Dave Chappelle Mentions Trans People One Time and Hoboy, the Leftwing Groomer Media Just Can't Deal
Plus: Ricky Gervais and Nate Bergatze

Dave Chappelle just debuted a new comedy special on Netflix.

here's Chappelle's only brief mention of trans people, before announcing he would not continue making jokes about trans people, because they whine too much about it.

He said he'd move on to making fun of handicapped people, who have a less zealous lobby.

This brief mention set the Groomer Media off into paroxysms of outrage. Via John Sexton, here are some of leftwing Groomer Media outlets losing it.

Maybe it's time for Dave Chappelle to try some new material.

The comedian's newest special, "The Dreamer," debuted on Netflix on Dec. 31, and largely focuses on his early years in entertainment and how he manifested his success. But he floods the first 12 minutes of the set revisiting his favorite target in recent years: Transgender people.

Rolling Stone:

It's unfortunate that Chappelle's The Dreamer is, like some of his prior Netflix specials, obsessively fixated on the trans community, because it's not an area he particularly excels at, resorting to puerile premises and punchlines. There are, of course, ways to artfully tell a trans joke -- take Michelle Wolf's recent Netflix specialIt's Great to Be Here -- but Chappelle is apparently incapable of having most of his bits extend beyond mocking genitalia or pronouns. It's not just tired but uninspired...

Do you, like me, immediately assume that the "trans joke" Rolling Stone approves of is actually complimentary to trans people? Well, I'm not sure what joke they mean, but in this one, Michelle Wolf says she "hates gay men because they're better at being women than I am."

Yeah, so, that's Rolling Stone's idea of a well-crafted joke about trans men: one that flatters them as being better women than women.

I didn't see the Chappelle show, but I did watch Ricky Gervais anti-woke comedy special "Armageddon." It's on Netflix, so you'll have to watch it at your transgender niece's.

It was pretty good. I kind of don't like Ricky Gervais because my conservative temperament disapproves of his basic schtick: Trying to upset people, being "subversive." Even when the targets he's choosing are ones I approve of, I just don't like the whole "I'm going to deliberately annoy you now, aren't I a little stinker?" thing.

(I'm not as fond of trolls as some people on the right are for the same reason.)

Despite my not liking the type of comedy he does, he's funny enough that I laugh at most of his stuff anyway. Even if you don't like the West Coast Offense, you can appreciate that Joe Montana was really good at running it.

Here's a bit I didn't actually love, but some of you might enjoy: He brags about deliberately wasting water and energy just to upset Greta Thunberg.

This part is great: He jokes about the so-called "anti-fascists" declaring they're not fascists. He thinks that might indicate someone who actually is a fascist. He also makes a great joke about how the term "fascist" has been redefined into meaninglessness.

In this last joke Ricky Gervais -- don't watch this one at work -- he makes a point about cultural appropriation.

He trolled the left some more:

Now, the comedian I really want to recommend to you is Nate Bargatze. That guy who did the George Washington sketch on SNL, the first funny skit they've done in ten years.

Conservatives should embrace this guy. He works totally clean and is very, very funny. He complains about his parents having become Christian just as he was born, which resulted in him having "less fun than Jesus" when he was growing up.

He was raised a little strict, and became a bit of a moral scold, even to his own parents.

His act is mostly him portraying himself as The Dumb Guy who is always one step behind everyone and very frustrated about that. His frustration over not being able to find the main light switch in a hotel room is funny, and I've been there too.

A lot of comedians do the Dumb Guy act, but signal to you that they're really smart and the dumb-guy thing is a put-on. (Norm MacDonald, for example.) Bargatze commits to being the Dumb Guy without ever hinting that he's smarter than he's playing. And I really like how he shows actual frustration and even anger at always being the Dumb Guy.

He does no manly things around the house and has to bluff his way through interactions with construction guys coming to his home, who wrongly assume that
he's the man of the house.

This bit about having to dig a hole is great.

He has a bunch of special, but those are from Hello, World, which is on Amazon Prime and is his latest show. It's from January 2023. He has definitely evolved and refined his act from the earlier shows I've seen.

Definitely, before you cancel Amazon Prime -- which is now demanding $2.99 per month on top of the $120 you're already paying for it, if you want to continue watching it without commercials -- watch Hello, World. Best show I've seen in a while.

This was my feeling as well. I thought overall it was OK. He's a smart and insightful guy who knows how to push buttons. It just wasn't that funny.

That's a rather odd take on what he does. He doesn't try to be subversive, what he does it stand by his belief that no one is "off-limits." The idea is one you, Ace, have espoused here before.

You don't get a pass. If he can think of something funny to say, whether it offends you or the next guy, he doesn't let that stop him from saying it.

That most people miss the layers doesn't mean they can't appreciate his humor, but those who say he's not funny, it's more likely than not they missed a substantial part of what he was saying.

