Chris Hayes interview of Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz. Schatz said it was "one thing" when Trump was "essentially engaging in stochastic terrorism," but here "the official position of Trump's lawyers is going to be that he could order a murder of his political rivals using SEAL Team 6." Wow. Really? Yes, according to Newsweek, which wrote in its opening paragraph:See Taibbi for reportage on what really happened. This leftwing judge kept asserting that Trump's theory would mean that that he can whack anyone he likes, and his team kept saying, "No, it doesn't mean that at all." And the media's take? "Trump argues he should be allowed to kill people like fucking Jason Vorhees at summer camp." Back to NBC "News:"There's a long list of similar headlines. The Hill: "Trump team argues assassination of rivals is covered by presidential immunity." Mediaite: "Trump Lawyer Argues Presidents CAN Order Seal Team 6 To Assassinate Rivals In Stunning Appeals Courtroom Exchange." The Bulwark, semi-humorously: "Trump's Lawyers Argue Biden Can Assassinate Him." Maryland's Jamie Raskin, gaining fast in the always-heated race for a rep as the dumbest current member of congress, fretted to fellow gentleman-scholar Wolf Blitzer on CNN: Now, bracing for Trump's potential return, a loose-knit network of public interest groups and lawmakers is quietly devising plans to try to foil any efforts to expand presidential power, which could include pressuring the military to cater to his political needs.Oh you mean an extraconstitutional, election-"fortifying" unelected "resistance" is organizing to stop a duly-elected president from executing the office to which he was fairly elected by the American people? I mean, you're doing that... again? The plan includes threats to (checks notes).. use the power of the state to harass and prosecute Trump's appointees. Wow, we sure don't want Trump using the power of the state to harass and prosecute his enemies! 1, Trump is bad because he might prosecute political enemies 2, We're going to keep Trump in line by threatening to prosecute his political allies Democracy cannot survive with half of the country insisting on the right to destroy anyone who disagrees with them. Democracy is already dead, thanks to the left. A poll finds the public split on whether Biden's disastrous economy or "protecting democracy" is the more important issue. Bear in mind, Biden voters have literally no positive reasons to vote for this catastrophic stroke patient except for protecting abortion-on-demand and "protecting democracy." So obviously all Democrats will claim that "protecting democracy" is super-important. That said, the fact that 50% of likely voters say that "protecting democracy" i more important is a bad sign for Trump. That means that 50% of the public is announcing they'll vote for Biden, because obviously no one but Biden voters would say that this is the more important imperative. Likely voters across the political aisle diverge on whether having a strong economy or functioning democracy is a bigger concern over the next few years, according to a new CBS/YouGov poll. Fifty percent of the total likely voters polled said having a strong economy is the higher concern, while the other half of respondents said having a functioning democracy was the bigger concern.Update: Commenters are saying that that 50% includes Republicans as well, who might have their own (justified) concerns about the left destroying democracy itself. Eric Blade read further into the article than I did -- whoops -- and yes, more than one third of Republicans say defending democracy is more important than the economy. Broken down by party identification, 64 percent of Democratic voters said having a functioning democracy as a higher concern, and 36 percent listed having a strong economy as the bigger concern. Among Republican voters, 35 percent said a functioning democracy was a greater concern while 65 percent said a strong economy was more of a concern.Okay, well, my interpretation of the 50% as being all (or nearly all) likely Biden voters is just wrong, then. Like Martin Luther King Jr. before me, I have erred and been made to pay dearly for my sins by racists (you). Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Obviously a democracy is just rubber stamping the same party to be elected over in meaningless elections as they further consolidate power across the government, military, media, and every other sector of life until you live in a de facto 1 party state.
Power peacefully changing hands between parties and candidates with differing agendas as the result of fair and honest elections is not that. It's fascism, or something. Posted by: brak at January 15, 2024 03:41 PM (AR07F) 25

New intelligence shows conclusively that the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941 was actually done by a flight of Antarctic Emperor Penguins disguised as Japanese airplanes. As a result we are transferring all senior military staff promoted since the Obama administration took over to Thule Antarctica to ensure that the Penguins don't launch another attack against the United States. Gen Milley will be personally assigned to perform twice daily head counts of the penguins to make sure they don't mass for attack again.

