Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | New Star Wars Director: It's About Time a Woman Shaped the Story in a Star Wars Movie; "I Like to Make Men Feel Uncomfortable"If you don't care about Star Wars -- like all good people -- feel free to skip the bulk of the post, but make sure you read the last item below. YOU WILL BE MADE TO CARE. This woman made a few low-budget hardcore feminist documentaries. How does that qualify her to direct -- and, apparently, write -- a would-be blockbuster fiction film? It doesn't. What qualifies her is the sex organ between her legs and nothing else. It's incredible, these diversity hires can't stop shrieking about the oppression they experience based upon their gender, sexual preference, or race, while meanwhile getting gigs and promotions based on nothing but their gender, sexual preference, or race. They tried this before. A woman who had directed a documentary and a very low-budget independent movie was given the reigns of Marvel's The Eternals, and that was Marvel's all-time biggest flop. Until the next several. Previously, in 2015, she was on a Diversity Panel to talk about her very low-watt career, which is entirely non-notable except for the fact that she insists that The Patriarchy is holding her back from having a noteworthy career, she announced her goal in filmmaking is to "make men uncomfortable." Well I'm entirely unaware of your Claudine Gay level of output so: You've failed. I am not uncomfortable. I feel nothing for you, except a gnawing sense that I really should be thinking about something else more important.During an appearance at the Women in the World summit alongside fellow insufferable activist and director Ava DuVernay and actress Meryl Streep, Obaid-Chinoy was asked by activist host Jon Stewart, "As an activist and an artist do you make that calculation, who is my target? You talked a little bit about, 'I want women to watch this and I want them to feel empowered, and I want my daughter to have heroes.' I couldn't help[ but notice a thread through each of these. That the men were a**holes. And I'm wondering as one of them what is the balance of activating a force for change, but also trying to permeate that patriarchy, that power structure? And is that a part of the calculation of your art as well? And what's been the reaction that?" Obaid-Chinoy responded, "Oh, absolutely. I like to make men uncomfortable. I enjoy making men uncomfortable." She then added, "It is important to be able to lookin into the eyes of a man and say, 'I am here.' And recognize that. And recognize that I am working to bring something that makes you uncomfortable because you need to change your attitude and it's only when you're uncomfortable, when you're shifty, when you have to have difficult conversations that you will perhaps look at yourself in the mirror and not like the reflection, and then say, 'Maybe there is something wrong with the way I think,' or 'Maybe there is something wrong with the way I am addressing this issue."
It does not appear that Chinoy's opinions have changed much in eight years. During an appearance on CNN's New Year's Eve coverage, Obaid-Chinoy briefly discussed the upcoming film saying, "I am very thrilled about the project because I think what we are about to create is something very special. And we are in 2024 now and I think it's about time we had a woman come forward to shape the story in a galaxy far, far away."
Becky Riordan, who happens to be the wife of Percy Jackson and the Olympians creator Rick Riordan as well as an Executive Producer on the Disney+ live-action adaptation of the series, recently revealed that one of the series' main goals was to "not have a patriarchal lens."Women who only has a job because she married the male creator is so darned mad about the Patriarchy! I've saved the worst for last. You all are probably thinking that you haven't cared about Star Wars since 1983, and that you never cared about Percy Jackson. So what is left on the table for Disney to ruin? You're safe. Disney has no control over any properties you care about. Oh my poor naive friends: you just have no idea how insidious Disney is, and how many franchises they picked up in the Fox buyout. A new rumor claims that The Walt Disney Company and its subsidiary 20th Century Studios are working on a prequel to the John McTiernan and Bruce Willis classic Die Hard. This latest rumor comes from Daniel Richtman via Jeff Sneider's The Insneider newsletter. Sneider notes, "Daniel Richtman claims there's a Die Hard prequel in the works again over at 20th Century Studio, so so literary reps, start pitching your clients, and don't be surprised if that franchise becomes a priority for the studio in the new year." Sneider added, "The IP is simply too valuable to sit on a shelf, and with Bruce Willis sidelined due to health problems, the tough decision of whether to bring him back for one last ride has been made for them."So... What is the stupidest possible prequel storyline they can use, which offers an "origin story" for Die Hard? Here it is: Rookie detective MacClane is trying to foil a group of criminals who have taken over a NYC financial company's offices and his "inside man" will be the unmarried Holly Gennero (later Holly McClane) who works for the company. And she'll be an Equal Partner in the heroing, of course. You wouldn't want to watch an action movie through a Patriarchal Lens. Whomst among you dares bet against me? You know damn well this is what the movie will be, an "origin story" for McClane's ballbuster future ex-wife. Last line of the movie: "This was a great first date, but let's hope that nothing like this ever happens again." Wink. Whomst doubts that that's what this piece of shit will be? Whomst!?! Bring himst who doubts before me! Dystopian Anti-Entertainment Company Disney We can ruin it for you wholesale. Yippie-ki-yay, Mouse Hitler. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

