I think there is a happy medium there. Materialism does not make most people happy in the long run. Also the corporate world is now quite toxic due to conflict mongerers and mgmt fear of lawsuits and bad press.
Kids are more important for the future anyway than being a cog in the corporate wheel or a street level bureaucrat.

Right now, wages suck next to inflation, they haven't caught up. Put taxation and absolute bullsh__ and the chance to get robbed or stuck in traffic or blackballed for saying something offhand by the meangirls with guns, then the best thing to do is something else.
No advancement, running as fast as you can to stay in one place, and the pay sucks and won't make enough to cover the daycare costs anymore.

One of my relatives works at a Catholic college that is holding steady. He noted that the hard science professors are devout, and the maths/sciences students are a bigger population than the humanities. The other college that's doing well is commuter-friendly.

Compelling life history including heroism in WWII, overcoming severe injuries from that conflict, long line of distinguished actual policy accomplishments and majority leader of the Senate. He ran a campaign against Slick Willy. Lost a possibly winnable race through an uninspired campaign and an inability to connect with the general public.
DeSantis campaign managers have run a dreadful campaign, the candidate is not a particularly happy warrior type, and doesn't seem to be connecting with average folks. He was running primarily on being the anti-Trump and every slip he does like the platform shoes or the Ukraine waffle just make him seem inauthentic which is damaging next to Trump.

Write off the education part of property taxes. Do NOT throw good children at bad public education. Privatize.

One of my relatives works at a Catholic college that is holding steady. He noted that the hard science professors are devout, and the maths/sciences students are a bigger population than the humanities. The other college that's doing well is commuter-friendly.

Good point that schools with solid reps and a regional reputation for rigor in STEM type classes will do ok.
A lot of commuter schools have less campus toxicity simply because students aren't around much outside of classes. Those types of schools may continue to get non trad students if they keep their prices and fees cheaper than competition.

205 Abbott has done something I never thought he'd do - he appears to have ordered Texas officials to seize control of the border near Eagle Pass. Including any fed facilities.

DeSantis outside of the first plane to Martha's Vineyard and the second abortive one to DC that landed in Nashville has simply not sent the masses that Abbott has. Kudos to 'Boneless' for that.

Rebel News is a conservative Canadian media outlet often featured on our sister blog up there, Small Dead Animals. A member of Trudeau's security team tricked one of their reporters into bumping into him and then arrested him for assault. There's been a huge backlash as the entire incident was caught on film and it's obvious that the security officer went to great lengths to set the reporter up. ( I believe he was quickly released) it was the kind of move you'd have expected from Bulgarian communists back in the day - brutal and incredibly stupid.

That is part of it but those students want to stay in the US. That is a coming big issue in a lot of state legislatures that fund significant parts of these universities. Bad economic times and joblessness is more likely to result in state colleges and universities being compelled to do things against their will like on tuition, etc.

My daughter is Gen Z.
She is just about to hit the workforce after this next semester. I have heard her say some of her friends are rethinking things and allowing that it might not be so bad to be a trophy wife.
That is a step in the right direction, but still not a healthy attitude of finding someone to build a life with instead of sponger off of.

The funny thing about "you will own nothink and be happy" is that when you accept it, there is no reason to keep busting your butt trying to keep up with the Jones. So there is no real motivation to not stay home and have the joy of raising your kids instead. You will have nothing, but still you will have your kids.

I remember Fruit Stripe gum fondly. We used to call is "Zebra Stripe" gum as kids, because it had a Zebra with multi-colored stripes on the package. Yet another small joy of my childhood disappearing. Just as colas in glass bottles and video arcades and Boy Scout camping trips, another happy item from a more appreciative time will be gone. How it makes my heart yearn.

I question how a few airstrikes can keep a band with drones from moving up and keeping the straights shut at any time at a trivial cost compared to a naval strike force.
Likely will require boots on the ground, and lookee all our stuff is in Ukraine.
