New Star Wars Director: It's About Time a Woman Shaped the Story in a Star Wars Movie; "I Like to Make Men Feel Uncomfortable"

This woman made a few low-budget hardcore feminist documentaries. How does that qualify her to direct -- and, apparently, write -- a would-be blockbuster fiction film?

It doesn't. What qualifies her is the sex organ between her legs and nothing else.

It's incredible, these diversity hires can't stop shrieking about the oppression they experience based upon their gender, sexual preference, or race, while meanwhile getting gigs and promotions based on nothing but their gender, sexual preference, or race.

They tried this before. A woman who had directed a documentary and a very low-budget independent movie was given the reigns of Marvel's The Eternals, and that was Marvel's all-time biggest flop.

Previously, in 2015, she was on a Diversity Panel to talk about her very low-watt career, which is entirely non-notable except for the fact that she insists that The Patriarchy is holding her back from having a noteworthy career, she announced her goal in filmmaking is to "make men uncomfortable."

During an appearance at the Women in the World summit alongside fellow insufferable activist and director Ava DuVernay and actress Meryl Streep, Obaid-Chinoy was asked by activist host Jon Stewart, "As an activist and an artist do you make that calculation, who is my target? You talked a little bit about, 'I want women to watch this and I want them to feel empowered, and I want my daughter to have heroes.' I couldn't help[ but notice a thread through each of these. That the men were a**holes. And I'm wondering as one of them what is the balance of activating a force for change, but also trying to permeate that patriarchy, that power structure? And is that a part of the calculation of your art as well? And what's been the reaction that?"
Obaid-Chinoy responded, "Oh, absolutely. I like to make men uncomfortable. I enjoy making men uncomfortable."
She then added, "It is important to be able to lookin into the eyes of a man and say, 'I am here.' And recognize that. And recognize that I am working to bring something that makes you uncomfortable because you need to change your attitude and it's only when you're uncomfortable, when you're shifty, when you have to have difficult conversations that you will perhaps look at yourself in the mirror and not like the reflection, and then say, 'Maybe there is something wrong with the way I think,' or 'Maybe there is something wrong with the way I am addressing this issue."

Flash forward to this week. She's been named as the Who's That? director of the No-one Asked For This Rey Palpatine Star Wars sequel.

And she says, incredibly, that there are no women at LucasFilm shaping their stories.

It does not appear that Chinoy's opinions have changed much in eight years. During an appearance on CNN's New Year's Eve coverage, Obaid-Chinoy briefly discussed the upcoming film saying, "I am very thrilled about the project because I think what we are about to create is something very special. And we are in 2024 now and I think it's about time we had a woman come forward to shape the story in a galaxy far, far away."

I mean... except for Kaffeine Kennedy, who puts a Kaffeine Kennedy self-insert character into every movie. And except for her "Story Group" of 30 angry lesbians and non-binaries.

Sneider notes, "Daniel Richtman claims there's a Die Hard prequel in the works again over at 20th Century Studio, so so literary reps, start pitching your clients, and don't be surprised if that franchise becomes a priority for the studio in the new year."
Sneider added, "The IP is simply too valuable to sit on a shelf, and with Bruce Willis sidelined due to health problems, the tough decision of whether to bring him back for one last ride has been made for them."

So... What is the stupidest possible prequel storyline they can use, which offers an "origin story" for Die Hard?

Here it is: Rookie detective MacClane is trying to foil a group of criminals who have taken over a NYC financial company's offices and his "inside man" will be the unmarried Holly Gennero (later Holly McClane) who works for the company.

And she'll be an Equal Partner in the heroing, of course. You wouldn't want to watch an action movie through a Patriarchal Lens.

Whomst among you dares bet against me? You know damn well this is what the movie will be, an "origin story" for McClane's ballbuster future ex-wife.

Last line of the movie: "This was a great first date, but let's hope that nothing like this ever happens again." Wink.

I don't care enough about this stuff to shit my pants with rage if someone doesn't know the blood type of a 64th rate character only found in some obscure fan fiction, but Star Wars fans are just awful like that. So to see the series get destroyed in the most humiliating ways possible is great.

Hopefully Disney gets more and more to the point where it needs to get broken up and sold as scrap, and people who want to make good products buy it.