The opposite of that is "Trying to Prove I Haven't Lost any Strength or Endurance Since I Was 19" Plan. As the Barky administration moved us along towards banana Republic, use the gub'mint against political opponents I had this image that some day there would be a clear demarcation that our government was now evil and I'd join a host of underground rebels like the French resistance working against the NAZIs.
Now? It seems like I'll wake up one day having been arrested and sentenced to a gulag while doing nothing more than venting a bit online and daring to vote for Trump. Posted by: PaleRider at January 15, 2024 04:54 PM (3cGpq) 318

The political violence is going to get sporty. Soon. Perhaps sooner than we think. Given the left's telegraphing of their intentions.
How soon after that kicks off does the general public begin to get concerned? Probably not for a while. Posted by: Martini Farmer at January 15, 2024 04:54 PM (Q4IgG) 321

Getting close to bitchers and cashiers heading to Florida. And with that Oli "Bazbol be belly belly good to me" Marmol says:
[He] believes keys to Cardinals success this season will come from accountability and trust. That, or hitters making contact, and fielders getting to balls hit in their general direction. But sure, faith and trust and pixy dust leads to pennants. Egad, I hate modern baseball. Posted by: BurtTC at January 15, 2024 04:55 PM (Tzvqf) 323
The Disney Grooming Syndicate’s latest box office humiliation is so humiliating; after shaking my head in disbelief like a cartoon character, I had to double-check it.
But glory be, it’s true. It’s true! Yes, Pixar’s Soul is a 2020 title produced for wide theatrical release and thwarted by all the stupid, anti-science social distancing during the pandemic. Yes, it was released on Disney+, the Disney Grooming Syndicate’s money-losing streaming service… I am a fair man who readily acknowledges all those caveats. Still, y’all… Soul, a feature-length animated film starring a black character, was released into 1,350 theaters over the Martin Luther King Jr. four-day holiday weekend and grossed exactly — get ready to laugh — $557,000. That’s about 25 percent of the projected two million, which makes my heart sing. On Friday, Soul grossed a measly $99 per theater. http://tinyurl.com/ympdec9w Posted by: andycanuck (2yu8s) at January 15, 2024 04:55 PM (2yu8s) 324
And just like in 2020, you can still count on the Republicans to sellout their own president at every opportunity, because selling to the highest bidder is what the Corporate Whore, Party of Lying, Coward Shitbags Who Can Go Fuck Themselves is great at doing.
Although we agree in spirit, I have to disagree in fact. The GOP DOES NOT sell out to the highest bidder. They'd never sell out to the public, even if the public was the highest bidder. And the public was, in the Tea Party Wave. Their political contributions went to Nirvana. Their majorities were never better. Life was never easier for a Republican. That's not what they wanted. Folks - and this will get push-back here, but I don't care. The leadership of the GOP, even though McConnell is from Kentucky, is still Old School Ivy League North East Republicanism. The rest of us not living in the North East ? We won't find a party until we reject the party from the North East. Posted by: I Have No Party at January 15, 2024 04:56 PM (5cfJ1) 325
315 Trump did not belong to the DC Facade party. I don't think Vivek does either. I would have thought DeSantis doesn't but the self-Scott-Walkering DeSantis is doing makes me wonder.
Posted by: Axeman at January 15, 2024 04:53 PM (OaZlZ) Gotta admit at this point, I don't like Trump very much. He has done things I really don't agree with... BUT... I see DC as the greater threat... and he IS an enemy of DC... they have made him one. I will crawl over broken glass, to go vote for Trump... as I see his election as a cruise missile shot at DC. And he knows certain facts and customs that they, as the upper class, use as gates. But put Ted Cruz on a chess board. Or cards. Or anything where he doesn't have inside early knowledge or the lever of money - and he's just equal to you and me ? Well, I like my chances. And the chances of at least half the folks here. If you're a citizen ? Then no evidence is supposed to be "confidential". Everything is supposed to be above board. That's a great big part of the problem. You can't commit treason without being a citizen. And you can't be a citizen without a full display of the evidence, in an open court of law.