An origin story for Die Hard? What the hell? Tired, separated old cop trying to make up with his estranged, successful wife and becomes the open hero was the original plot. Who was successful? Not him! That's already feminist.
And Ace, you haven't nearly grasped the potential depravity. Odds are that Holly is at least bisexual and left John for a better life with her lover. At least 50% that John also has at least an interest in a gay lover. After all, they have to include that in every Disney product. Posted by: Virginia SoCon at January 03, 2024 03:40 PM (a/dOO) 22

Star Wars *should* be a license to print money.
Until Disney bought the property, it was fairly lucrative, I believe, with any number of games, comic books, and novels that all take place in a diverse galactic milieu. Now it's just woke BS after woke BS. Nothing new or original at all. Their "New Jedi Order" will just be a rehash of some other storyline--most likely plagiarized from the original Expanded Universe materials, like the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. Only this time it will be stopped by Rey's amazing GRRRL POWER! Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel at January 03, 2024 03:41 PM (7fElN) 24

Let's get real. Die Hard ain't "too valuable to sit on a shelf." It's not valuable at all. They've already squeezed -- and squeezed and squeezed -- whatever juice they could get from the franchise. It's over. It's done.
Whatever fond memories Gen X and older has for the original Die Hard and the (good) sequels, the younger generations couldn't pick John McClane out of a lineup. As an anime fan, I hate how so many series now basically have the females in the show become nothing more than moist crotched simpletons, falling over themselves to be with the little bitch male lead.....but I hope series like those become bigger and so much more prominent, just to stick it to companies like Disney who are attempting to push things in a complete opposite direction. At least with anime they know their fan base, Disney is just doing this because leftist want to destroy everything they touch.
As for Star Wars, this is hilarious to me, I've never been a big fan (the first 3 were good, Im in the minority of liking RotJ the best) but I've always hated star wars fans. Even as a nerd, the star wars nerds were just insufferable. I don't care enough about this stuff to shit my pants with rage if someone doesn't know the blood type of a 64th rate character only found in some obscure fan fiction, but Star Wars fans are just awful like that. So to see the series get destroyed in the most humiliating ways possible is great. Under the old, old copyright regime, Star Wars would by 9 years away from being public domain (under the very safe assumption that Lucas/Fox would have renewed the copyright after the first 28 years).

The film I've never seen. I've read the novel twice, and yes, anti-gay is a good word for the story. People laugh, but what if Die Hard, the essential story, had been proposed in say, 1960 or '61? Sinatra would have made a fine John McClane. We'd have lost the "Yippie-ki-yay" line, but then it wasn't in the novel that became DH anyway.

I have a back up plan; let’s send these shrill, misandrist talentless twats to a galaxy far,far away. John McClane doesn’t need an origin story; “Die Hard” was his story. That movie told us what we needed to know; he’s a tough, resourceful NYPD detective who’s also stubborn and prideful and a wiseass. What more do we need? Saw "The Mexican" last night. A Gore Verbinsky action comedy that literally put on the breaks in the middle of the movie for roughly half-an-hour to give us a pro-teh ghey public service announcement.
Had nothing to do with the movie's story and murdered the pacing. No wonder the movie flopped. The funniest thing was Julia Roberts acting so frikking delighted by teh ghey hit man's teh gheyness. You'd of thought he given her 10 million dollars and a ten minute orgasm. Now, that's acting! My mistake was that I briefly had it confused with "The Counselor" by Ridley Scott when it started and didn't bail out when I realized it wasn't. Avoid. Lemme spell this out for ya sugar tits.... Real, good women want real, good men. We want a man who sweats and swears. We want a man who is competent and confident. If he doesn't know or cannot do something he for damn sure tries to find out or learn it if it's important. If it's not important we don't expect him to master it because we are interested in the topic and we don't try to bully him about it! We like men who have balls. Balls they can use to fuck or fight. We know he will keep us safe and satisfied. And we don't demand that he store those balls in our handbags and ask for permission to use them! We want men who will tell you to take your feminist horse shit and shove it up your ass. Our men want feminine women and mock the hell out of feminine men or ball buster women. They like that we are strong, smart determined and still feminine. A good man, A real man can handle us easily at our worst so we, the real women, the good women give him our best. Many of these were considered "B" movies, and yet the quality of writing and cinematography far surpasses the dreck that's on offer today. As well they should. She was magnificent. A force of nature. Posted by: Way, Way Downriver at January 03, 2024 04:46 PM (FCs/J) Posted by: Pug Mahon, Aspiring Codger at January 03, 2024 04:47 PM (T/Lqj) 381
Some critics spoke of a conservative kamikaze attack on Gay, referring to a tactic from World War 2 in which Allied naval forces would deliberately ram their ships into Japanese planes