One of the great amusements of the past couple of years is the slow, grim realization that the entire streaming business model is fundamentally flawed and cannot make for a consistent, transparent or profitable investment without outside measurement and money, which is coming through advertising.

You know, *exactly* like the development of cable TV 40 years ago.

When I turned 50 my wife cajoled me into seeing a primary care doctor for a check up and also because she thought that a proctology exam was necessary and she thought it would be great to have a finger shoved up my ass.

Anyway the nurse was taking my vitals and asked me why I was there and I told her I just turned 50. She said I was in perfect health and it was nice to see someone healthy come in for once.

They took some blood sample and eventually said some enzyme was too high and had to go to a specialist. The specialist did another test and said the enzyme was normal and probably was just within the normal fluctuations.

I think Netflix's early embrace of comedy specials was a very good move, though. They're cheap (dirt cheap) to produce, and they get good numbers.

That's in opposition to something like Rebel Moon which won't increase Netflix's subscription base, will get as many views as two or three bigger comedy specials combined, and cost over $300 million.

My dentist explained that the anesthetic they use nowadays can cause issues with people who have high blood pressure, so for safety (and liability) they want to ensure your blood pressure is in the "safe" range before they start working on your cavities.

It isn't. There will be consolidation. Outside of specialty services like Crunchyroll, Criterion, Britbox, etc., there will be three categories:
- "Free, ad-supported" - Tubi is this.
- "Premium, ad-supported" - this is Netflix, D+, P+, Max, etc. There will be consolidation here. The market is too slammed and there will be some die-off, probably in the next two years.
- "Premium, ad-free" - these will be the top-level tier on services like Netflix, D+, etc. Expect it to cost at least twice as much as the ad tier if not more - and it will still be less profitable than ad-supported but the companies will maintain it because if they don't, the other streamer gets a marketing advantage.

110 Speaking of comedians, I got a chance to see Ryan Long in person at a local comedy show in AZ. He honestly killed it. I took a friend that was sort of skeptical and he was also impressed.

Sometimes "YouTube" type stars can't do both comedy and standup, but I thought he was top tier. Crowd was really enthusiastic also. He also stuck around and did pictures, etc.

Well worth seeing him if he's in your town.

I've mentioned before, there's a Dave Smith clip that went viral last week, where he talks about the Nexis/Lexis search that was done, showing major media publications that started using all the "Woke" words in their stories, starting in 2012.

The data shows exponential growth in using all the terms, not just the trannie stuff, but everything that now fits into that Woke spectrum.

The media started it. It didn't happen organically, people didn't just start talking about all this stuff. It was forced on the public, with intention.

My daughter gave me access to Max, which has ads. I find that I've gotten so accustomed to no ads on Netflix or Prime, that I can't watch the shows with ads anymore. (I never watch network TV since the end of BBT).

My daughter gave me access to Max, which has ads. I find that I've gotten so accustomed to no ads on Netflix or Prime, that I can't watch the shows with ads anymore. (I never watch network TV since the end of BBT).

I don't think I'd mind streaming services' ads so much if the timing on the commercial breaks isn't so routinely terrible. I haven't watched a ton of network reruns on free streamers so I'm not sure about the ads there, but watch a movie on Tubi or something similar and they'll drop a commercial break right in the middle of a sentence.

Amazon does that, too. On conventional TV, movies would be slightly edited-- not just profanity bleeped out, but some scenes would be sped up slightly, scenes would be trimmed or cut, that kind of thing. But any commercial breaks would be between scenes. Credits would be sped up, and/or have voiceovers/splitscreens advertising stuff too-- all to fit into 2 or sometimes 2.5 hour blocks. (one in a while, the TV edit has deleted or alternate scenes, and those don't always show up on DVD.)

There was a an old Willy and Ethel cartoon many many years ago where they're watching a movie in a theater and Willy says something like, "Mark my words-- right *here* is where they'll place the commercial break when it's on TV."

A lot of language and discussion types from 50-60 years ago are sort of "obsolescent" now, and as you have noted, the "media" plays a very large roll (along with academics) in controlling how language is used, words, phrases and ideas are popularized (or made unpopular and then forbidden). How new "ideas" are injected into the popular language, and entertainment.

It's why they call things shown on television as "programming".

His game is simple. He doesn't believe, personally, in a damn thing he does. He's doing this "by emergency" now because he thought, a year or two ago, that he should veto it.

He was one of the most totalitarian Governors during Covid. Because he thought that was what the people wanted. If he "thought" the people all wanted mandatory castration ? He'd make that happen.

In a swing state where gun rights is a potent issue, that was the extent of what the NRA was doing.

Meanwhile, there were lines around the building of people buying ammo because the BLW riots were still pretty raw.

I suspect the Ohio legislature was about to jam a veto override up his a$$, so he decided to "show leadership." A repeat of how the COVID lock-down crap went; the legislature signaled that they were going take away his emergency powers, so suddenly, lock-down was over.

Didn't vote for him in either the primary or general election. Only good thing is that he is on his 2nd term so he's out in two more years.