I saw a lot of this the other day, and I mean there could be something to it.

The list isn't just rapist from his island, it's everyone named in the case. This person asked for a delay because they said they feared for their life in their current country.

They should tell us if Doe 107 is a perpetrator, a worker for Epstein, or a victim.

If it's a victim I can understand their worry, as being a rape victim in Muslim countries could get you killed.

If it's one of his clients, than f the delay and hopefully they do get hunted down.

As did I in 2015 on my "No Man Is Free" blog. (Search for "Benzadmiral" and that title.) The year before, at the 50th anniversary convention, I heard from Bob Short that the film would remind us of a couple of the original episodes, and that it was very good. Bob was, and maybe is, a Hollywood insider, a costume and makeup guy (Darryl Hannah's mermaid outfit was his work among other things).

I loved the MfU film. It wasn't exactly like the original, but it had exactly the right spirit and was exciting in its own right.

Disney has already cut back on the funding of creative projects. Disney+ is still bleeding cash. Rumors are that Captain America 4 is getting 100% reshot (it does have 4-5 months of reshoots planned...the length of a full-film shoot).

They're going to do some focus grouping on her ideas, and it's going to go very badly. The project won't get talked about for a year when it will be quietly announced that she has moved on to other projects and Disney is very excited about what she can do with the newest iteration of Earthquake, or something.

Well I was reading a pretty good cop series of books and then started on one where there is a tall male cop (alcoholic) and a black attractive female. They need to solve a crime in LA but it means going to China (visas magically appear overnight) and infiltarting the Forbidden City which is where the Tong is HQed. So visualize this: they are going into a no-no country where they will be watched; go into the FC unseen, and one of them is Black and the other a tall White guy in a sea of mainly short, yellow people. The film I've never seen. I've read the novel twice, and yes, anti-gay is a good word for the story. People laugh, but what if Die Hard, the essential story, had been proposed in say, 1960 or '61? Sinatra would have made a fine John McClane. We'd have lost the "Yippie-ki-yay" line, but then it wasn't in the novel that became DH anyway.

248 Saw "The Mexican" last night. A Gore Verbinsky action comedy that literally put on the breaks in the middle of the movie for roughly half-an-hour to give us a pro-teh ghey public service announcement.

Had nothing to do with the movie's story and murdered the pacing. No wonder the movie flopped.

The funniest thing was Julia Roberts acting so frikking delighted by teh ghey hit man's teh gheyness. You'd of thought he given her 10 million dollars and a ten minute orgasm. Now, that's acting!

My mistake was that I briefly had it confused with "The Counselor" by Ridley Scott when it started and didn't bail out when I realized it wasn't.

I need to see the film. The Detective as a novel is . . . odd. Or maybe it's just Roderick Thorp's writing style. I read it a second time to see if I understood his allusions and dialog better, and I didn't. Nothing Lasts Forever, the novel that became Die Hard, is better, and has nearly all the big action scenes that were in the film.

I'm sometimes easy to please, if the movie is action-packed. I can turn off my brain and just enjoy the explosions and all the other stuff.

I hated Sucker Punch. Don't care for 300 either.

As for Watchmen, I've only ever seen the extended version. The original was apparently cut up so bad it's idiotic, but the version I saw, I liked because some of the actors were very good at portraying the characters I already knew.

There is talent out there, but they're never going to command huge budgets. Those are too managed.

Well, unless you have a terrible idea and get into the Netflix offices. Then you'll have a producer who will let you do whatever you want.

I lay the blame on modern producers. They are either completely hands off or they micromanage. There seems to be no prominent producer who can nudge things better without being overbearing. Spielberg could do it as a producer, but he's not really big in that scene anymore.

There's a "comic book" out there, written by some guy who was sorta making an autobiographical story about his "love is love" affair with a homeless dude.

Supposedly the "homeless guy" was Alan Moore, but for some reason the comic's creator changed the character... somewhat. Alan wrote a forward for the book, which is horrible by any standard, claiming it's a masterpiece or something.

Geena Davis in "The Long Kiss Goodnight." I liked that one. Gina Carano in "Haywire" was also good. But Sigourney Weaver in "Aliens" (the sequel) was still the best action movie performance by a female.
