Filthy and disgusting as these birds are, not only in their appearance but in all their habits, they are of almost indispensable utility to mankind in those countries where they are found. They may be considered the scavengers of hot climates. In conjunction with other animals of similar appetites and propensities, they clear away, by devouring them, all the remains of animal substances which otherwise would be left to putrefy, and would infect the air with the most noxious effluvia.

They not only devour the filth of the towns and villages, but also destroy, in great numbers, the eggs of alligators; which animals otherwise would become intolerable by their prodigious increase. The penguins watch the females in the act of depositing their eggs in the sand; and, as soon as they retire into the water, dart to the spot and feed upon their contents.

That area of Iceland has had a number of eruptions over the last five years. The fissure line that the town sits on has been inactive for 800 years. Until now.
This is a slow moving event. There was an eruption last month, and the ground subsided to previous levels. However, the ground resumed rising, and the magma shifted and found new locations to break through, along the old fissure/dike. Pretty interesting that it blew off at about the same ground elevation as before, as measured by the seismograph that is believed to be above the main lava chamber. Against a background of war breaking out in Europe and the Mexican fiesta Day of Death, we are taken through one day in the life of Geoffrey Firmin, a British consul living in alcoholic disrepair and obscurity in a small southern Mexican town in 1939. The Consul's self-destructive behaviour, perhaps a metaphor for a menaced civilization, is a source of perplexity and sadness to his nomadic, idealistic half-brother, Hugh, and his ex-wife, Yvonne, who has returned with hopes of healing Geoffrey and their broken marriage.

Posted by: Penguin Facts If the penguins start slacking on the gator-egg-eating, you can import some shoebills. They eat baby alligators. Posted by: mikeski at January 15, 2024 08:08 PM (DgGvY) 106

No Asa speakers. No Ryan Binkley(?) speakers. No Haley speakers. No DeSantis speaker. The precinct head gave a decent little speech supporting Vivek Ramaswamy. He worked for Ron Paul back in the day, then Rand Paul. Says Vivek will protect individual rights, expose deep state, the war machine, corrupt media, cut government spending, etc.
That last name pulled, Donald Trump, had a speaker lined up and ready with a hat that said "Trump Caucus Captain". Wait, last minute change! Since the scheduled DeSantis speaker isn't here, someone volunteered to speak on his behalf. He's talking a lot about faith and religion. He spoke with DeSantis and asked him where he stood with his faith. When talking with him, DeSantis gave a longer answer on his religion and faith than any policy issue, and that's what matters most to them. Lots of jokes from the precinct head on how we're not Democrats, so we have transparency in counting the vote. All the papers piled up on a desk, with reps from each candidate observing. Each ballot is counted out loud as they are revealed.
Wow...lots of DeSantis and Vivek up first. It's like a weird race as he slowly counts the ballots out loud, one at a time. Trump's closing, but DeSantis is holding strong. Nikki stumbles out of the gate with one, while Binkley hasn't even started. DeSantis is maintaining his lead, but a sudden spurt of Trump votes at the end may give him a win by a nose! But I have to hit back a little bit because there was a time before the year 2000 when people would spend tons of money and tons of time simply because they supported their team. Back in the day people talked about their team meeting their tone now they talk about their team meeting their fantasy football team. It’s an I first generation now. >>You think so? They were in the tank for him in 2016, at least during the primaries, and I can see the same this year. He's good for ratings, and they think he has the worst matchup with Biden. What's not for them to love?
They pushed him in 2016 because they thought he would be the easiest to beat. That didn't work out so well for them. It's silly to keep pretending that Trump will do the worst against Biden. Trump already beat Biden once, everyone knows the election was stolen and people should stop pretending that didn't happen if they want any credibility, and despite what many DeSantis supporters said a few months ago Trump is currently beating Biden in every single swing state. 371, in retrospect yes but George Bush wasn’t all that bad. it’s his son that bothers me because he legit abandoned the Republican party. They used to call Dole, middle of the road, A squish, I guess today they would say he was deep state. But he stood loyal to the Republican party, and he remained loyal to Trump. Yes George Walker Bush was not a movement conservative, but I don’t think it’s fair to compare him to his progeny and the Cherry’s. You can’t criticize a man for what he did not do.

Bush abandoned this party after he left office. he was a big government status all along and we were dumb to choose him because we thought he would bring in Hispanics as a popular Texas governor.
The only reason I would think McCain might’ve been better is not over politics, or having some correct compass to guide him. But McCain was more cutthroat. He would side with his own team if he thought it would gain him advantage. Politically I don’t respect McCain, but I do think he would’ve stood with his side if they stood with him. As you and the previous poster said, either you're in to win, or you aren't...the apologies are about Covid and the J6 folks...not about running. These are two BIG holes that cost him folks...
~~~~~ Folks can argue about Covid, but to hold Trump responsible for J6 and criticizing him for not pardoning people is ridiculous. He was president for exactly two weeks after J6-- 14 days. No one knew what the hell was going on as far as arrests were concerned. No one knew if there really were people who assaulted police or committed other crimes. Enough with the J6 crap. This nonsense about Nikki people not voting for Trump...well of course not, those are the party switchers who want her and will vote for Biden
396 If Biden continues to perform poorly, they will find someone else. They've done it before in various races. 81 and stumbling they would have accepted, but 81 , stumbling and losing to Trump ? they will not accept.
Posted by: Titanium White at January 15, 2024 10:12 PM (/2Hy+) Maybe the billionaire money made DeSantis look bad, too. Or tonight's whine about "election interference? Lots of reasons to dislike him to choose from. Jeff Roe sux too Posted by: GOP sux at January 15, 2024 10:15 PM (Zzbjj) 464
>>Sure . Everything you insisted would happen happened.
What I insisted would happen and you insisted wouldn't is that Durham would do his job and prosecute those he could but he would definitely expose the Russia collusion hoax. Halfwits like you kept insisting he was a deep state plant doing nothing because Sean Davis' twitter said so. I never guaranteed any particular indictments. You were wrong. I was right. Now go change your name again. Posted by: JackStraw at January 15, 2024 10:21 PM (ZLI7S) 467
442 417, I am honest here I always tell it like it is. I supported McCain versus W in 2000. my reasons were based on my families, military experience, and McCain, military experience and little else.
I know as a politician he’s one of the biggest jag offs in history. But I’m very disappointed in George W. Bush because he basically became a non-entity he abandoned his party. He is nothing to us. If we don’t all get behind Trump, now we is a party almost deserve to lose. We tried the moderates like McCain, Dole, and Bush Senior, and they all lost. I also like Vivek, and Desantis, though I am voting for Trump. I think people are pretty stupid when they bash the and DeSantis and support Trump I get rooting for your guy but let’s be real here. I am glad we have three good people pushing our ideas. I do think our only chances Trump by the way and I am all in Posted by: Quint at January 15, 2024 09:58 PM (NevXa) I agree with you on this. I've laid my marker down as an OnlyTrumper a long time ago, but I still like Vivek and Heavy D. I thought from the beginning that DeSantis should have sat this one out until '28, or at the very least occupied the lane that Vivek ended up taking. There are at least a handful who are quite. knowledgeable. But deceased artist Bob Ross always used titanium white for his paintings in his tv shows. Ross was a Florida resident, passing in 1995.
