THE MORNING RANT: Transgender Role Models vs Anorexic Role Models; Bari Weiss’ Definition of Wokeness

Good morning. With Christmas weekend upon us and an overcrowded calendar, I am going to take a shortcut today and simply link two items I recently read that brilliantly capture a couple of the cultural malignancies of this era: Wokeness and the Transgender Social Contagion.

1) Bari Weiss Defines and Battles Wokeness

When Ms. Weiss is discussed, many people on the right like to point out that she is not a traditional God-and-guns conservative. Maybe not, but she is a gay, Jewish liberal who has been mugged by reality, and who bravely left an elite position at the NY Times to do battle against the woke insanity. Being a defector from the left, she is a target of the woke mob’s fury, so I admire her bravery and the success she is having.

In this piece calling for the end of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (“DEI”, she has given the best summation I have read of what wokeness is, which includes all its pseudonyms and tentacles such as “Social Justice,” “Anti-Racism,” “Progressivism,” “Critical Race Theory,” etc.

What I saw was a worldview that replaced basic ideas of good and evil with a new rubric: the powerless (good) and the powerful (bad). It replaced lots of things. Color blindness with race obsession. Ideas with identity. Debate with denunciation. Persuasion with public shaming. The rule of law with the fury of the mob.
People were to be given authority in this new order not in recognition of their gifts, hard work, accomplishments, or contributions to society, but in inverse proportion to the disadvantages their group had suffered, as defined by radical ideologues.

During the 2022 elections, one of the media’s favorite gotcha questions for Republican candidates was to define “wokeness” if the candidate was campaigning against the woke agenda. Ms. Weiss nailed the definition of wokeness with that description.

There’s plenty more at the link, which I’d encourage you to read. Near her conclusion she states:

It is time to end DEI for good. No more standing by as people are encouraged to segregate themselves. No more forced declarations that you will prioritize identity over excellence. No more compelled speech. No more going along with little lies for the sake of being polite.

“No more going along with little lies for the sake of being polite.” This is so critical, and it doesn’t just apply to wokeness. We could have stopped the climate cult’s suicidal agenda a long time ago if we had stopped politely respecting their intentions to “save” the environment.

Ms. Weiss is speaking on behalf of her fellow Jews with this final quote, but it applies to everyone:

We will persist, one way or another. But DEI is undermining America, and that for which it stands—including the principles that have made it a place of unparalleled opportunity, safety, and freedom for so many. Fighting it is the least we owe this country.

2) The Transgender Social Contagion

This was written by Mia Carpenter of Environmental Progress (Michael Shellenberger’s right-of-center policy outfit) pointing out the similarity between the transgender social contagion and others like it over the past 50 years.

Karen Carpenter's tragic battle triggered a social contagion of anorexia; Princess Diana's public struggle with bulimia had the same effect.
The book Sybil kicked off the multiple personality disorder epidemic in the 80s. Running parallel to that was the Satanic Panic, set off by the book Michelle Remembers. As a result, thousands of lives were destroyed.
As cutting started to appear in movies and TV shows, the number of teens self-harming increased, and when TikTok influencers with Tourette's launched to fame, adolescent girls began experiencing TikTok tics.
Mental illnesses are inextricably entwined with the cultural fads and whims of the era in which they arise. Our celebration of the likes of Jazz Jennings and Ellen Page captures the minds of young people, plants the dangerous idea that the discomfort and anguish of puberty can be miraculously solved with drugs and surgeries, sending many down the same devastating path to destruction.
Children and adolescents no more need trans role models than they do anorexic or bulimic role models. Every time we celebrate a celebrity coming out as trans, we sacrifice countless young people to the horror of this medical atrocity.

They were fine with all of this when only conservatives were the targets. I don't disagree but will add that what you describe is itself a social contagion. Herds of these women were indoctrinated into this delusion and patted each other on the back for it.

Now they are mostly older, bitter and resentful as fuck, and hate the world. But rather than focus their anger on the cause of their misery -- the toxic feminists who fed them this delusion -- they take their anger out on children, men, and happy women.

There is a similar pathology happening among men -- the incel class, etc -- but it's far more common in women.