Color me shocked... The new Star Wars director is/was in the leadership of the World Economic Forum.
This is cronyism of the highest type. She is likely in no way qualified for anything. I bet she wasn't even really the "filmmaker" on the documentary she put out. This is a placement. Mark my words - they will have Star Wars characters eating bugs and bragging about how they own nothing and are happy. Posted by: Jake Speed at January 03, 2024 05:08 PM (Vu1jV) 384
Good news! At long last the federal student aid application is being simplified to make it more equitable and less racist. Less questions and more languages.

95 Girl power movies I liked and I normally hate hate girl power movies
Peppermint Red Sparrow Atomic Blonde Alien Can’t think of any others. Posted by: Titanium White at January 03, 2024 03:52 PM (MNhXM) Geena Davis in "The Long Kiss Goodnight." I liked that one. Gina Carano in "Haywire" was also good. But Sigourney Weaver in "Aliens" (the sequel) was still the best action movie performance by a female. Consider how her daughter is under press as captive having Holly Gennero kicking butt wouldn't that be far out. Only have her use her brain not brawn.

You should be like me, nobody decides what is canon but me. Not the author, not the director, not the studio, just me. If they make some dumb thing I don't like, it didn't happen.

What does she mean when she says she likes to make men uncomfortable? Does it involve her slowly unbuttoning her blouse while having coffee in a public setting?
Posted by: Northernlurker at January 03, 2024 03:35 PM (AN/rm) She's dreaming if she thinks that men think of her any longer than they do the dog crap they step in after they clean off the shoe. For the same reason. Posted by: Oldcat at January 03, 2024 05:11 PM (eoQWY) 389
To be fair a Die Hard prequel has to be better than the Die Hard sequels.
Posted by: Titanium White at January 03, 2024 03:47 PM (MNhXM) You really are new at this. They can make John McLain die in their prequel. Posted by: Oldcat at January 03, 2024 05:15 PM (eoQWY) 390

Before the "critical" period of literary criticism, we were taught that a novel or drama, regardless of who leapt about and did the swordwork, was about the one character whose internal motivations were changed by the events of the action.
By this old standard, Die Hard is already about Al Powell. Posted by: Way, Way Downriver at January 03, 2024 04:42 PM (FCs/J) No, John introduced his wife to Al as Holly Gennero and she corrected that to Holly McLain so both of them had gone through an arc and were now reconciled. Al had an arc too, for sure. Posted by: Oldcat at January 03, 2024 05:20 PM (eoQWY) 392
I'm sure there's some psychological term for when feminists have to deny the existence of other women who did something before and better than the feminist did, in order for the feminist to be able to claim to have been first.
Y'know, something other than "Did Not Do The Research" Posted by: FeatherBlade at January 03, 2024 04:33 PM (ou9hh) Feminists hate women as much as they hate men, if not more. Posted by: Oldcat at January 03, 2024 05:21 PM (eoQWY) 393
Yep. Riordan has a series of books based around Norse mythology and one of the main characters is gender-fluid. He/she makes a big deal about being mis-gendered and occasionally will announce to everyone else that they are now the opposite gender.

Your synopsis of the story sounds about right. But McClane will be shown as a tired, washed out, broken down, loser. And Holly will be constantly telling him what an idiot he is, what a failure, how he isn't as strong as the strong female protagonist.
Oh, and at one point, Holly will save the day, by kicking the bad guy in the balls, and McClane will say, 'Yeowch, you just got taken out...by a girl!" and she'll say "No, by a WOMAN!" Then shell grab McClane and kiss him. Roll credits. It's not that these ideas are bad, they are. It's that they are so fucking predictable. Meanwhile at Disney....
"You know how guys love Die Hard movie?" "yeah." "What if we could take that same success, but get women to love it just as much?' "Why Johnson, you are a genius!" Two years later.... "Okay, not only did the movie lose money, but now both men and women hate Die Hard!" "Yeah, well they are racists misogynistic idiots. My next idea is much better. "Okay - hit me." "What if we remake Rocky...but he's an MMA fighter, and get this, his wife Adrian is also an MMA fighter, and the climax is they have to fight each other, and she WINS!"
