Corn cannibals cook a captive cob.

Norway's fjord highways are kinda crazy.

Fans of cicadas, boy has Massimo got some great news for you!

Massimo
@Rainmaker1973

You may know that cicadas spend most of their lives as underground nymphs, emerging in cycles of 13 or 17 years (coincidentally two prime numbers).

The years when the two cycles emergence coincide are therefore rare, and one is 2024.

The 17-year cicada and the 13-year cicada, which are periodical cicadas, are scheduled to emerge in Middle Tennessee in 2024.

The broods co-emerge every 221 years. The last time the two broods co-emerged was in 1803, the same year as the Louisiana Purchase and Thomas Jefferson was president.

So we've got that going for us, which is nice.

Much like David French, this chipmunk needs a little time to decide if it wants to stuff Deez Nuts in its mouth.

A couple of buddies. An unexpected friendship. A dog is welcomed into the cow family.

Cat has the run of the coffee shop.

Awww.

Sad panda. Happy panda.

"At 10 pm tonight, let's all gather on the street in a way that seems innocent and organic but is really calculated to make people feel uncomfortable and anxious!"

Finicky seal turns his nose up at a small fish and waits for the human to show some respect and give him a big fish.

Boob tracking. Thanks to Robert.

The one thing that unites us. BIG thanks to Robert.

14 The Bats constitute a very singular tribe of quadrupeds, which have the toes of their fore-feet extremely long, and connected together by a very thin and dark-coloured membrane, that extends round the hinder part of their body, and serves the place of wings, in enabling them to flit along the air in pursuit of food.

17 The mode in which the penguin is protected from the attack of enemies more powerful than itself, is by emitting an odour so fetid and abominable that few creatures are able long to continue within its influence. Cattle are said to be so much alarmed by it as to utter the most dreadful bellowings. Clothes that are infected with this smell retain it for many weeks; no washing can render them sweet, and they must be for some time buried in the fresh soil before they are thoroughly cleansed.

34 Humans frequently eat the flesh of the penguin; but great care is requisite in killing it, to prevent any ill effect which would arise from its noxious vapour.

The inhabitants of Chili are very partial to them as coverlids for their beds, and for other useful purposes. The Indians also make purses of them, which they hold in great esteem.

That is a good one.

It is also an excellent example of how a very long lens compresses the scene and makes that mountain look like it is 10' feet away. it also shows how using a high aperture creates a deep depth of field that keeps everything in sharp focus. She also uses a very clever horizon line (the top of the road) to hide that miles long valley on the other side of the hill which enhances how we read how close the mountain is the us, the image viewer.

I may or may not have use similar tricks in my landscape photography.

I would definitely take spiritual well-being guidance from a person who would behave in this way.

132 I had a minister who dealt with The Bible Is Fiction in an imaginative way. He taught a course on the first 100 years of Christianity, but began with a quite modern retelling of a child caught up in the Holocaust. Never brought up the story again. Each week someone would say, What about Michael? and he would say, We'll get to that.

The last day of class we finally said, WHAT ABOUT MICHAEL? And he said, What about him? Someone brought up an incident of the story, someone else disagreed, but after a half hour of arguing while our minister listened, smiling, we had the story in common.

He said, And that's why we can believe the Bible is true. One person may not remember, but together, we do.

I sometimes thought of converting but I can't leave my church right now as I think they need me.

I encourage people I know who are RC to try to find a Latin Mass and fight the good fight within the church they were raised in. Pope Francis won't be Pope forever and there are certainly a lot of Clergy particularly in Africa and parts of Asia who are not on board with the wokeness.

I'm just happy I was around to see it.

We got to watch the perfection of defensive play to the point that the NCAA changed the rules to make it harder for Saban to play defensively (to the point where your starters get ejected arbitrarily for making a tackle that was legal last week), and then change the offensive rules to encourage high scoring in order to counter him even more.

And then the man those rules were written to thwart immediately adapted and won championships on THAT side of the game.

We won't ever see that level of recruiting/coaching again, especially now that the players are free agents and don't have to have any commitment.

Mine has a weird flat spot on the front of the trigger guard, almost like it was dropped and landed perfectly on something in that exact spot (or it was hit with something, I guess). Some nicks and what-not, which I was expecting, but overall I'm not disappointed. I've been wanting a Hi-Power for a while and this one has the added benefit of being an unusual/interesting one.

I also know that I'd kick myself if I didn't get it. I've regretted not buying two other guns before when I had the chance and the money, and I won't do that again.

Posted by: Vanya, Speaking Over 200 MPH Wind at January 12, 2024 08:34 PM (H5IZ1)

They are called "jurisdictions." It's not a good thing. there should be one American Orthodox Church, just like there is in Greece, or Russia, or Serbia, or...etc. but the awfulness of 20th century wars drove a lot of people out of Europe and the Middle East into America. Many times a priest was sent by their Bishops "from home." As most know here, the recent LEGAL refugees and immigrants did not speak English. Orthodox services are chanted and sung in the national language of the people. So there were a lot of different what we now call "jurisdictions." St Tikhon in the early 20th tried to get the jurisdictions together. He was later recalled to become Patriarch in Russia just before the russian coup.
It really is a scandal, and most Orthodox are saddened by it.