No, but the elites favor it. They *want* social contagion, especially in girls. Social contagion in boys is often dangerous - it can make them fight - but in girls, it is more likely to be directed inwards. Valuable. Tear up the social fabric more thoroughly and more slowly, and it allows alpha women to remove their competition. If you want to destroy a culture, you do it by going after the women, not after the men - so long as you can convince men that you're not doing anything bad to their women (or restrain them from intervention).

If destruction is your aim for whatever reason (whether your ultimate ambitions can be realized or not is beside the point), going after women is a good way to achieve it because they are the cultural mediators. If you can successfully disrupt that while not precipitating the wrath of the men, you can take down the culture.

I will point it out like I always do, because it may be important depending on how this war proceeds.

Trangender social contagion is demonstrably real. This inconvenient fact negates the entire philosophical and legal basis for the entire gay rights movement. "Social contagion" - and "grooming," for that matter - is incompatible with the "born this way" thesis that underpins the entire legal construct.

Outside of "born this way," there is no reason to accommodate homosexual deviation in law. Marriage, benefits, policies, etc. - the predicate is invalid for *all* of it. The "born this way" thesis was never demonstrated, but it has now been unquestionably demonstrated as invalid (or at very least, incomplete). Choice enters into it, and so the legal basis for the entire movement is null.

If they had, they would have been relieved as gatekeepers. Some cultures - primarily Islam - do that to some degree. This is playing out here, but we're not very far along that track and women have enormous cultural power. There is an active attempt to relieve them of that status - the tranny stuff comes immediately to mind - but if they fight it, that effort will die. Women still hold that power and are still the gatekeepers, at least for now.

That's one of the reasons that women *must* fight this one for themselves. They're the only ones with the power to do so, absent major disaster that results in a dramatic cultural shift in very short order.

But I agree that a substantial percentage is by choice -- whether social contagion, convenience, curiosity, social status, lack of better options, etc. The recent opportunistic trend of under-30 women to be almost all "bisexual" is strong evidence of this.

A necessary social evolution for civilization, but certainly not one that women come up with organically. We have observed both in primitive tribes and devolving modern societies that women will opt for a sort of serial monogamy, and the men, due to ambiguity of offspring are not particularly motivated to work.

True story: Once upon a time I was an engineering manager. Someone from marketing came to me to pitch an idea. Doesn't matter what it was. What matters is that it demonstrated that the marketing drone had absolutely no concept of the product, the laws surrounding the product, or the behaviors of people testing the product. I told them that their idea was "the stupidest thing I've ever heard."

Okay, that was impolitic but a month later, after several meetings in which marketing would continually tell me that they had an idea - that same original idea - which would solve several unrelated issues, it was determined that I had no future in management and was moved back into a pure engineering role. Fast forward 14 years... marketing's idea has never been implemented.

That particular aspect does not apply today. We engineered it away courtesy of wealth transfers. Virtually all of the welfare programs are for mothers. There is no need for a provider-man or a protector-man. A treasury check (or a family law court) and a cop have replaced them. Is a woman better off if she chooses to go down the traditional road? Yes, definitely. But the risks of not going down that road - or selecting poorly and so failing to go down that road - are have been reduced to nearly zero. There is some interesting statistical data available. As an example my daughter birthed twin boys. The original fertilization occurred in the boy who would later be right handed. The split egg is left handed and was born with a lower birth weight by quite a few ounces. Statistically his odds of being gay are enormously higher then his right handed brother.

Was some precedence given in the womb to the original egg? What would be the tip off? Was the right handed embryo the first to implant? Like you, I believe it what goes on in the uterus is what decides gay or not.

Many years ago something similar happened with me; turns out that it was a virus that had corrupted the boot sector of the hard drive.

Was able to procure (from work) an MS-DOS boot floppy disc with a virus scanner & cleaner on it -- and that did the trick.

211 On the Buick dealers saying "thanks, but no thanks" to the EVs, there's going to be a lot of that coming up. We have a "dealer strip" here, the service road that runs by the interstate. Six months ago their lots were wide open spaces. Now, they are jam packed with inventory. I would venture a guess a heavy percentage of EVs, coupled with other stuff the price of which would take your breath away.