I have a box set, called "Just Look Them Straight In the Eye and Say... Pogue Mahone." It has three demo versions of Fairytale of New York on it, and yesterday I was driving, when one of them came on (I play songs randomized on a thumb drive).

Very simple beginning, with Shane singing, with a piano playing, and about halfway through, Kirsty starts to sing, and the band comes on. The lyrics are different.

It's very unpolished. And here I am, driving to the store, hearing Shane and Kirsty, both gone, with tears falling.

I honestly think that's part of why he retired when he did.

He didn't win the championship, but he made the playoffs with that team. The team that, back in September, had people saying he was done. Then he beat Georgia and that bumbling, fumbling, can't-snap team was the absolute equal to the best Michigan team in decades that went on to win the NC.

I think it was probably his greatest coaching accomplishment, and I think that played a big part in his decision.

And then a couple of weeks later a video surfaced of a bunch of recruits standing on the A&M field and being told outright "those folks up in those fancy suites are going to pay you a lot of money to come and play here"

So, this crappy Steelers team, who have no business being in the playoffs, might just sneak into the next round. Tomlin isn't much of a coach but give him a game like this where it's pretty much luck to win it, and well, the Steelers have a shot. They have a gift at winning games they shouldn't. Don't misunderstand. $20-$25/hour was a good wage up until Trump was removed. Now that everything has been intentionally broken it's barely going to be enough to survive very soon. I'm not exaggerating, either. California has set $20 as the minimum wage for fast food workers IIC, and I'm seeing starting pay for Wendys and other places at $17-18/hour around here.

It's weird to see auto tech want ads that pay $22-25 and you've got to bring your own tools and have quite a bit of experience to barely make more than a meth addict burning fries at McDonalds.

From Wikipedia: tonight's serving of dick jokes ...

Origin
Ørsted has its origin in the Danish state-owned company Dansk Naturgas A/S. The company was founded in 1972 to manage gas and oil resources in the Danish sector of the North Sea. After some years, the company was renamed to Dansk Olie og Naturgas A/S (DONG), meaning Danish Oil and Natural Gas. At the beginning of the decade of the 2000s, DONG started to expand itself into the electricity market by taking long positions in electricity companies. In 2005, DONG acquired and merged Danish electrical power producers Elsam and Energi E2 and public utility (electricity distribution) companies NESA, Københavns Energi and Frederiksberg Forsyning. The result of the merger was the creation of DONG Energy.

324 It was announced today that Gonzalo Lira, a US citizen, died in a Ukrainian prison camp. In truth, it was not a surprise. He knew he was likely to die in a Ukrainian prison camp for what he was saying if he couldn't escape Ukraine. He couldn't.

He was an accomplished writer and movie maker who was living in Ukraine during the war. He got some notoriety as a blogger earning the nickname Captain Red Pill, mainly as a shit poster who talked about how guys could hook up. Once the war started he became a critic of the Zelensky regime and the US media for lying about the war. He also knew all about western corruption in Ukraine and particularly the Biden family and their accomplices in the Ukrainian oligarch world. That's why he was killed. Watch the video the media will never show.

Ukraine was the source of the Russia hoax and the reason they pretend Trump and we are some sort of threat to democracy. Because they are. They always accuse us of doing what they are doing.

337 > This brings up something quite... interesting to ponder.
Joe has been down and out for three days. Defense Sec Austin is still out sick, barely out of ICU. And *this* is when the strike on the Houthi's was ordered - the shadow people are pretty openly running the government now. We've said this before, but it's really doubtful whether anyone in Joe's cabinet has anything to do with actually running their agencies.

____________

I think it's been this way for quite a while. Bush, Clinton, Obama, Trump and now *biden never really "ran" the country. Some of those clowns had an personal agenda that meshed with the deep state, or were given an agenda they didn't have any qualms with. Trump may, or may not have been an aberration.

It's clearly apparent no one person is "in charge."

It's a committee run shit show.

Jason Statham has been phoning the same character in for about a decade now. Nothing wrong with it.

The Fast and Furious movies still suck tho.

343 Jason Statham movie 'Bank Job' is a very good un-Statham movie. He's a struggling car salesman hired for a job that goes sideways. Has the mob, British police, and British Intel after him and his small crew. It's un-Statham because he's not fighting his way to a resolution. It's a damn good movie.

345 Our enemies telling us who they are really afraid of running against...

Ed Krassenstein @EdKrassen 13h
I can tell you all right now. Democrats' worst fear is that Nikki Haley beats Donald Trump in the primaries.

Trump has a decent chance of being convicted of federal and/or state crimes before the general election.

Trump has a chance of having his name smeared more in the Epstein files before the General Election.

Nikki Haley has the chance to become the first woman President in American History if nominated. She's also young.

If Republicans nominate Haley, Democrats are in trouble, and they know it. But thankfully for Democrats, Republicans will likely nominate Trump.
====
And, no, it's not Nikki.
